Get $20 trade-in Credit when you trade 4 or more games (Current gen games only (no PS2) and $5 minimum for each game). Offer valid 10/2/11 - 10/08/11**** This promo was cancelled early due to technical issues. There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracked on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone/Android app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

How come the GOTY/complete version doesn't show up in the estimator?
Best Buy doesn't differentiate between the vanilla and GOTY/complete versions of a game. This is largely a cover-all policy due to the fact that many GOTY editions include the game's DLC and bonus content as one-time use codes; meaning that the game has no extra value on the 2nd hand market. So no extra TIV for your GOTY games. The plus side is that GOTY and vanilla versions sell at the same price, so if the DLC is located on disc and you find a GOTY version in-store it will be the same price as the vanilla one.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but updates can and do happen at any time. Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Lately some people have been told the policy is 1 game per system (i.e. you could trade in 1 copy of a game for Xbox, 1 for PS3 and 1 for Wii), and have been actively turned down when trading in more than one copy. Whether this is actually something they are banning for or if it is just what employees are being told to follow to limit multiples is unknown. Trade multiples at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually. Yes, this also applies to DS, 3DS, PSP, etc. If you have the manual and artwork you should trade it in though anyway to improve the quality of the selection for people who may want to buy the game in the future (you can't know if the game will be complete when you buy online for example).

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only. Employees have gotten much better about knowing this policy though.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, and some stores apparently accept consoles as well. Call ahead before bringing it in. That said, the TIV for most hardware is lower than competitors.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or even city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll need a (United States) state issued ID or passport.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return. You might even be flat out denied by the employee or manager despite the official rule.

Remember, all trades are technically at the discretion of Best Buy and they can refuse to accept a game for whatever reason they want (outside of you being black, woman, Jewish, etc.).

I would think it'd be in your trade history? Haven't checked mine, yet.. so, not sure if it IS in the gamer section of your account or if it exists.
Damn, the guy I was chatting up with said he heard about the 50 year trade-in limit so it's a good possibility that it is in effect. Although, it's super shitty that he doesn't know for sure. What kind of training/communication does BB have with their workers cause wow that's sad when the person working there don't even know.

X_x I'm pretty sure I'm going to hit that limit soonish...all different titles though (didn't even get a chance to trade in the 2nd Uncharted 3 either, ahahaha)...and I only traded like a a month ago. fuck it, I'll go out in a bang if I have too.
Wait there's now a 50 game trade in per year thing going on?

Well I got $102.5 total for AC:Bro, UC3, ME3, and Batman:AC. Bought AC:Bro again for about $7 with the B2G1 sale.

They had one copy of DR2:OTR new for $20 and a used copy for $18 but it did not have artwork. I sat there for awhile trying to decide and I guess my cheapness is greater than my OCD because I got the used copy. Saving $4 trumped having artwork for this game I guess.
Wait there's now a 50 game trade in per year thing going on?
I personally can't confirm it because my BB worker isn't for sure but a few other CAGers confirmed it with their store so I'm guessing it's a big likelihood.

Dumass employ couldnt get my 10% bonus, said the 50% bump was for being GCU. Im working on 4 hours of sleep so I wasnt in the mood to argue over $3.xx
I just took mine over to the gaming counter after buying them, unwrapped them right there. I know the gaming people so it wasn't a big deal, the knew that I had purchased it
I did the same thing, the guy was looked at me funny at first but after I had him check the TIV on the Disney Universe games he knew what was going on. I ended up walking out with around $125 after trading in 3 Disney Universe games 1xPer Console, Uncharted 3, Resistance Dual Pack, & Little Big Planet 2.
LOL I Know I know but the guy saw me pick them up to buy. So it really doesnt make a difference where I unwrap them and like I said I know all of the people who work in the gaming department as I'm in there all the time.
I am relatively new, so I'm a bit confused, wouldn't it be better to sell on eBay for cash than to be stuck with bby credit? What good is hundreds of bby credit? I converted about 90 GS to bby recently and already felt it burning (first time "flipping" for store credit). it would be quite a while before I can spend all of that credit since I seldom buy games priced 20+.
You can also buy Amazon Kindle cards (read Amazon Gift Card Credit) at BB.
You can also buy Amazon Kindle cards (read Amazon Gift Card Credit) at BB.
Aha that makes sense, thanks.

If you wanted a part time job you should have hook up with DudeImGodly, I can't believe he got away with half the stuff he did for as long as he did.

Ha I'm good now. Before I joined this site I had decent amount of spare money, no backlog, always bought what I wanted to play on Amazon, and some, despite not much, time to play games after work.

Now I have less spare money, growing backlog, and less time to play games already.

:applause:That's about right for a CAG. Maybe a little credit at GS & BBY if you do a little bit of flipping once in a while like I do.
Dumass employ couldnt get my 10% bonus, said the 50% bump was for being GCU. Im working on 4 hours of sleep so I wasnt in the mood to argue over $3.xx
I had this problem tonight as well. Without being rude, I was able to convince the CS rep to try a few things since it did work for me earlier in the week. What ended up working was he had to completely logout and reboot the trade-in site. Then it came up as it should.

Went in with 3x Disney Universe(1 per system) and an Uncharted 3 ($10 from Target) for a total of $89.60. Had around $40 stuck in for a net of about $50.
LOL I Know I know but the guy saw me pick them up to buy. So it really doesnt make a difference where I unwrap them and like I said I know all of the people who work in the gaming department as I'm in there all the time.
Buy at 1, trade at another. You're bold. Lmao

If this is a 1 day sale, I have less than 2 hours to decide if I want to get another. :whistle2:k

Managers bro. I pretty much owned that store.

So tomorrow I'm doing a trade with a guy for my sound system for a bunch of random assorted things of his that match value. Well some of the things are a few Xbox games including black ops, some mtx vs. game, and MLB and NBA 2k12.

Well I'm planning on trading in all of them while this promo is stil going on but the problem is..the sports games are in a dual pack that apparently just came out for $69.99. I know I won't get the same amount in credit by selling it, so should I just get 2 empty 360 cases and put each disc in one? Cause MLB fetches $20 base and NBA fetches $15 base. I'd assume the combo pack would fetch like $24 base and that's it...I mean, it's not even in their system yet!

You can trade them in disc only which I assume would work unless their is something that distinguishes them as being part of a dual pack on the disc

For anyone who wants a giggle, go to the BB video game trade in site and look at the top video game trade ins for all 3 platforms. :D

Yes, I'd separate them into 2 cases and trade them in that way.

:lol:I also noticed that :ps3:Duke Nukem Forever is a $4.80 value after 50% bonus and 10% GCU. So it's a $.20 rental(it's $4.99 at BB) minus any sales tax. Not bad.:)

It's 20 miles one way to another BBY and with gas being $4 bucks a gallon not even worth my time.
Thats the first time I've purchased something from BBY and flipped it back to them. They know I mainly bring in games I bought at yard sales and occasionally a few I've bought at Target.

Not making a lot, just mainly funding my gaming habit :D and they get their preorders

Jeez, why are they bothering, they have banned just about everyone and now this limit. They really are not in it to sell used games as how will they ever have stock. They originally had a plan to kill GS, I think they plan on doing it via Laughter !!

I decided to tally up my GCs to see how much credit I have, and it looks like I have ~$330 thanks to recent trade-ins.

I'm going to set aside ~$55 for picking up Max Payne 3 (I plan to use a $5 RZ cert. and I'll also be getting the $20 eGC as a result) and possibly $100 for two $50 Amazon GCs. I'll likely just hold on to the rest since you never know... ;)

i looked all around for amazon gift cards. i found itunes and visa and some facebook games, that was all. i feel weird asking them for some reason.

next to tablet accessories.

the 50 limit is really dumb and I'm sure they'll lift it as soon as they realize 1 per title per platform is good enough to curb abuse. They need to make the system reject it though instead of letting people trade in >1 and then ban them after the fact.

Well when the worker accidently added two copies of Uncharted 3 to my trade in instead of just one, the system didn't allow the trade in.

agreed. im seriously considering trading in my entire current gen collection for bb credit to pay for a cintiq tablet monitor for my freelance work, but with the 50/yr limit that idea is out of the question.

Yeah I traded 2 copies this week also. I am really starting to think this is an employee based situation here. There may be "rules" but are only enforced if the employee chooses to. I mean BBY cannot program their RZ site to accurately dole out RZ cert most of the time so I highly doubt they have set up a computer system to control game trades.

Wait was this in one or seperate transactions? It didn't go through in one transaction.

excellent! I just did my first ever trade in to BBY today:

Battlefield 3 (PS3) - $15.00
Killzone 3 (PS3) - $12.00
MVC3 (PS3) - $7.00
AC:B (xb360) - $10.00

$44 + $22 (50% bonus) = $66.00. Bought KZ3, MVC3, AC:B for $20 total from the B2G1 sale.

It's not a hard-limit, so the system will let you trade in multiples if the employee allows it. Theoretically, you could trade in 100 of the same title. The enforcement comes from the ban after the fact.

Also, we've been hearing the same information repeated by multiple sources/employees from multiple locations across the country (1 per title/console, 50 total games per year limits) so while I hope this isn't the case (and BB's actual posted policy doesn't reflect these new limits) I'm operating under the assumption that these new limits are accurate.

The numbers have to be coming from somewhere, and the fact that the same limits are repeated in varied/different locations makes it unlikely that they are just conjecture or some kind of made-up localized restrictions.

It's the same thing that happened last year with the peeps that went-over the 3 per title/console limit. The system let them trade in however many they wanted. They were just banned after the fact...

Yeah and apparently these rules came out of the new training that they had to do.

yeah. but then after that i was able to do trade ins just fine. did one on saturday and sunday.

i just traded in some games today in about 4 months. I asked the two video game reps if there was a gamers unlock (which i am) for an extra 10% more and stacking on top of the 50%. I was told I would only get gamers unlock to stack if I did a trade-in and preordering something. I asked if they can at least try to stack them, but they refuse to do anything about it. in the end I only got 50%...traded in bayonetta, skyrim, uncharted 3, SSFIV, and 3d DGH (all for ps3) and got $88.50 total. is there anything i can do? please help CAGs, if it is suppose to stack...I am losing out on almost 9 bucks

Its suppose to stack, says so on the bottom of this link. I'm not sure if there's anything you can do about it though since all trades are final.

So I went back and looked at my trade history and I have traded 132 games in the last 10 months to BBY. Not sure what the #s are for those who have been banned but I have never been given a hard time or even sniffed a ban so far. For those getting banned are you way above this amount?

I thought the 50% off expired. I guess I am trading in my copy of bf3 i bought today. I really want it for the pc but I wanted the online pass for the 360 to unlock the mass effect 3 content.

I decided to give em a call. I told them that according to their website (thanks to Gamer4life88 for the link) it was suppose to stack and I lost 10%. they told me to come back to the store. I just went in right before closing and Customer Service gave me a $9 gift card. :)

where did u go to look up ur trade history? rz account?
