I just caled Best Buy about We Love Katamari and asked them when they would be selling it, and I mentioned that Target broke the release date, and the sales rep said they don't use the release dates, they just put games out as soon as they get them.

This is the Lynchburg, Virginia Best Buy

Not really a deal, but it's interesting.

That's pretty much how all stores work, except for big name releases... the store I work at got in Madden 2006 a few days earlier but it was plastered with "DO NOT SELL BEFORE THIS DATE" signs.

Microsoft is also very strict about release dates on their big name games.

Most games come in a box that says "rush to floor immediately" so yea, if it happens to come early, it goes out on the floor.

That's interesting. It was a bit unfair that my Target didn't have Katamari when everyone was blabbering about it. I'll just wait to pick up my preorder on Wednesday.

There are very few video games that actually have hard release dates like cd's and dvd's do, therefore they do get placed on the shelf as soon as they come in. The only ones that have hard release dates are big name games to the magnitude of Madden of GTA, or Disney games.

They told me the exact opposite about Burnout Legends this week. I went in on the 14th, the game shipped on the 13th, and their goon gave me BS that their "floor date" was the 15th and it couldn't be sold until then or Best Buy would be sued for millions. Exactly what he said too, millions, I was like please give me a fucking break. I tried to tell him other stores already have it out but he stuck to his guns. Whatever, I just went across the street to Target and picked it up there with my employee discount which means I would have paid the same as Best Buy anyway.
