Best Buy refusing to price match

Cmoore58

CAGiversary!
Is it common for best buy to refuse to price match if the store isn't local? I brought a CC ad to best buy to get 2 of the new GH hits for 14.99 and they refused saying since its not local its their progative if they will or not.

we don't have one here in iowa, I guess the thing that was aggrivating is that they did it for the CC clearance and dropped a game 20 bucks and won't do it for 5! ah well thanks guys!

If you have proof that they did it in the past, bring in that proof and ask they why they'd do it in one case and not another. Their policy isn't done on their whims of when they want to do it and when they don't.

Yea Best Buy never pricematches with me, try CC they always pricematch with me you just need to be friendly and casual.

The rule for CC, which is probably the same for BB, is that the store you are matching must be within 50 miles.

i dunno if that is true for BB...i once was trying to pricematch something at BB that was in the CC ad...i knew that the CC across the street didn't have it in stock, but the CC 10 miles away did...they didn't care and said it had to be in stock at the closest one in order for me to receive a pricematch

BB never game me any problems with PMing. There's about 5-6 BBs, 3-4 CCs, and 3-4 Fry's in my area; it's PMing heaven! About 70% of the time, calls are made to verify price, 20% of the time, they'll just check the Web or grab a competitor's ad, and less than 10% of the time, they will just go ahead and take my word for it.

wanna make a bet on that statement? My girlfreind works at bestbuy and they tell her to lie to customers to avoid pricematchs and lie to customers to get PPP (personal protection plans) and mag subscrips.

i even remember reading over on bestbuysux.org that one of cashiers actually would lie that a credit card transaction didnt go threw when it did, so the customer would swipe their credit card a second time so they could get the magazine subscriptions verified without customers knowledge.

Since this thread is about pricematching at BB, a quick question. Do they offer the extra 10% on top of matching the price?

nope.

They pricematch so you won't spend your money elsewhere, and they know you aren't driving 3 hours to save 10 bucks, so they won't do it.

My BB would pricematch, but they don't accept the $5 off McD coupon (edit: in addition to a pricematch) if a manager is nearby.

CC didn't take the BB $5 off coupon today because the new $14.99 Greatest Hits games are "on clearance". I didn't try to argue the fine point between a clearance game or a game on sale.

So, YMMV.

I've encountered this same thing at BB. Even if you have 10 of the comp's stores within a few miles, the closest one is the one they call for stock. Makes sense for them as they can have just one CC, Target, etc etc store they call to verify stock and be done with it. I've only had a store actually call to verify stock once or twice in all the PMs I've done - and I've PMed a few outrageously obvious price mistakes. If you hit that snag just go back later if the deal is juicy enough.

sanjuro is correct on the extra 10% off. Utterly ridiculous IMO, but that's their policy.

I've gotten BB to combine coupons with a PM successfully one time out of 4 or so times I've tried. In my experience you have to get very lucky with the person who helps you. Often I don't even bother asking.

in reference to the poster wanting to know about if BB does the 10% as well, They are supposed to, but it all depends on who you get. I was told know once because I was using a coupon ad from ebgames for the ratched clank UYA mistake for 2 for 30.....said no on the extra 10%...(no big whoop, already making out like a bandit) and then yesterday I did get it, matching circuit citys 3/20 dvds....got patriot games/club dread/swordfish for like 18 and change. they matched it and on each one gave me 10% of the dif.......no call, no nothing. Betteer chance if they are busy, or near end of day, if they close at 10 go at 930-940.......they dont want to be bothered most of the time, let it work for you.
I have gotten price matched there more often than not, although circuit city is more uniform about it.....
