Get $20 trade-in Credit when you trade 4 or more games (Current gen games only (no PS2) and $5 minimum for each game). Offer valid 10/2/11 - 10/08/11**** This promo was cancelled early due to technical issues. There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracked on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone/Android app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

How come the GOTY/complete version doesn't show up in the estimator?
Best Buy doesn't differentiate between the vanilla and GOTY/complete versions of a game. This is largely a cover-all policy due to the fact that many GOTY editions include the game's DLC and bonus content as one-time use codes; meaning that the game has no extra value on the 2nd hand market. So no extra TIV for your GOTY games. The plus side is that GOTY and vanilla versions sell at the same price, so if the DLC is located on disc and you find a GOTY version in-store it will be the same price as the vanilla one.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but updates can and do happen at any time. Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Lately some people have been told the policy is 1 game per system (i.e. you could trade in 1 copy of a game for Xbox, 1 for PS3 and 1 for Wii), and have been actively turned down when trading in more than one copy. Whether this is actually something they are banning for or if it is just what employees are being told to follow to limit multiples is unknown. Trade multiples at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually. Yes, this also applies to DS, 3DS, PSP, etc. If you have the manual and artwork you should trade it in though anyway to improve the quality of the selection for people who may want to buy the game in the future (you can't know if the game will be complete when you buy online for example).

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only. Employees have gotten much better about knowing this policy though.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, and some stores apparently accept consoles as well. Call ahead before bringing it in. That said, the TIV for most hardware is lower than competitors.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or even city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll need a (United States) state issued ID or passport.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return. You might even be flat out denied by the employee or manager despite the official rule.

Remember, all trades are technically at the discretion of Best Buy and they can refuse to accept a game for whatever reason they want (outside of you being black, woman, Jewish, etc.).

Weird. I have a $5 bonus RZ certificate listed as being redeemable as of yesterday, as well as more than enough points on my account for a regular $5 certificate. Yet neither are showing on my account right now.:whistle2:s

I guess maybe I'll have to contact customer service about this or post on the BB forums.

That best buy forum seems useless. I posted about recovering points from my trade when i didn't give my reward zone #, 4hrs later nothing and also sent a private msg to 1 mod 2hrs ago, and just sent another to a different mod 30min ago. Probably just gonna have to go to the store where i did the trade and see what can be done.
Are you supposed to get points for trades?
Yeah, says 2x points for every dollar for reward zone gamer members, reg and unlocked

The mods on there typically take about 3 business days(meaning Mon-Fri ONLY) to respond to a thread made on there. Sometimes it takes longer, sometimes it takes less time.

But if you're expecting an immediate answer, that likely isn't going to happen.

So I guess the flier is our 100% confirmed on the 7/7 end date but so far no mention of it in next week's ad. Also a B2G1 sale next week has me worried about TIV drops. Dump now or wait? Only waiting right now to play some of them but want to max TIV if possible.

There must be a glitch, because I saw the same thing this morning and I have less than 200 points.

You'll have to call if you want an immediate answer. I doubt they'll be able to do anything for you at the store.

Splinter Cell: Conviction
Vanquish
Shadows of the Damned
Metro 2033
Singularity
Majin and The Foresaken Kingdom
PoP:The Forgotten Sands
Red Faction:Armagedon
Army of Two:40th Day
Wolfenstein
Dungeon Seige III
Kane and Lynch: Dead Men
Wanted:Weapons of Fate
007 Bloodstone
God of War III

Yeah I don't expect to get through them all before the period is done. I can get $159.60 for them and I spent less than that total on them. These are the top games on my backlog that still are getting $8+ in trade after credit. I see no reason to trade backlog games getting less than $5 unless you know there is no way you will play them.

Personally I would keep/play Vanquish and God of War 3 no question. However I can see why you would want $16 plus for each if they are still getting at least 8 base TIV. They can be had for cheap if you look around. I dont care for any of the other games or havent played them expect 007. I dont know why, but I really like the last two games, Bloodstone and Quantum of solace, really fun campains, but agin, you can find that game for real cheap down the road too.

Having said that you should be able to blast through all three of the above games well before 7-7 if you just want t play them and dont care about "completing" them fully. You can get through each story quickly if thats all you want to do.

Thanks! I am about to start the 4th Act of Vanquished right now actually. It is a lot of fun. I think I will just try to get through as many as I can and then decide. Some I will most likely dump because I paid less than $10 and I would get back $16 right now.

I'd recommend playing Splinter Cell: Conviction and 007 Bloodstone. Wolfenstein is decent, but nothing new.

Singularity is an absolute gem. Cannot recommend that game enough.

I hope DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS JOKER 2 Stays at 8 bucks for a least another week..

love to get 16 out of it but just need to complete the post game goals

if you havent played this game on the ds yet get it..

30+ hour game

Put of thos I'd say beat, even possibly keep, God of War III, SC: Conviction, and Metro 2033.

The latter is an absolutely fantastic game, and the DLC they have out for it will add a bit of fun difficulty. Conviction I really enjoyed, and GoW3...well, it's self explanatory

Yeah I think I am letting this promo play with my head a bit. I have already traded in 45 games. Pretty much every game you guys are saying to keep are games I really want to play. I just need to chill and except that I will miss out on the 100% for some of these but in exchange I still get to keep some great games. There are a few on that list though that are gone no matter what.

Army of Two 40th Day I thought was godawful. I wouldn't waste my time playing that one.

I haven't played Kane and Lynch or Wanted: Weapons of Fate. But if I had those in my possession, unless I payed too much for them (and felt obligated to play), if I could dump those games and not lose anything I would probably do it.

Not sure what else are obvious dumps. The rest are at least average or much better than average. I certainly wouldn't give up God of War III or Vanquish.

So did you play these games already and just waiting for 100%, or did you not play some at all?

If it's just about getting 100%, then yeah whatever. I thought you are talking about a "backlog" of games you hadn't even opened yet. Certainly if you played the games you know which ones you liked and which ones you didn't. I'm at the point where I could give two shits about getting 100% in games, even though early on I tried to do that. If I tried to 100% every game I'd go crazy.

I have some guys in my PS3 friends lists that obviously do try to 100% every game, and for a few of them I have absolutley no idea where they find the time to do ALL of them because they are playing some serious games. Of course there are also some guys that 100% every game, but all they play is Disney games and easy to 100% games. They actually let the trophies dictate what games they play! That's just pathetic in my opinion.

Sorry /rant :shame:

I'm thinking more and more of dumping a lot of stuff except for the real "good ones" I have sitting around (RDR, Uncharted 2, etc) and building up credit for the pre-order bonuses and the games coming out late summer/fall this year I will want immediately. But man, I feel kinda dumb not playing them after so long!

For those who have new certs: RZ certs automatically cash out based on your setting now. Sometimes the points aren't updated in real time when the cert prints. Mine was showing 197/xxx pending and now it says 6/xxx pending and $5 cert.

Just traded a copy of final fantasy xiii-2 from GS that I paid 18.xx and Child of Eden from newegg deal for 9.99. Going to trade in Ace Combat from gamefly for 9.99 and wipeout 2048 that I bought from amazon for 15. Damn, I got like 3 BB GC, going to buy kindle cards. I LOVE IT!!!!!

No these are games I have never played. Some sitting on the shelf for years. I am definitely making that turn on the achievement thing. I was never into the whole 100% game completion but I definitely will chase certain achievements and i am now finding that I like games less and less because of them. I do not mind a few hard ones but sometimes I just wish they would make them straight forward...plus collectible achievements are horrible. It used to be collectibles added to the game but now they just seem as a way to artificially make the game longer. Seriously 3.0 for GOW3 is a perfect example of developers making an achievement a grind instead of fun.

All right, tried to help you out there. (my thoughts next to each game). I have actually played all those games at one point or another.

Seriously, don't trade in Metro, the game is superb.

I decided only to trade in games I was definitely sure I was done with (100%ed and I don't think I would want to re-play them). There are some games I could probably have sold now and re-bought later and make a small profit that way, but that's too much hassle for me.

Particularly of note, to me, are Transformers Dark of the Moon and Green Lantern, which I got for $5.25 new each from Best Buy in December, played in the past couple months, and sold back to them just now for $16.80 and $10.50, respectively.

Gamers Club Unlocked added another $6 onto the trade-ins I had. Between coupons and used/trade-in bonuses, it has already paid for itself, and I just got it in March.

This is how I did it, too. The only game I impulse traded because of how much it was worth was Skyrim. Then after a few days of not feeling like I had anything to play I bought it back new when it was onsale for $35. So, yeah, I lost a couple bucks there because I didn't think ahead well enough.

At a standstill... Trade SH Downpour back in while the gettin is good, and buy MP3 for $40...or beat Downpour?

I basically paid it off with credit the other day...and I've only played about 2 hrs of it...but $21 is good credit for the game. And I feel it will be back down to that price before MP3 ever hits $20 soon

Thanks for the input and everyone else's help. This helped a lot. No reason to dump a good/great game just for a few extra dollars. I am sure this won't be the last time to get a good trade at BBY and if the TIVs drop too much I will just sell it on ebay.

Alright bear with me i'm pretty dang sick with a headcold today... argh. Want to take advantage of this 100% bonus while i can, so is everyone definitely getting more out of the best buy trade in bonus than the current stacking GS bonus? I just want to make sure i'm getting the most out of my trade ins in general.

Also, does BB give you different amounts whether you choose a BB GC or just cash? Or does BB even do cash? I can't remember. I know i've traded in BB GC for Visa cards before, but i see some people are trading in for Kindle Cards... can those be used as general Amazon GCs? Sorry i know all of these questions can be answered if i sit and search through the thread but i have to leave the house soon and i still need to pick through my games.

Thanks for any help guys...

Best Buy gives gift cards only. ymmv on your store still carrying Visa cards to buy with your bby gc as some stores removed them. Kindle cards are the same as a generic amazon gc that can be used on anything on amazon.com. you have to do your own homework on your own games to see if gs or bby (or a combination) works best for you, but I think generally bestbuy has been proving to be a better value.

good luck.

I agree with you on all except Red Faction : Armagedon.I know its not the same as Guerilla, but i actually thought it was fun to play.

Just traded in MW3 for $35.70 after buying it for $24.99 last week. Beat the campaign twice and dabbled in Spec Ops. Good riddance.

I used to try to 100% games - but with some of these crazy achievements and the fact that there are always more achievements tied to DLC, it's not worth my time/money to go for 100% anymore. I still try to grab as many as I can because it adds some replay value, but there are too many good games out there and coming out this fall to grind away on some of these titles.

Is there a limit to the number of total games you can trade in? I would love to turn my game collection into a 50" Panasonic 3D Plasma with the free 3D Blu-Ray player.

BB only does giftcards. You can use those giftcards to buy Amazon Kindle cards which can be used as general Amazon credit. You can also get the Visa cards as you mentioned.

As for if its better than the GS deal, that really depends on what you're looking to trade and how much. I know when I traded my 4 games at BB I got $88 there while I would have only gotten $54 at GS.

More than likely, it was on sale when you traded it in. When a game is one sale, it's better to wait till the following week to trade.

Technically you could've bought the collector's edition for $60 plus tax and sold off everything but the game & bonus disc(artbook is averaging $15-40 on eBay, statue is getting $25-40) and had the game for basically free.

Only problem is the packaging for the game in the CE sucks(cardboard & plastic DVD box set type packaging, manual & map is in a lil slipcover type thing on the other side of that packaging), so I'd have kept the case/artwork & manual from your old copy to swap it out to. My manual from my CE was ripped on the front cover in several places from the moment I opened the CE up.:roll::whistle2:#

Also, how is Dungeon Siege III? I had it once before from when I bought it with an @Gamer coupon for I think $15. But just like many on here it sat in my backlog and I ended up trading it. I've been hoping for a $5-10 sale price on it after @Gamer coupon so I could pick it up again for cheap, but so far that hasn't happened.

As it stands I have Two Worlds II, Skyrim, Dragon Age Origins Ultimate, Dragon Age II and Kingdoms Of Amalur Reckoning sitting in my backlog that I should play as well. Sometimes it just isn't easy being a CAG and seeing all of these insane deals and grabbing them.
Why would anyone trade in a game for more store credit? i just find it so stupid.
Because compared to GS you can buy a wide variety of electronic items at BB and as others touched on already you can also buy Amazon Kindle gift cards(which work as general Amazon credit) or Visa pre-paid credit/debit cards.

The best part is with the SquareUp app and card reader for your smartphone you can get all of the money off those Visa pre-paid cards for essentially $11.48. The breakdown on that is that there's a $5.95 fee for activating each pp Visa and with the SquareUp app they charge a fee of 2.75% for each swipe. Since you can put $200 max on each pp Visa, that means they'll take a $5.50 fee out of the $200 on the card.

A small price to pay really to turn BB store credit into cash you can spend anywhere at any time and at least then it's in your bank account and not on some card you might misplace or lose.

This is the exact reason I will most likely trade Dungeon Siege III. I have about 5 other games kind of like it in the backlog. I paid $10.50 during a Gamefly sale and BBY will give me $14.70 for it. I can always go back and play it in a year when GoHastings has it for $7. That is the main thing driving me. Can I at least get my money back in credit? If I can then it is hard not to trade even games I want to play when you are still left with 70+ games in the backlog. When this month is done I could have about $800 in credit at BBY...eventually their used games will drop and I can swoop back in on a B2G1 sale. It is just hard sometimes to part with games you have not played but I am also trying to be realistic. CAG=Realistic...not usually when it comes to my buying habits.

I agree with the variety/Amazon bit, but I dont understand the logic with the Visa card/SquareUp app. To me, I'd rather keep the money right on the Visa card and just use that for purchases.
