Get $20 trade-in Credit when you trade 4 or more games (Current gen games only (no PS2) and $5 minimum for each game). Offer valid 10/2/11 - 10/08/11**** This promo was cancelled early due to technical issues. There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracked on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone/Android app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

How come the GOTY/complete version doesn't show up in the estimator?
Best Buy doesn't differentiate between the vanilla and GOTY/complete versions of a game. This is largely a cover-all policy due to the fact that many GOTY editions include the game's DLC and bonus content as one-time use codes; meaning that the game has no extra value on the 2nd hand market. So no extra TIV for your GOTY games. The plus side is that GOTY and vanilla versions sell at the same price, so if the DLC is located on disc and you find a GOTY version in-store it will be the same price as the vanilla one.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but updates can and do happen at any time. Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Lately some people have been told the policy is 1 game per system (i.e. you could trade in 1 copy of a game for Xbox, 1 for PS3 and 1 for Wii), and have been actively turned down when trading in more than one copy. Whether this is actually something they are banning for or if it is just what employees are being told to follow to limit multiples is unknown. Trade multiples at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually. Yes, this also applies to DS, 3DS, PSP, etc. If you have the manual and artwork you should trade it in though anyway to improve the quality of the selection for people who may want to buy the game in the future (you can't know if the game will be complete when you buy online for example).

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only. Employees have gotten much better about knowing this policy though.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, and some stores apparently accept consoles as well. Call ahead before bringing it in. That said, the TIV for most hardware is lower than competitors.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or even city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll need a (United States) state issued ID or passport.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return. You might even be flat out denied by the employee or manager despite the official rule.

Remember, all trades are technically at the discretion of Best Buy and they can refuse to accept a game for whatever reason they want (outside of you being black, woman, Jewish, etc.).

IATCG brings up a good point about never trading in games bought from BB. If I'm not mistaken, isn't there still some stores that only take trade ins that were bought from Best Buy?
Haven't seen this mentioned, but was informed that I would receive reward zone points on the trade ins since purchases made with a gift card do not count towards the same points. Was told the policy recently changed. Unsure if it's true, or just another store employee making shit up.

Same employee also told me that trades now count towards obtaining silver status.

If true, this is a nice bonus to what otherwise is a great promotion.
yeah, u do get points for trade ins it started 3/1
Here is how you become silver that I got via email:

I'm assuming they mean the BB Master card, but I found the 3rd one interesting.
$2K in 2 yrs nice

That reminds me that I've gotta double check and see if my purchases from yesterday were put on my RZ account or not. The gaming rep rang up the items at the gaming register, but I don't recall him asking for my card.
You're going to get banned again. I'm surprised anyone would even think of trading in games to Best Buy when they're the ones who sold them to you dirt cheap in the first place. (Doesn't that indicate to you that they're doing everything but literally giving them away?) Especially when there's a clear paper trail proving that you purchased them from them.
Are you trying to say that Best Buy would rather have people buy games elsewhere before trading them in? That makes absolutely no sense.

When the trade-in program first started, there were some clueless stores that wouldn't even accept games unless you could prove you bought them at Best Buy.
I tried a trade in today after about a month or so of not doing trades due to getting that ban screen popping up at the end of the last trade I tried. I don't wanna jinx it, but the trade went through.

I got $117.60 total for 6 games after the 100% bonus promo and my 10% for GCU.

I traded in:

:ps3:Rage-$5($10.50 after bonus n GCU)
:ps3:Bulletstorm-$6($12.60 after bonus n GCU)
:ps3:Medal Of Honor-$5($10.50 after bonus n GCU)
:ps3:Skyrim-$17($35.70 after bonus n GCU)
:ps3:Sniper Ghost Warrior-$11($23.10 after bonus n GCU)
:ps3:Batman: Arkham City-$12($25.20 after bonus n GCU)

Both the rep and I were shocked as hell when we got all the way to the end of the trade transaction and it went through. I ended up buying a pristine/mint condition/sealed :ps3:Skyrim CE for $60, a copy of Silent Hill Downpour for $20 and used the one @Gamer coupon to pick up a $5 copy of Dragon Age II. I still have about $30 in credit left on the gc from the trade today.

Best part is most if not all of those games were either PM's or bought with @Gamer coupons and gaming credit and aside from Skyrim I got double what I paid back in credit today for most of them. Even then, I was only off by $4 n change on Skyrim being a free rental since launch cuz I pm'd the $40 price someone had a while ago n got $20 back in credit.:D

But after the ban notice that last time I tried a trade I'm gonna calm shit down and not go overboard again.:whistle2:#
Congrats!:D

Now, get cho azz a 1 year PS+ subscription! Should be cheap with the 100% trades!:applause:

Now, get cho azz a 1 year PS+ subscription! Should be cheap with the 100% trades!:applause:
Nah. I spent $90 of the almost $120 already. But maybe if Target has another $15 oopsie I'll try PMing it to BB. Otherwise I'm not paying anything over that for PS+.:booty:

At least IATCG applies his deal time machine restrictions to himself when he misses a deal.

Just beat MW3 for the second time in 3 days after buying it on sale for $24.99 last week - time to unload this game while the TIV is good.
So I guess Best Buy got wise to Thinksmart as the trade-in was only $1 today, despite showing $5 on their site.
This is getting to be very strange and worrysome--there's no way to know if those values are correct for the obscure titles. I'm glad I traded in Thinksmart before this happened, but I hope this doesn't happen for the 5-or-so games I plan to trade in tomorrow. :???:

The same thing happened to me today with Halo CE and Magical Carnival
IATCG brings up a good point about never trading in games bought from BB. If I'm not mistaken, isn't there still some stores that only take trade ins that were bought from Best Buy?
Yup-Here on LI, you have to have a BB receipt to trade in there so the theory that trading in games that you bought from there is bad due to paper trail is bs. Here, no paper trail, no trade

I actually had this explained to me today by an employee. This was in MA. The normal BB I go to has no problem taking in any games that you bring to them. Yesterday, I stopped into a different BB [same state] and they said they could only take games purchased from BB because the town that they were located in had not yet approved their "brokers licence". He equated it to the same licence that allows a pawn shop to operate [I claim no knowledge on the subject].

He said that once they were approved and paid the appropriate fee they could then accept any games.

Maybe this is the issue that these other stores are facing.

It absolutely is. The pawn shop laws here dictate. Gamestop gets around them because they are a "specialty store" and their entire business model revolves around used trades. No dice for BB as they are general electronics. Hell, until a month ago, BB could not even sell preowned games here. Now they finally can(and are doing so) but are still restricted in what they can take in.

You got cheated.

Has anyone traded in Resistance: Burning Skies for psvita? I have looked on their site and the value should be $11 but the game isn't even showing up. I called my local store and they said they aren't taking that game in for trades currently because it is too new. I asked how much was the trade in value for Gravity Rush and he responded $11 and I said that just came out on tuesday!!!

This promo has really made me realize how my game buying has been out of control. Not so much that I have spent a ton on games but rather I have just accumulated too many beyond what I am capable of playing. I have already unloaded 30+ games from the backlog that were getting good TIVs but I had not played. Now I am staring a 10 more games I want play before the promo finishes but there is just no way of getting through them in time. If I can't do that how do I ever get through the 80+ games left in the backlog while still wanting to play some new releases coming up? I guess the first part of recovery is admitting you have a problem.
That reminds me that I've gotta double check and see if my purchases from yesterday were put on my RZ account or not. The gaming rep rang up the items at the gaming register, but I don't recall him asking for my card.
Might want to wait a few days. It takes 5 days to show up. Of course, if you have your receipt you can see if your RZ was used and you could add it then.
Was kinda letdown by a wrong TIV on the Best Buy website.

NHL 09 and NHL 10 were 4$ and 8$ respectively on the website. Meaning 8 and 16 in credit.

Sick deal for such old games. But when I went to the store an our later they rang up half that. 09 was 2$ and 10 was 4$. Still traded em in as it was still decent with 100%. But almost had a really nice double up there.
You sure that you saw $4 and $8 respectively? I unloaded those when the promo first went live and they were $2 and $4 on the site and in store.
Traded in some games yesterday and didn't get the extra 10% for being an Unlocked member. I wasn't sure if the CSR even applied my Reward Zone membership to the trade in for the extra 10% since it wasn't stated anywhere on the trade in receipt. Bought a $5 DA2 and when I did, asked the same CSR about my RZ membership not being noted anywhere on the trade in receipt. He said while it didn't appear on the receipt, I would get the points. I assumed that you'd get the extra 10% automatically if you're an Unlocked member. Fast forward to today and points from the trade in show up as pending. Was there something I was missing to not get the extra 10% but did get 2x points from trading in?

*edit
Just checked and you don't have to be an Unlocked member to get 2x points from trading in, just a Gamers Club member. So I guess my question is the extra 10% for being an Unlocked member not automatic even if my RZ barcode was scanned?
Something similar happened to me. To get the +10%, the employee had to click the radial button that signed me up for Unlocked (even though I was already Unlocked). Oddly, by clicking this, it added the +10% but did not try to recharge me the $14.99 subscription fee.

I was hoping to unload all of my Professor Layton DS games, but noticed that the most recent one (The Last Specter) isn't on BB's website. Seems odd that a newer game wouldn't show up.

Yeah I actually tried to trade in Layton and the Last Specter in-store, but no luck there either. I think it's just a freak thing.

I game a ton. Probably a borderline addiction. This site sort of feeds into that lol :(

I traded in some games last week, got 152.00 but my reward zone member # wasn't used when i did the trade. Is there anyway to get the points for doing the trade or am i screwed cause it wasn't used at the time of the trade?

I think overnight they dropped a lot of game values from what the site is reporting.

Wish I could confirm but the BBY employee stapled a bunch of random papers to the final amount value (I guess the printer was screwed up) and really don't feel like going back for $10/15 difference from what I found last night using my fuzzy math.

Traded in 20 games today (got the $252 that I had calculated last week when I had first inteded on making the trade). After, an employee told the employee that had done my trades that there was a 5-game trade limit and was shocked that all 20 were accepted.

Damn, I think I've been seeing those at Kmart's clearance, but ignoring them. Don't know when I'll get back there. Thanks for those!

My buddy and I raided all the local stores clearance bin. We ended up making $40 profit on the double trade-in values. Pretty awesome.

Did Silent Hill Downpour ps3 drop below $12? The site still says $12, but I want to make sure before I drive. It sucks that the site isn't accurate anymore. Although, for some games like RE Raccoon City the change was instant on Monday night I think.
Bakugan and NCIS haven't changed.
Neither had the others. ;) I scored a $96.60 GC for trading all but Storybook Workshop in (wasn't able to pick it up today due to time constraints; hopefully over the weekend I can try again). Add to that the $21.20 GC I got for PMing my release-week copy of Max Payne 3 to the current $39.99 price GCU members pay for it and I had a pretty productive day. \\:D/

Sorry if this has been asked before but I looked through about 75 pages and still couldn't find an answer. Does anyone know if the 100% bonus trade-in is automatically applied or does the employee have to manually do it. I ask this because I tried to trade in about 4 games earlier and the best buy employee stated only my battlefield 3 was eligible for the 100% bonus. I tried to correct her and even pointed her towards the best buy website but she stood her ground. For the people who went through with the deal already, how did the process go?

Should be auto. Example: Fallout NV TIV $3 = $6
Skyrim 360 $17= $34
ETC
The TIV may have dropped. (Fallout NV was $5 yesterday, but today $3)

Um, she shouldn't be doing trade in's then?

A) You have to be trade in certified, not every employee can access it, so that leaves BBY Mobile, Gaming & Customer Service. So if she was able to log in and do it, then she simply doesn't know how to do her job and I'd inform her of this.

B) If your store doesn't have a dedicated gaming dpt then it's probably only through CS which could explain the retardation

And this is all from an employee. It automatically applies the 100%, and on the computer screen the only option she can even give you is the 100% or nothing at all. Ask to see the screen if this happens again.

Not to mention its simple math. When you first get your quote just double it, it's always going to be the same, as opposed to her claim of "only select titles".

Yeah, dumb employee. Sorry

Yeah sounds like you had a really dumb employee, go back and ask for her supervisor with your receipt.

May have to research the thread discussing GS flips...might be making a trip to a BB tomorrow anyway so may as well get some profit out of it

Employee screwed up, just traded mine in today for $10.50.

When I did my trades the other day one of the goons said they don't take competitor cases (I was trading in old BBV/GS games) but I did a round of trades a couple weeks earlier to preorder Borderlands 2 -_-

And still no Burning Skies TIV. Guess I got a gouple weeks lol

I assume you take the stickers off the cases when you buy your games. I know I usually do. Not only that but I always make sure I get an official case with everything with it if buying from GS and most of the BBV stores by me no longer use the rental cases when selling games. They use the official ones that the games would come with when new.

If an employee asks about the residue (which hasn't happened yet ), I'll just shrug and say how messed up GS is with using stickers like that.

Earlier today I picked up a couple of (unfortunately) disc-only (one :360:, one :ps3:) games from GS in their standard cases--the ones with the Gamestop "packaging", removed the packaging before taking the games in to BBY, and traded them in with no problems; I guess it depends on your store.

Go to Best Buy's forums. Find a Mod and PM them. Sorry, I don't know the actual email for better way of contacting. If you let them know, they could be able to do something. Happen to me when I trade a good amount and none of it showed up on my Rewards (even though it was used). They couldn't credit my games onto RZ account, but they did give me enough points to cover what I lost.

Warning, it may take some time for them to get back to you. Just make sure you have a copy of your trade in forms (with the games you traded in) so you can send them proof. If you don't have those papers anymore, I'm not sure if they could help you.

The point is the case is irrelevant when they say they just need a disc to trade in games. Maybe my local BB just has dumb employees, I dunno.

Some of the other people who have done trade ins for me besides the regular 3-4 people acted like I was interrupting them when I would come in with my games and stand by the gaming counter waiting for someone to come over and help me.

So maybe that's what happened here. You disturbed their social hours and made them actually work for their pay.
