Get $20 trade-in Credit when you trade 4 or more games (Current gen games only (no PS2) and $5 minimum for each game). Offer valid 10/2/11 - 10/08/11**** This promo was cancelled early due to technical issues. There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracked on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone/Android app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

How come the GOTY/complete version doesn't show up in the estimator?
Best Buy doesn't differentiate between the vanilla and GOTY/complete versions of a game. This is largely a cover-all policy due to the fact that many GOTY editions include the game's DLC and bonus content as one-time use codes; meaning that the game has no extra value on the 2nd hand market. So no extra TIV for your GOTY games. The plus side is that GOTY and vanilla versions sell at the same price, so if the DLC is located on disc and you find a GOTY version in-store it will be the same price as the vanilla one.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but updates can and do happen at any time. Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Lately some people have been told the policy is 1 game per system (i.e. you could trade in 1 copy of a game for Xbox, 1 for PS3 and 1 for Wii), and have been actively turned down when trading in more than one copy. Whether this is actually something they are banning for or if it is just what employees are being told to follow to limit multiples is unknown. Trade multiples at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually. Yes, this also applies to DS, 3DS, PSP, etc. If you have the manual and artwork you should trade it in though anyway to improve the quality of the selection for people who may want to buy the game in the future (you can't know if the game will be complete when you buy online for example).

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only. Employees have gotten much better about knowing this policy though.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, and some stores apparently accept consoles as well. Call ahead before bringing it in. That said, the TIV for most hardware is lower than competitors.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or even city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll need a (United States) state issued ID or passport.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return. You might even be flat out denied by the employee or manager despite the official rule.

Remember, all trades are technically at the discretion of Best Buy and they can refuse to accept a game for whatever reason they want (outside of you being black, woman, Jewish, etc.).

yeah whenever i go in they all complain about only 6 workers in all departments not counting cs/gs/registers. they just direct me over to cs now to do tradeins otherwise i wait like 20 minutes. also my grrl still isnt banned, flipped 1 mk and flipped lollipop away too. guess we all take a flip break for a bit now...
I can also add this tidbit. There was no one scheduled in gaming today, even though the gaming manager was working in the dept. I asked yesterday and an employee checked because I was going to give one of the associates my preorder instead of the manager. So they may have started splitting it up.
Oh man that stinks

While I can't verify, my usual gaming supervisor today had his "gaming supervisor" nametag replaced with a generic one and he was training other department's folks on how to do trade-ins.

Did their policy change? guy at bestbuy said I could just trade in 1 copy per person per year. I had 3 copies of Mortal Kombat Vita and almost asked random people there if they could trade in the game for me real quick. Decided it wasn't worth it.

If there's a 30-50% promo that doesn't require a pre-order deposit coming up after this 100% one, then I might still trade in Inversion. As it stands I know I'm not gonna be able to swing by there tonight since I'm not done with the game.

Albeit if I hadn't fallen asleep the one night I probably would've been done with it by now. Oh well. Either way, if it's a 50% promo without PO required then I'll still trade that in since that's still a $16 trade as of now. So it comes out to a $5.19 rental for about two weeks as opposed to a $.19 rental if I dumped it there today.

It seems to vary by the district apparently. In this district it's supposedly down to one per title per platform per year. But according to Mariel at the BB forums it's still 3 per title. So apparently managers have some leeway to make up their own limits.

Went into the Arden store to trade in, they said the system went down yesterday and it turns out it was still fucked. Had to then go all the way to Natomas, but it was worth it. Wish I had more, but I ended up getting $58 towards a new headset.

I've never done a trade-in at Best Buy till today. It was like pulling teeth.

First off nobody was working back at games (no surprise) so they told me to go do it at customer service. Over there they had no idea what the 100% trade in even was, so they had to look it up. After 25 mins of herping their derps they came to the conclusion that it was only applicable for "Hot Titles". So I had to look at their own computers and point it out on their own website. They seemed quite insistent that I was wrong so they got a manager who came over and pointed at the same thing I did and said "all you do is double the trade in".

So i walked out with about $40 for 5 old games and a pain in my arse.

So it comes out to a $5.19 rental for about two weeks as opposed to a $.19 rental if I dumped it there today.

It seems to vary by the district apparently. In this district it's supposedly down to one per title per platform per year. But according to Mariel at the BB forums it's still 3 per title. So apparently managers have some leeway to make up their own limits.
no preorder necessary with 50% trade in, i have the ad

50% promo is kinda weak for sub $10 base games which is what i mostly have now. gonna lay off trade ins for a while and enjoy some sonic genesis collection w/ mk fight stick.
While I can't verify, my usual gaming supervisor today had his "gaming supervisor" nametag replaced with a generic one and he was training other department's folks on how to do trade-ins.
This jarred something else in my memory. The gaming manager called over a mobile rep to do my trade in, eventhough he hadn't done one before.

Traded in these about an hour ago:

(Vita) Mortal Kombat (bought for $9.99 at GS, traded for $27.30 with GCU)
(Vita) Army Corps of Hell (bought for $14.57 at GS, traded for $23.10 with GCU)

Had GS credit to burn so cost me $5 out of pocket for $50.40 worth of Best Buy (er, Amazon ;)) credit. Winning.

It would explain why I was not able to get anyone in gaming yesterday to do a trade in and had to bug a TV/stereo guy to help me get someone and about after 10 minutes one of the other tv/stereo guys just decided to do it. I really hope they train other employees or at least keep one or two guys there during the day for trade ins as I have had to do two trade in this past month at the geek squad counter and it was painfully slow.

Got shut down BIG TIME when I tried to trade in 2 MK Vitas. I was told that 3 copies per year shit, is gone and NOW its 1 copy per year per console. WTF???? Guess Ill just return my 2nd copy back to GS and get my money back.

Wow that sucks. I had no problem walking in today with 2 MK vitas and walking out with $54.60

Yeah it does, but the store is really cool about pm'ing( Atleast they were when I did it a couple of months ago, so who the fuck knows now?) Its no biggie honestly. I got the hangover 2 on blu ray, and a $5 batman dvd for my little bro and still have $8 leftover, which will make KOA only $2 nd some change.

The one title per console seems to be true according to what I've heard from a gaming employee at the Best Buy I frequent. He claims that it changed at the begining of the year but I honestly don't know what to think as the reply to IAmTheCheapestGamer's post on the Best Buy "Unboxed" forum contradicts this. I've asked about the 50 per year and he could not confirm as he hadn't heard anything mentioned about that.

That sucks man, sorry to hear.Thats one thing good i can say about my BB,they always have somebody in the game section to help with trade ins, hell one time even the store manager did it for me.But thats ridiculous having to wait that long at customer service.Sounds like you made out ok,i traded in 8 mostly older games and also got $40 today.
Hope BB extended 100% trade-in last till next week ;)
I think I saw someone say on here that's its gonna be a 50% trade in bonus.

This is a prime example of why I hate trading in games at BB. Today I was going to trade in some games, but I figured it would not be worth my time or effort since the games I wanted to trade in were old and would have only traded in for $7-$8 total.

I was told that same lame story at one BB untill I pointed out the FAQ on the web page:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/null/null/pcmcat257100050022.c?id=pcmcat257100050022&h=504

Question #12 The Limit is 3 per title per platform.

The FAQ can be found from the BB Home Page, at the bottom: PRODUCT SUPPORT/Trade in Center/Additional Resources/Frequently Asked Questions

anyone know what BB does with a trade in after its done? do they ship it off ? just box it up? or do they hang on to it for a few days? any info would be great

Gaming guys at my store have been enforcing a one copy per console per trade limit and say that it's a directive from on high. But they also say that the three per console per year is still in place. Simple solution was to wait a few days and take my dupes back.

I was able to flip most of my GS credit back to BB by trading in Mortal Kombat Vita and Ninja Gaiden 3 (PS3 & Xbox 360). The irony was MK Vita dropping to $10 today and I bought it again today. This trade in was great for me. It helped with the pain of buying that NG3 CE on the day it was released. :applause:

Well I just got out of work and I wasnt thinking straight. Im just gonna leave it alone, ONLY this time. Guy was scared he was going to get fired if he let me trade in both the copies of MK that I had. I wanted to laugh at him, but it would of been an asshole thing to do.

Not sure how long they hold onto the trade-ins though if they require a certain quota before shipping items off for repackaging.

ok thanks, I traded my MK vita in tonight, and apparently it keeps part of the save data tied to the cart, because after I was able to get my hands on a new copy later on, all my progress was gone

that faq was for the old policy, though. i had no problems with any of my best buys until today. i was rejected the same as everyone else today so i had to go to a second best buy to trade in my second copy. their policy suddenly changed within the last day or so. until now, they have been chill with my multiples. i've never pushed the envelope and only traded 2 per system at most. i was never rejected until today.

I had two duplicate ds games today and had no problems whatsoever. In fact I asked her if that was ok and she said sure. When I comes to trade ins my Bb has it shit down. Trade about 20 games today and was in and out in under 15 minutes and it took longer since I preordered borderlands and blops 2. I think her name was Ashley and she seemed to be a gamer herself. She also handled my 1st trade in at the start of the promo and I think we got through with my 60 games trades in under a half an hour and that was mostly because another guy started and he was slower, when she took over she was quick and the only that slowed her up was stopped to find the hundred sheets plus of paper that she needed to print off the pawn slip.

i wonder what went wrong with my two stores. maybe and overzealous district manager is trying to ruin the trade-ins here. in any case, it will be very tough for me to trade in 2 copies per system on the same day for now on.

I was able to trade in 3 vita copies of MK along with 2 other games. The guy doing the trade mentioned the 1 per console limit but I mentioned the limit of 3 per console per year on the website. He said the system probably hasn't updated yet and said he would try and do all 3. The system didn't bring up any 1 copy limit flags so he ran the trade through. Spent just about $50 at GS and ended up with $113.

Gonna hate to see this promo go: I was late to the party, but still managed to get about $650 in store credit over the last 2 days. I hope they at least inflate the values a little to compensate...:(

Man I am an amateur. I only got about $120, but I am also only trading 1 per title.

Well I got in on it the last day, Thanks for the heads up on the MK Vita was able to trade in 3 copies plus older titles and such got about $650 so I finally got me an ipad for school, so I can stop lugging the laptop around, Would've gotten more alot but I took advantage of a gamestop promo a few months back,
50% bonus is up on the website, so it is confirmed. "When you trade any game" I guess no preorder is needed.
Hmmm, I wonder if any of the values that were lowered for the 100% promo will get bumped up.

I think there is going to be an adjustment. They updated the hot titles list pic but not the values. So I assume once they load in the updated values, it'll be recalculated. They would have just updated the values in hot titles section if they weren't going to adjust.

*edit*
I'm not expecting much. Maybe $3-4 on the higher value games to make them $30 after promo.

Ding, ding, ding.

New TIV's are live. $32 tops w/ Unlocked. Mid range stuff is probably going to suck hard compared to the 100% but newer stuff is more or less the same. MW3 is falling.

Yeah if u search for something like COD MW3 it still shows up as 16, but under the Hot Titles beside the 50% then the list shows as 18.

Yeah I traded 66 unique games in June for a total of $769.65. In the end those 66 games cost me $12.11. I had some bad trades from games before my CAG days. Removing those 6 games meant I have 60 games for $724.50 with a profit of $161. It was a good month.:D

This sale was so good. I got at LEAST $200 in credit. Today was the best. I traded in $90 worth of games and then got the PS Move bundle price matched down to $70...turned right around and traded in the games (Deadmund and Sports Champions) for $16, and then got a navigator controller price matched off Amazon for $22.

Earlier this month I walked out with $130 of credit.

From what I've seen, only hot titles updated. The rest stayed the same, could be legit but it's a big loss on the older titles I was trying to playthrough.

One thing I gotta mention about the trade in system is that even when they lowered the limit to 3 per title per console per year the system would allow copies over that amount, whether they were in the same transaction or not as I went over the limit myself at least twice on a couple of games.

So if you're expecting the system to bring up a warning about the current limits for multiples I just have to say not to rely so heavily on the system to block you and keep track of what you've traded in yourself.
