Get $20 trade-in Credit when you trade 4 or more games (Current gen games only (no PS2) and $5 minimum for each game). Offer valid 10/2/11 - 10/08/11**** This promo was cancelled early due to technical issues. There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracked on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone/Android app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

How come the GOTY/complete version doesn't show up in the estimator?
Best Buy doesn't differentiate between the vanilla and GOTY/complete versions of a game. This is largely a cover-all policy due to the fact that many GOTY editions include the game's DLC and bonus content as one-time use codes; meaning that the game has no extra value on the 2nd hand market. So no extra TIV for your GOTY games. The plus side is that GOTY and vanilla versions sell at the same price, so if the DLC is located on disc and you find a GOTY version in-store it will be the same price as the vanilla one.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but updates can and do happen at any time. Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Lately some people have been told the policy is 1 game per system (i.e. you could trade in 1 copy of a game for Xbox, 1 for PS3 and 1 for Wii), and have been actively turned down when trading in more than one copy. Whether this is actually something they are banning for or if it is just what employees are being told to follow to limit multiples is unknown. Trade multiples at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually. Yes, this also applies to DS, 3DS, PSP, etc. If you have the manual and artwork you should trade it in though anyway to improve the quality of the selection for people who may want to buy the game in the future (you can't know if the game will be complete when you buy online for example).

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only. Employees have gotten much better about knowing this policy though.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, and some stores apparently accept consoles as well. Call ahead before bringing it in. That said, the TIV for most hardware is lower than competitors.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or even city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll need a (United States) state issued ID or passport.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return. You might even be flat out denied by the employee or manager despite the official rule.

Remember, all trades are technically at the discretion of Best Buy and they can refuse to accept a game for whatever reason they want (outside of you being black, woman, Jewish, etc.).
Someone confirmed in the Gamestop TIV thread that the B2G1 coupon you get from renewing your PUR membership stacks with the MW3 sale price:

...Although that advice isn't as profitable as the BBY trade-in route. ;)
Thanks, didn't see the confirmation. Time to go into GS and then over to BB.

Small flip if you can find it. Target has clearanced MLB the Show 11 and its selling it for $9.98, trades in with bonus and unlocked to Best Buy for $16.
Damn GBA you hit it big getting your PS3 bundle cancelled with your RZ cert award. Wow.
I got close to $300 in eGift Cards from items that went to backorder status and were eventually cancelled during their crazy sale. IIRC a major article was published about consumers being outraged that Best Buy was cancelling so many orders close to the winter holidays so they (Best Buy) ended up giving out credit in the value of the orders that were cancelled which was great for me. I've had them cancel orders before due to a price mistake or stock issue and in return give out a $10 eGift Card.

For what it's worth, BF3 actually only dropped from $22 to $20 (not $25). And you can add Skyward Sword to that list as well. It dropped from $22 to $18. I only know because I checked the values of the TRU promo games...
I haven't been allowed to log into my best buy account for over a week now online. I know I'm entering all my info correctly yet it still won't work..any chance this happens once you've been banned?
I don't think so, I'm banned but still have full access to my account/reward zone and my GCU perks.

Well I went over the trade in limit twice and has around 100 games traded in total. Also canceled about 6 pre orders. Probably all that.

Target buy 2 get 1 flip - Centipede: Infestation for 3 DS is $19.99, buy 2 get 1 free for $39.99 + tax. Best Buy based TIV is $11 with bonuses, $17.60. So $52.80 for about $42 out of pocket.
Ah I see. Wasn't aware there was a trade-in limit until now. Thanks for the heads-up.
Of course, welcome. No matter what the employees tell you the trade in limit is, I wouldn't recommend going over 3 copies of the same title for each system.
Dead Island for 360 could get abused. $8 used with coupon at BB and trades in for $16 at BB.
Actually $24 cause all games traded in this week gets 50% bonus. If you have GZ unlocked its another 10%.:whistle2:#

Have you guys tried this? I just got back from picking up dead island on both ps3 and 360 and it totally broke the system some how. i didnt even get my 10% for gcu but i got ps3 version for 9.99 and 360 version for 5.50(i used 2 $10 off preowned coupons). both games said 35 used but i knew it was actually cheaper. i bought the only 360 version at my store, but then i walked back in and traded them in for 48 total. with tax and everything it was 16.79->48. woot!

It has been stated before that 2 or more pre-owned games in the same transaction will only take the 10% off of one game. They still haven't fixed this. Do separate transactions.

I'd be wary of flipping on games like this. From one store to another is one thing ( gamestop to bbuy or vice versa). But buying from bestbuy and taking it to the same store or even others with deals/trade in values like this seem like a good way to get warned/banned from trade ins. I'm sure it depends on the store and employees but i don't know if I'd be willing to risk it.

I can confirm that the 50% is without preordering anything. Alot of titles took trade in hits. I traded in uncharted 3 for $20 this morning and fable 3 for $4 before bonus.

yeah im glad i flipped uncharted 3 last week. 37.50 instead of 32, but not that bad difference.
and yeah i think im gonna trade my grrls copy of mw3 for 40. same price i bought it for last fall. we just dont have time to play games together anymore...

Same. I just got back from a trade in 50% bonus plus 10% GCU.

Thanks to the Cags who pointed out the 1:1 GS to BB flips. Purchased 2 MW3(1 ps3 1 Xbox) & UMvC3 for 100.xx and traded to BB for 105.xx This was a good way to move credit. Purchased two $50 Amazon Cards. $100 closer to a tax free Vita.

I just got back from trying the 3 MW3 trade in flip at BBY and the guy at the gaming desk told me A) I could only trade in one copy of the game per day, meaning I would have to go three days in a row in order to do them all and B) that the GCU didn't stack with the %50 bonus. Did he just lie and make up stuff?

He lied on both counts. A) could be his and/or store's policy, but it's not BB's policy. B) Automatically in the system.

So can I go back in there with a printed copy of BBY's policy and have them do it? Or do the store's policy come first?

I don't think he lied, he is just flat out wrong!

YMMV. You can't MAKE them do anything.

dude lied to your face. lol is this the same guy who said gamer mags in the store are only for display? not very smart of u to buy 3 exact copies though. u should've done 2x360 1xps3 or vice versa, and then traded in 1 of each today -counts as being different- and then the other later/tomorrow. the promo lasts all week. but still, dude lied to you.

I didn't see it being a problem, I've done 3 of the same platform before at the same BBY with no problems. But yea, in the future might as well not risk it.

yeah 3 of the same platform is fine, its just 3 of the same platform at the same time is fishy. with 2 u can say 1 is a friends or u like to have an extra copy or whatever. w/3 u just look greedy, plus 3 of same game/platform is the max for the whole year, so it looks fishy to have the years max. amount in 1 trade-in.

Just got back from trading in BF3 and NCAA 12 and got $52.50 with the 50% trade-in bonus. The guy seemed surprised by the deal, but was like "sweet deal for you!"

Everyone was surprised I got 19.20 for Little Deviants. Not bad since I paid $20 at GS with the $10 coupon.
Really need to find a used RDR or Dead Island though.

Used Dead Island is on sale for 19.99. Was also surprised to get the X360 version for 5.50 + tax.

How the fuck did that garbage get you almost 20$ that is probibly the worst vita game right now

Whoa, maybe it's a good thing I was only able to find a single used RDR :)360:) to trade in to GS; it looks like there's a BBY I can access that has at least one copy of Dead Island used for each system, and I have two of the $10 off @Gamer coupons left...But do I look for two 360 copies, get them for $11 total + tax and trade them back to BBY for $51.20 total or buy a single 360 copy and trade that in while buying a PS3 copy for myself?

$11 -> $51.20 BBY credit vs. $11 -> $25.60 & Dead Island :)ps3:) for me...

Hmm... :whistle2:k

Of course, if the TIV tanks before Thursday, I won't have to think about it, will I?

Oh it's for sure gonna tank before Thursday unfortunately. BB does their regular TIV updates on Tues and Sat nights, and then steps in with manual TIV adjustments whenever special circumstances occur. Dead Island won't likely even make it to the Tues night adjustment and will probably get nuked early.

If you can get to those copies earlier though, you could always flip both back to BB and then pricematch Frys for a new PS3 copy of Dead Island for $19.99. If the TIVs hold, you'd essentially be paying $0.75 cents or so in tax for the upgrade from your used PS3 Dead Island to a new one. Better deal IMO then just keeping the used PS3 version...

Edit: Guess this only works if you have a Frys near you though. Forgot they were limited to the West Coast...

Hey guys
first post in CAG and hope this is a good one

Looks like BB matched Gamestop, and i wish i got on this since BB gift cards are more versatile and usually have more video game sales and other goods.

Saw this on their video game page, no expiration date, but some of the trade in values seem to be better and holding at the moment. Examples

skyrim 25 base
mwf3 25 base

some are worse than gamestop, but now you can look up both and make a better decision. Enjoy! and im glad to be part of the CAG community.

I was going to use my b2g1 coupon from gs to buy 3 mw3 and flip them back for 30$ profit but flipping them at bestbuy would acually give me more credit and and could use the credit to buy a 120$ visa card. Ohhhhh is it tempting

I was afraid you'd say that you expect the TIV to tank quickly. I think I have a good backup plan, though--I locked in a two-copy trade-in online at $16.00 each. It wouldn't be as much as if I traded them in-store, but if the TIV really does tank by Thursday, I could live with $11 -> $32.

Now I just have to hope that that store has two 360 copies...
Do they still give out VISA pre-paid or does anyone do something new?
As of a couple of months ago they still had them in the stores here in PA and they still went through without a hitch.
