Get $20 trade-in Credit when you trade 4 or more games (Current gen games only (no PS2) and $5 minimum for each game). Offer valid 10/2/11 - 10/08/11**** This promo was cancelled early due to technical issues. There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracked on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone/Android app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

How come the GOTY/complete version doesn't show up in the estimator?
Best Buy doesn't differentiate between the vanilla and GOTY/complete versions of a game. This is largely a cover-all policy due to the fact that many GOTY editions include the game's DLC and bonus content as one-time use codes; meaning that the game has no extra value on the 2nd hand market. So no extra TIV for your GOTY games. The plus side is that GOTY and vanilla versions sell at the same price, so if the DLC is located on disc and you find a GOTY version in-store it will be the same price as the vanilla one.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but updates can and do happen at any time. Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Lately some people have been told the policy is 1 game per system (i.e. you could trade in 1 copy of a game for Xbox, 1 for PS3 and 1 for Wii), and have been actively turned down when trading in more than one copy. Whether this is actually something they are banning for or if it is just what employees are being told to follow to limit multiples is unknown. Trade multiples at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually. Yes, this also applies to DS, 3DS, PSP, etc. If you have the manual and artwork you should trade it in though anyway to improve the quality of the selection for people who may want to buy the game in the future (you can't know if the game will be complete when you buy online for example).

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only. Employees have gotten much better about knowing this policy though.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, and some stores apparently accept consoles as well. Call ahead before bringing it in. That said, the TIV for most hardware is lower than competitors.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or even city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll need a (United States) state issued ID or passport.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return. You might even be flat out denied by the employee or manager despite the official rule.

Remember, all trades are technically at the discretion of Best Buy and they can refuse to accept a game for whatever reason they want (outside of you being black, woman, Jewish, etc.).
So I went back and looked at my trade history and I have traded 132 games in the last 10 months to BBY. Not sure what the #s are for those who have been banned but I have never been given a hard time or even sniffed a ban so far. For those getting banned are you way above this amount?
how do you find your trade history?

really? if thats the case then 2/3 or my trade ins are unaccounted for because I've been trading in games since they started the program last year but didn't get gcu until the end of february of this year. it'd be nice if there was a way to look up ur tradeins w/ ur id# or something.\

under ur point total theres a link that says points/purchases. click it and a list of your transactions will show up in chronological order. your trade in transactions will be labeled separately from your purchases. just checked mine, the fiscal yr started the first week of february... and i'm already pretty close to 50...sincerely hope the 50 limit isn't real, as it still isn't mentioned on the website.

It depends way more on how much of a dickhead the manager is.

No trades show up for me. Well that may be because I never gave them a RZ number when trading stuff in. I did give them my RZ number on Saturday so it probably hasn't come up as yet.

I'm pretty sure most of us that are banned (especially in the first few waves of bans) reached your 132 in a month or two.

I was typically doing trades of 50 games per transaction many times. When the trade program first started in store I got rid of 40-50 games. One of my last trades was 54 games(most of my backlog). I also did smaller trades of 5-10 games and some others with only 3-4.

But what I did a LOT of was dupes. I went to the old max of 3 copies of everything I was trading in MANY times.

All totaled since their program started I was probably around 150-170 games traded in.

So much talk of people being banned from trading, however I'm wondering how exactly you find out you are banned. Do they ban your reward zone? Can you not find out till you go to the counter to trade and it won't let the employee do it? How does it work?

Weird... When I look at my trade history, there's nothing prior to 3/10/12... Even though I've been trading games since the very beginning... And probably 300 games total... Haha. I guess my account is safe for now ;) Like, none of the BBV stuff from back when they had the KA issue are even on there - and that was some CRAZY amount of trades... And I used my GCU on them, because I got that way back last May or something...

yeah i was also wondering if you could still trade in with the same id but different reward zone account

Yep... They get all the way to the last screen on your trade and then it won't let them complete the trade. That's how you know you're banned - as stupid as that sounds, that's how it works... Leave it to Best Buy...

Did you get banned, IATCG? I don't remember you saying. I take it yes?

I assume I would have, too, if they had my whole history (which, evidently, they don't).

Yep. I finally got the banhammer from BB trading. I honestly don't know what finally triggered it, but I'll be pissed if it was the 3x Dead Island for 360 trade, since that was just before they changed the limit down to one copy per title per year. So maybe they instituted it earlier than they said and that's what snagged me finally.

Who knows. All I know is I'm going outta town this afternoon for work, so I'm seriously considering calling them bright n early tomorrow to see if I can get any info as to what got me banned. Chances are if they're as 'helpful' as other people have said I'm just gonna be told 'you're banned and that's it'.

I thought they ban your drivers license instead of your reward zone since you would be able to trade without your reward zone

Apparently not since some traders who were banned under their own accounts(velo214) have had someone else do trades for them but also use their RZ card/GCU number to get the bonus 10% bump.

ummm that's what he said. they don't ban your RZ, they ban your drivers license.

Best Buy seems really strict about trading lately. For the first time at my store today i had to get my games marked. Walked right past the lady without thinking and she acted like i was stealing or something, not only put stickers on the cases but on each disc too. (And i traded in Lost Odyssey, so she put stickers on all 4 discs

Hey guys I posted this in another thread but I got to thinking this is the thread for guys who know how to work a deal. My cosing BBY has the Gears 3 xbox for 279. Comes with a 320 GB HD the game and 2 controllers. I already have the game, and a 250 slim. Is it worth it? What's the best I could net out flipping my xbox and Gears 3 to gamestop? I really don't want to mess with Craigslist if I can come out ok otherwise. Thanks

Weird, guess they just started enforcing it at this store then. Even the employee in the back thought it was pretty funny at how strict she was being. (Apparently someone else must have said something about it to him)

Just traded in Disney Universe (profit), operation flashpoint: rr (profit), homefront (profit) and spoke with Best Buy dude. He agreed its now 1 game copy per system but was clueless to the limit of 50. Then reasonably disagreeing because as he said "they want people to trade in games and kill GameStop, they just don't want dealers/mass flippers". It was a good point so I'll continue how I do till the man tries to keep me down.
I'm pretty sure most of us that are banned (especially in the first few waves of bans) reached your 132 in a month or two.
Month or two? That's cute. Try a week.
I love how this thread always devolves into a penis contest.

fixed.

I was going more for an average. I personally did 76 in one shot. You know what kind of games those were.

So what are all you clowns going to do now that you've gotten yourselves banned from trading at Best Buy? Have the girlfr... err grandmother do them for you?

I'm not banned, but if I were (and may be at any time), I could have the ball and ch... err wife trade for me... Not everyone is without a life, dude. Some of us are married with children and in professional careers.

Actually now that I have dual trading bans at both GS and BB, I plan on actually doing like I did last gen and keeping all my games till the end of this gen and then sell them in one big lot to someone who wants an instant collection.

[customspoiler=Rant]Do I care that I got banned at either place? Eh. A little. Especially since I had managers' approval on the multiples and HDMI cables as long as I showed a receipt at my local GS stores. Personally I think their DM just didn't like me since I was a lil too sure of myself and only really traded stuff in if I was making 2-4x what I paid for it. He said I was a 'bad customer'.

My "transgressions" according to him included: wanting to get promos on both a stack of 20-30 PS3 games and a 40gb PS3 I was trading in on the same day:)shock:), stealing a Dual Shock 3 by swapping it out for a SixAxis controller supposedly and of course the HDMI trading and me trying for pennied guides/items even after he 'warned' me about trying for them. Yep. You heard that right. He yelled at me(a customer) for trying for items that his employees had left out on the shelves that should NOT have been on there already.

He really knows how to make his customers feel welcome in his stores, especially when they're trading in THOUSANDS of dollars in merchandise that they can then turn around and resell at a profit. Well....except maybe those Tom Clancy Triple Packs for the original Xbox that I sold them at $13 a clip disc only. Those were probably STILL sitting on the shelves till they cleared out the Xbox stock.:evil:

As for the BB ban, I got to know the gaming reps at my closest store pretty well(just like I had with the reps at the closest GS store), so that one does kinda suck. But I will still go into the store to use my @Gamer coupons whenever there's an absolutely insane deal again. Otherwise I'll make mini origami hats out of the coupons I don't use to at least get some use outta em.[/customspoiler]

Oh hey, they finally got Prototype 2 trade-in.

I kind of want to trade in mine for both consoles but I want to wait after the 7 week radnet thing is over with. What are the chances 50% trade-in bonus will still be up by then?

I don't think people are being banned for trading in 3 copies of a title per platform per year... If so, I would've been banned a while back. I still trade at least 2 copies of each game, usually on each platform, every time that I trade in. I do not go over the 3 limit though, and I confirm the limit every other visit.

The associates in my store have never heard of a 50 limit, and the only time they ever looked at me funny was when I bought 3 copies of bf3 to take to GS thinking they still had +50%. Turns out GS didn't have it anymore, so I walked my happy ass back to BB and the girl that just rang me out for 42$ looked at me funny when I traded in the same 3 games for 72$. Other than that time, no one has ever, ever looked at me awkwardly or even cared to notice what I was doing.

OMG. They dropped Disney Universe to $5 and Duke Nukem Forever for $1. I shouldve just trade them in instead of playing through the game. sigh
So I went back and looked at my trade history and I have traded 132 games in the last 10 months to BBY. Not sure what the #s are for those who have been banned but I have never been given a hard time or even sniffed a ban so far. For those getting banned are you way above this amount?

where did u go to look up ur trade history? rz account?
Sorry I kind of left you hanging. I keep track of my trading in a spreadsheet (the scientist in me) so I can have an idea of how well I am doing. BBY is now keeping track with you RZ account but that is only recently. Sound to me like those with issues trade high volume in one trade. I have only done that a few times and it was mostly 5-6 months ago. I try to keep it to less than 10 now...mainly because they can be so slow.

I'm sure they will have 50% trade in by the time Radnet is finished. Though, not sure if it will be for just trade in. Could have some kind of condition. Tempted to trade in too. Already beat it and Platinum it. Looking through the Radnet stuff, none of it looks interesting enough for me to keep.

If I sign up for the Gamer Unlocked in store, does the benefits start right then or do I have to wait a couple of days. I was gonna sign up for it, then trade in some games to get the extra 10%.

You can use the benefits right away. The only thing you will have to wait for is the magazine and welcome pack of coupons.

- 50% Bonus Trade-In Credit W/any trade in:
Get a 50% bonus when you trade-in any game (Offer valid 4/22- 5/05)

I was told you have to trade 3 games in to get this deal ....

To me it was a waste(both in gas and credit) if I only did $40-60 worth of trades and still had to do a $5 pre-order deposit to get the actual bonus bump.

If you sign up in store, you get your first magazine right then. The guy who was trying to get me to sign up mentioned that. Though I, already, read that on here.

Do you need the game with you to get it price matched? I've seen it asked but never confirmed. I was thinking of trading in prototype 2 when I beat it but id like to pm it if the price falls

For the most part, you do not need the item if you price match. I've had it done with the item, but sometimes I've hear people needing the item. It's doable without it though. Just the receipt. Though be warn they can refuse select items. Like Prototype 2 since it comes with a exclusive DLC. Some will not do it cause it's technically not the same "item". Though you probably won't have big problems since you have to go to CS and they probably don't care of the difference.
