Get $20 trade-in Credit when you trade 4 or more games (Current gen games only (no PS2) and $5 minimum for each game). Offer valid 10/2/11 - 10/08/11**** This promo was cancelled early due to technical issues. There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracked on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone/Android app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

How come the GOTY/complete version doesn't show up in the estimator?
Best Buy doesn't differentiate between the vanilla and GOTY/complete versions of a game. This is largely a cover-all policy due to the fact that many GOTY editions include the game's DLC and bonus content as one-time use codes; meaning that the game has no extra value on the 2nd hand market. So no extra TIV for your GOTY games. The plus side is that GOTY and vanilla versions sell at the same price, so if the DLC is located on disc and you find a GOTY version in-store it will be the same price as the vanilla one.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but updates can and do happen at any time. Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Lately some people have been told the policy is 1 game per system (i.e. you could trade in 1 copy of a game for Xbox, 1 for PS3 and 1 for Wii), and have been actively turned down when trading in more than one copy. Whether this is actually something they are banning for or if it is just what employees are being told to follow to limit multiples is unknown. Trade multiples at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually. Yes, this also applies to DS, 3DS, PSP, etc. If you have the manual and artwork you should trade it in though anyway to improve the quality of the selection for people who may want to buy the game in the future (you can't know if the game will be complete when you buy online for example).

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only. Employees have gotten much better about knowing this policy though.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, and some stores apparently accept consoles as well. Call ahead before bringing it in. That said, the TIV for most hardware is lower than competitors.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or even city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll need a (United States) state issued ID or passport.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return. You might even be flat out denied by the employee or manager despite the official rule.

Remember, all trades are technically at the discretion of Best Buy and they can refuse to accept a game for whatever reason they want (outside of you being black, woman, Jewish, etc.).

There's only one flaw with that situation though. They reduced the number of dupes you can trade in per year to ONE per title per system now. So you'd have to choose something else or risk your girl(or your girls' ID rather) getting banned from BB trading too.:whistle2:#
Why would you go and do that? You better keep it.....but to be serious, not sure. I really only go by what the site says cause if you bring something not listed, probably not listed in their system. And if it's not in their system, they will only give you a dollar. Not worth taking with me just to find out.
I won it at a tournament, and just don't have the time to commit to it. Great game, though.

Really don't know why it's not on the site.

Their policy online still has the text for a 3 duplicate limit. If you were banned later and given trading duplicates as the reason, couldn't you show them this and argue? I haven't traded duplicates since Black Friday season, but this just strikes me as odd.

True. But both of my local stores know the limit is now one per title per system. So even if I brought in 3 of a game I'd be stopped from trading the other two.

that sucks. i didnt know the 1pertitlepersystem was already in place.
i was gonna flip mw3 back for 38.xx and buy again pm'ing tru for 30. i guess its only like $5 and some rz points but still. oh well, not worth getting banned again as i just traded mw3 last week for 40 and rebought for 35 @ amazon. this is her copy not mine, lol

You are making a big assumption, that anyone you talk to will care/even talk to you about the issue.

When I got banned they wouldn't even look up my account info to tell me why. Told me that they "weren't doing that," and, "you must of broken the rules." To which I replied, "what rule or rules did I break?" They responded, "one of them."

They then asked me if they could help me with anything else.

I just traded in Modern Warfare 3, Skyrim and Bulletstorm three times each last week without any questions during their B2G1 sale. Hopefully this just YMMV and not company wide.

You're banned now.

I'm probably banned.

I traded in 3x MW3 (PS3) last week, the week before I traded in 3x MW3 (360)

Any way to check without actually going to the store and attempting to make a trade.

nope, only way is to go in there and try a trade in.

Okay i was waiting for my trades to go through that my wife did for me so i can post my flip list; its mostly just 1:1 with the 50% and a little bit extra if you can do the 60%. When i traded in a couple i made 10 bucks extra and when i traded a longer pile i made 20 extra. If you do the entire list you should be able to pull off at least 30 - 50 extra. And by the way its GS to BB. Meaning you buy at GameStop and trade to Best Buy in case you didn't know.

haha yea, I went to the Union City. I actually never knew if I was banned or not because I haven't traded in for 3 or more months now. I decided to try last week but their system was down. Finally worked this morning and found out I was banned. Jason was helping me. I was really excited when he says the total (wasn't much) and then boom ban screen. lol, there's no by-pass option either.

Planning to get a good 130 by trading in ME3, OoT 3DS, Infamous 2 and a few other small games.

Going to miss ME3, but I'll just watch the new ending video when they release it this summer via YouTube

oh damn. wait so there's no by pass or override option anymore? did you get to see what the screen showed when your ban popped up?
You are making a big assumption, that anyone you talk to will care/even talk to you about the issue.

When I got banned they wouldn't even look up my account info to tell me why. Told me that they "weren't doing that," and, "you must of broken the rules." To which I replied, "what rule or rules did I break?" They responded, "one of them."

They then asked me if they could help me with anything else.
Eh, guess that's to be expected. I'll just try to remember what I've already traded in then. With no more BB daily deals, flips aren't that common anymore anyway.

 My Gamestop ban now has a twin brother. I got the 'banned' pop up today when I tried dumping my copy of Call Of Juarez: The Cartel by pre-ordering Darksiders II.

They even printed up the screen for me.

I wonder what did it though. Was it my triple trade of :360:Dead Island after just buying them late last month or a cumulative effect of all of the dupes I've done for almost a year now.

Oh well.

I used up a good chunk of my remaining credit today to buy :ps3:Resistance 3, :ps3:Skyrim and :ps3:Uncharted 3 from the pre-owned section using coupons for each one in seperate transactions. I also pre-ordered Prototype 2 to get the free @Gamer magazine, which I promptly used the $10 off $29.99 or higher coupon from on Skyrim pre-owned.

Now I just have to go back to my closest store and cancel any remaining pre-orders I still have outstanding(Uncharted 3, LOTR: WITN, etc) and spend that credit. Then I'm done with my near weekly trips to BB unless it's some insane deal like $5/$10 games again.;)

By the way, if you try getting the "free" Prototype 2 posted scanned in conjunction with the pre-order and the @Gamer magazine it zeroes out the mag n makes the poster $50.

Yea, it says this person is blah blah blah. And the only available option is Cancel the Transaction.

Actually the only available options are cancel or print that page.

If I had a camera I'd gladly snap a pic of the screen for the lulz. Mind ya, at least with BB I got proof of my trade ban. At GS all I got was told verbally that I was banned. I tried getting the DM to print up the memo that supposedly came down from corporate about the full ban, but he was having none of that.

At least I can still buy shit from BB if I want to cuz it's not a full on ban like at GS. The GS ban is a complete ban from all their stores.:whistle2:s That's the thing that confuses me about the GS ban though. The way the DM talked to me the last time I went into his one store he basically accused me of 'gaming the system'(love that term n chuckled every time I heard it used in regards to me).

Basically 'gaming the system' to them includes trading in 40 games towards one promo while trading in a 40gb PS3 towards another promo. To them it's an either/or situation and you couldn't do both trades on the same day or at the same store. He also almost outright accused me of pulling a switcheroo when the Dual Shock 3 was first released with a SixAxis controller, saying that his people only sold them sealed from day one. Another 'issue' with me was that he said I made and cancelled pre-orders, often after getting a bonus bump in trade credit from doing them. While that may have been true to some extent, I suppose customers are not allowed to change their minds EVER if they made a pre-order as part of a promo?

Standing there in his office talking to him that day had me fuming because everything he accused me of doing "wrong" as a customer was total bullshit, especially almost outright accusing me of stealing a Dual Shock 3. Not to mention he was being condescending and arrogant to me the whole time. I find it funniest that for the longest time his stores had NO problem taking my shit I was trading them and reselling it to other people. If I was such a problem customer all along, why wait so long to ban me? The ban from there proves one thing to me though. It's that GS loves the customers they can practice their predatory practices on, but if you're even a half smart customer you're persona non grata there quickly.

Looking at some of my games I could trade in and just noticed that PSP games are now hitting the 25cent area. Not sure if anybody has mentioned that before. I blame Vita!

Unless they have something in their trade-in terms about any limits with the program that is handily available to customers (which is highly unlikely) I'd go above the DM if you wanted to give them a big "fuck you."

I originally intended to. But according to this DM around here the order to ban me from the stores came from some 'vp'. Of course, when pressed for proof of it he wouldn't provide any such evidence, which leads me to believe it was simply his own ban and not one from above at the corporate level. It likely has to do with the fact that I made and subsequently cancelled 3-6 pre-orders right at his home office store and did so to some of the people who kiss his ass the most.

Compared to the other stores(where most of his employees think he's a toolbag) these guys at that store have been there forever and follow his edicts to the letter.

I think "all trades subject to manager approval" covers that.
I think "all trades subject to manager approval" covers that.
That's the thing though. I HAD the managers' approval at my closest store when I was doing my mega trades of HDMI cables and multiples of some games I got on clearance/sale(the last couple Hollywood Video $5 sales were great for me) or with those BB free Gamer's Club coupons when they ended up free.

Mind ya, I was restricted to 5 HDMI cables a day and only if I brought in a receipt to show where I got them from every time I went to trade in, but it worked pretty well for me. Same thing with the games actually. They'd take multiples of multiples as long as I had a receipt showing where I got them from.

But it was a nice lil system that worked well for quite a while for me. Not to mention I kept doing pre-orders and keeping them with the closest store that was allowing me to do these trades.

So I felt I was 'safe' from scrutiny since I did have the approval that mega trades typically take.

Well at least you got your moneys worth? How long before were you doing this before you were banned?

Quite a while with the dupes from the BB coupons and the clearance/sale games. But only around a month or so for the HDMI cables before it caught up to me.

I'm sure they were fine getting all those games to resell, but once they were sitting on a mountain of HDMI cables they were like "this shit has to stop! ban that guy!"

That's the thing though. I had not seen one single HDMI cable that I traded in at any of their stores after they took them in.

So either they were shipping them out or selling them pretty quick, since they're $19.99 at GS as opposed to places like BB where they want $80 for one new in the box.

HDMI cable trade..... Do explain.....
HDMI cable trade..... Do explain.....
They're probably not even taking them by now(cuz a lot of people were trading them en masse anytime they did game trades;)), but GS used to give as much as $7 for any random HDMI cable. By the time I hopped on that gravy train it was down to $4-5. After the 10% bump for EDGE/PUR, you were getting almost $4.40-$5.50 for something you could easily buy in bulk for $.50-$1 each.;)

Damn, missed that boat ...
Mmmm. I will have to see if my Best Buy takes cables..... Would be sweet if they did.
Amazon took some of my leftovers a while ago, but when other CAG's who bought the same bundle of 50 cables tried their luck they got denied. I think they gave me $3-4 a cable.:whistle2:#

I'm not entirely sure, but I think I remember someone trading in a cable for $4 when I was in a Gamestop a few weeks ago. So it could still be viable
Anyone trade Witcher 2 to Best Buy yet? I checked the look up estimator but it was not coming up.
I'm fairly certain I put this in the OP, but if it isn't in the estimator than they don't have a price for it yet. They may offer you a buck.

Was Witcher 2 not to your liking or are you just trading it now and planning on buying it later when it's cheaper?

Just curious.
