Get $20 trade-in Credit when you trade 4 or more games (Current gen games only (no PS2) and $5 minimum for each game). Offer valid 10/2/11 - 10/08/11**** This promo was cancelled early due to technical issues. There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracked on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone/Android app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

How come the GOTY/complete version doesn't show up in the estimator?
Best Buy doesn't differentiate between the vanilla and GOTY/complete versions of a game. This is largely a cover-all policy due to the fact that many GOTY editions include the game's DLC and bonus content as one-time use codes; meaning that the game has no extra value on the 2nd hand market. So no extra TIV for your GOTY games. The plus side is that GOTY and vanilla versions sell at the same price, so if the DLC is located on disc and you find a GOTY version in-store it will be the same price as the vanilla one.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but updates can and do happen at any time. Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Lately some people have been told the policy is 1 game per system (i.e. you could trade in 1 copy of a game for Xbox, 1 for PS3 and 1 for Wii), and have been actively turned down when trading in more than one copy. Whether this is actually something they are banning for or if it is just what employees are being told to follow to limit multiples is unknown. Trade multiples at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually. Yes, this also applies to DS, 3DS, PSP, etc. If you have the manual and artwork you should trade it in though anyway to improve the quality of the selection for people who may want to buy the game in the future (you can't know if the game will be complete when you buy online for example).

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only. Employees have gotten much better about knowing this policy though.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, and some stores apparently accept consoles as well. Call ahead before bringing it in. That said, the TIV for most hardware is lower than competitors.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or even city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll need a (United States) state issued ID or passport.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return. You might even be flat out denied by the employee or manager despite the official rule.

Remember, all trades are technically at the discretion of Best Buy and they can refuse to accept a game for whatever reason they want (outside of you being black, woman, Jewish, etc.).
What amounts do these Visa cards come in?
Any amount you choose up to $200. There is a $5.95 fee for each card.

today was a good flip day. just flipped 4 games i rebought on gamefly. $48gamefly bill, $80 tiv credit. i hate paying cash but that just got me deadliest warriors and silent hill downpour free so i can't complain too much.

I tried a trade in today after about a month or so of not doing trades due to getting that ban screen popping up at the end of the last trade I tried. I don't wanna jinx it, but the trade went through.

I got $117.60 total for 6 games after the 100% bonus promo and my 10% for GCU.

I traded in:

:ps3:Rage-$5($10.50 after bonus n GCU)
:ps3:Bulletstorm-$6($12.60 after bonus n GCU)
:ps3:Medal Of Honor-$5($10.50 after bonus n GCU)
:ps3:Skyrim-$17($35.70 after bonus n GCU)
:ps3:Sniper Ghost Warrior-$11($23.10 after bonus n GCU)
:ps3:Batman: Arkham City-$12($25.20 after bonus n GCU)

Both the rep and I were shocked as hell when we got all the way to the end of the trade transaction and it went through. I ended up buying a pristine/mint condition/sealed :ps3:Skyrim CE for $60, a copy of Silent Hill Downpour for $20 and used the one @Gamer coupon to pick up a $5 copy of Dragon Age II. I still have about $30 in credit left on the gc from the trade today.

Best part is most if not all of those games were either PM's or bought with @Gamer coupons and gaming credit and aside from Skyrim I got double what I paid back in credit today for most of them. Even then, I was only off by $4 n change on Skyrim being a free rental since launch cuz I pm'd the $40 price someone had a while ago n got $20 back in credit.:D

But after the ban notice that last time I tried a trade I'm gonna calm shit down and not go overboard again.:whistle2:#
ohh nice, can you use one of them smart phone apps, to swipe the card and deposit in your bank account?
why would you want to pay the fees?

Surely in the course of living, there's an opportunity to use the credit card, yes?

If this deal does last through to 7/7, I recommend every Amazon user who planned to see the movie Brave to get the DS version of the game. It's $30, but you get $20 back in promo credit, and an $8 voucher to see the movie. You trade the game back into BB same day, you'll probably get at least $12 after the bonus since Madagascar 3 for DS (released a month ago) is currently going for $6 before the bonus.

Traded in Max Payne 3 and Madden 12 getting 52.80 with 10% for being a gamer member.

They have $20 gift card if I preorder NCAA. Now would I get the gift card by Madden release date as I'd probably use and NCAA trade in to get it.

The terms say it takes about 30 days for the RZ points to post. Since NCAA 13 comes out on July 10 and Madden 13 comes out August 28, you should have your $20 RZ certificate by then.

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=322426

1 - $720 + tax for 12 games - $720 + tax
2 - Sell each game for $50 cash day 1 on craiglist + $500 cash
3 - Price match each title(using $40 since it's the most likely across the board) + $240 back
4 - Received $240 credit for doing the deal + $240 credit
5 - Use the $480 credit on pre-paid visa cards or if you have a relative/friend that has another RZ account rinse/repeat.

Not sure if you're gonna play some or keep some games so adjust the CL # accordingly

Is this deal good on prepaid cards???????????????? If so I'm in for dumping my old games for Amazon kindle credit, because there's no games I want atm.

Don't forget about selling the preorder dlc if it comes with a game.. that adds $5-30 each

you get a BB giftcard which can be used on anything in store
Don't forget about selling the preorder dlc if it comes with a game.. that adds $5-30 each
And RZ points if the whole $720 isn't credit.

If you do it twice one for profit & one for games be sure to set the table for 2013

1-get a GCU sub.(there's no longer any valid argument not to have it unless a BB isn't close to you)
2-Try to reach RZ silver status at lil risk with 1/3 of it up for grabs in this deal.

The DOTD's & sales thru 2013 should be covered from this deal alone & you get credit/RZ points all along the way.

I will definitely be buying all of these titles for all of the above reasons mentioned. Likely will only keep Halo 4 and Assassin's Creed III.

Well, just traded in another 20 games for another $200. Between the 8 yesterday that banked me $120 that brings me to $320 which I had to spend on a new xbox today.

It was almost heart breaking to trade in a chunk of my backlog but w/ the trade in prices as they are I can't really complain.

Traded in some games yesterday and didn't get the extra 10% for being an Unlocked member. I wasn't sure if the CSR even applied my Reward Zone membership to the trade in for the extra 10% since it wasn't stated anywhere on the trade in receipt. Bought a $5 DA2 and when I did, asked the same CSR about my RZ membership not being noted anywhere on the trade in receipt. He said while it didn't appear on the receipt, I would get the points. I assumed that you'd get the extra 10% automatically if you're an Unlocked member. Fast forward to today and points from the trade in show up as pending. Was there something I was missing to not get the extra 10% but did get 2x points from trading in?

*edit
Just checked and you don't have to be an Unlocked member to get 2x points from trading in, just a Gamers Club member. So I guess my question is the extra 10% for being an Unlocked member not automatic even if my RZ barcode was scanned?
Any BB in New York City but if you want specifics it's either the one in Union Sq or 23rd st. Going through the bins downstairs looking for stuff I can sell back and just want to know if anyone had issues selling games back to those BB.
Curious, did you try yet? Kinda late at getting back to you. I looked at some stores in NYC. Not from there so I didn't know which store to look, but the ones I did it looked like it didn't mention you needed to have a receipt so I believe you're good. It's best to call just in case.

As a well known customer at bestbuys around my area strait edge got you covered !

Bestbuys that take trade ins without receipts:

23'rd and 5'th ave
44'th and 5'th ave
West 63'rd (near lincon center)
East 86'th street and lexington

These are the stores i always do my business at so this info is correct :). By the way im so mad that raccoon city dropped to 7 base ! Mod nation vita dropped to 5$ too so If you are flipping dotd games back to bestbuy you should do it by the next morning after buying it or else lol

Was kinda letdown by a wrong TIV on the Best Buy website.

NHL 09 and NHL 10 were 4$ and 8$ respectively on the website. Meaning 8 and 16 in credit.

Sick deal for such old games. But when I went to the store an our later they rang up half that. 09 was 2$ and 10 was 4$. Still traded em in as it was still decent with 100%. But almost had a really nice double up there.
why would you want to pay the fees?

Surely in the course of living, there's an opportunity to use the credit card, yes?
Because with that swipe program it comes out to $10.95 total per $200 in credit that's been converted over to pre-paid Visas to convert that to actual cash versus funds that're just locked to a pre-paid card.

$10.95=$5.95 fee to activate pre-paid card and it's usually 2.5% of whatever total you're swiping through(aka $5 for every $200).

Call first. I was going to trade in Disgaea 4 for $25.20 (after bonus and RZGC, originally $12 like it said on site), and they rang it up as $9 original. Told them I wanted the game back. The next closest BB rang it up as the online TIV of $12 (plus bonuses), so just call in advance if you're only going in for a couple of games.

what kind of life do you lead that you don't spend $200 on stuff using a credit card at least in a month? gas, groceries?

Hmm interesting, so two different stores could have different values? I didnt mind so much since its old sports titles. Thats why I told the guy to go ahead with it.

I'd still rather the money be in my account to do with as I please versus on a card where it's locked there.

If you're gonna use up the $200 anyway, why pay an extra fee on top of that to square or paypal?

I don't understand your logic at all.

Then again, I guess some people also use check cashing places, which I don't understand either. It's like a dummy tax.

The main argument I would make is that in some places using the pre-paid is a pain in the ass (such as gas which due to the approval process ties up more funds than you actually use for a while), restaurants (a lot of restaurants POS systems will reject a visa gift card outright if say you have a $50 tab and $40 on the card). Not to mention the fact that you wind up with one or two cards in your wallet, if you need to return anything you either need the card or deal with inevitable gift cards in return (happened to me once with a pre-paid visa and a game from target). Not to mention the hassle of using them online and keeping track of what is on the cards as well (if you have several), so on.

Not saying I'd necessarily go to the trouble of transferring it to cash, but I get why some do.

I havent used a Credit Card in 7 years. When you have the money its wiser to spend it that way. Although I used by Debit card as Credit but sorta all works the same way since the money is in there.
I will definitely be buying all of these titles for all of the above reasons mentioned. Having half of what it takes to become RZ silver in the bag before 2012 ends can't be bad.

That way the CC company won't reduce your credit line which hurts your credit score. I know people who pay their CC 4-8 times a month(after each purchase) & their scores are off the charts.

Yes this is also true. Its good for your score. Me personally I have 3-4 large loans i pay on time which helps more so than anything. All are good ways to up the score.

I did a instore pickup for modnation vita for 11.99 in CS area. Walk out the store, remove the seal and walk back in and to the game section and traded in for 23.10 a few days ago. Same thing with SH downpour. Better off traded them back immediately before the value plunges.

Haven't seen this mentioned, but was informed that I would receive reward zone points on the trade ins since purchases made with a gift card do not count towards the same points. Was told the policy recently changed. Unsure if it's true, or just another store employee making shit up.

Same employee also told me that trades now count towards obtaining silver status.

If true, this is a nice bonus to what otherwise is a great promotion.

You're going to get banned again. I'm surprised anyone would even think of trading in games to Best Buy when they're the ones who sold them to you dirt cheap in the first place. (Doesn't that indicate to you that they're doing everything but literally giving them away?) Especially when there's a clear paper trail proving that you purchased them from them.

I think that's how I became Silver. Is with my trade ins. And it might happen again since I have till February 2013

Here is how you become silver that I got via email:

I am xxxxx, an account specialist with Best Buy Reward Zone. Thank you for contacting Best Buy about your Reward Zone account. I will be more than glad to assist you. I will be happy to explain that there are three ways to qualify for Premier Silver. The following are ways to qualify for Premier Silver:

Spend $2500 at Best Buy or BestBuy.com from 1/1 to 12/31 in a year.

Spend $2500 with your Master Card at places other than Best Buy in a year.

Spend $4000 in the last 2 years

I'm assuming they mean the BB Master card, but I found the 3rd one interesting.

Damn I didn't realize bulletstorm went back up. I'm three sections away from completion so Ima have to wrap the game up lol

Had trouble trading Halo CE Anniversary today. Apparently when they scanned it nothing came up, the same thing happened when they tried to find it by typing the name. I found it strange since it clearly shows that the TIV for it is $10 on their online estimator. Has anyone had any issues like this lately?
Also the system was down yesterday, but when I tried again today Halo and Active Life: Magical Carnival were the only games that did not showed up on their system.

Was shocked to see used persona 3 FES and KH chain of memories at my best buy. And these were delivered recently because I check often. I really hope someone didn't trade those in for $0.25 each.

Unless there's something in the T&C for the Gamer's Club that says you can't EVER trade in games bought while part of that program I see nothing wrong with it. Not only that but I didn't see myself ever playing Bulletstorm or Rage, so I figured I'd better get rid of them while they have some value to them.

But now that I checked one of my other usual places to trade into where I can get CASH from, I should've traded in Rage and Arkham City to them, since I could've received $23 something for them there.

I was there to make a purchase at BB anyway, but I didn't wanna pay cash if I could avoid it. So being able to trade again yesterday made me happy since I was able to spend credit again.

I'm not feeling too happy right now though, since I just realized I think I traded in at least a few of those games on a prior visit to BB.:whistle2:#:dunce:#-o#-o#-o Albeit I think Rage was a trade last year soon after Black Friday when I got it and two other sale games with my GCU welcome packet B2G1 coupon.;)
