Get $20 trade-in Credit when you trade 4 or more games (Current gen games only (no PS2) and $5 minimum for each game). Offer valid 10/2/11 - 10/08/11**** This promo was cancelled early due to technical issues. There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracked on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone/Android app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

How come the GOTY/complete version doesn't show up in the estimator?
Best Buy doesn't differentiate between the vanilla and GOTY/complete versions of a game. This is largely a cover-all policy due to the fact that many GOTY editions include the game's DLC and bonus content as one-time use codes; meaning that the game has no extra value on the 2nd hand market. So no extra TIV for your GOTY games. The plus side is that GOTY and vanilla versions sell at the same price, so if the DLC is located on disc and you find a GOTY version in-store it will be the same price as the vanilla one.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but updates can and do happen at any time. Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Lately some people have been told the policy is 1 game per system (i.e. you could trade in 1 copy of a game for Xbox, 1 for PS3 and 1 for Wii), and have been actively turned down when trading in more than one copy. Whether this is actually something they are banning for or if it is just what employees are being told to follow to limit multiples is unknown. Trade multiples at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually. Yes, this also applies to DS, 3DS, PSP, etc. If you have the manual and artwork you should trade it in though anyway to improve the quality of the selection for people who may want to buy the game in the future (you can't know if the game will be complete when you buy online for example).

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only. Employees have gotten much better about knowing this policy though.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, and some stores apparently accept consoles as well. Call ahead before bringing it in. That said, the TIV for most hardware is lower than competitors.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or even city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll need a (United States) state issued ID or passport.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return. You might even be flat out denied by the employee or manager despite the official rule.

Remember, all trades are technically at the discretion of Best Buy and they can refuse to accept a game for whatever reason they want (outside of you being black, woman, Jewish, etc.).

I totally agree with you cancerman1120. I have a huge backlog due to deals I can't say no to, but when some trade deals come along, I find myself trading the games I bought for cheap. Almost all the time I get my money back I paid, so I am not that upset I never played the games. A lot of them were impulse buys anyway. I did another trade tonight. Traded Turok, Ratchet & Clack A Crack In Time, Red Faction Armageddon, NFS Hot Pursuit, and Darkness II for $54.60. Due to this trade deal, and Best Buy's $20 preorder promotion, my shitty Fall of not having money for games has turned into getting FarCry 3, Dishonored, Medal of Honor, and Black Ops 2 all with trade credit and the $20 RZ coupons from each game, plus having $40 RZ coupons leftover. BB is treating me well lately!
Technically you could've bought the collector's edition for $60 plus tax and sold off everything but the game & bonus disc(artbook is averaging $15-40 on eBay, statue is getting $25-40) and had the game for basically free.

Only problem is the packaging for the game in the CE sucks(cardboard & plastic DVD box set type packaging, manual & map is in a lil slipcover type thing on the other side of that packaging), so I'd have kept the case/artwork & manual from your old copy to swap it out to. My manual from my CE was ripped on the front cover in several places from the moment I opened the CE up.:roll::whistle2:#

Also, how is Dungeon Siege III? I had it once before from when I bought it with an @Gamer coupon for I think $15. But just like many on here it sat in my backlog and I ended up trading it. I've been hoping for a $5-10 sale price on it after @Gamer coupon so I could pick it up again for cheap, but so far that hasn't happened.

As it stands I have Two Worlds II, Skyrim, Dragon Age Origins Ultimate, Dragon Age II and Kingdoms Of Amalur Reckoning sitting in my backlog that I should play as well. Sometimes it just isn't easy being a CAG and seeing all of these insane deals and grabbing them.
I was very pleasantly surprised by Dungeon Siege 3. Combat was fun, character development was good. I was into the story and happy with the length.
I agree with the variety/Amazon bit, but I dont understand the logic with the Visa card/SquareUp app. To me, I'd rather keep the money right on the Visa card and just use that for purchases.
Like I said, the only reason I'd consider the SU app thing is for the possibility that maybe you're reaching for your RZ card or another loyalty card at another store. You don't see the pp Visa drop on the ground. Someone picks it up, that's free money for them, since it's not really tied to you in any way, shape or form.

As for the RPG's, I'm only really interested in action/hack & slash type RPG's, so why I rebought Dragon Age Origins Ultimate is beyond me. I remember being kinda bored with the original very quickly.

I guess I can see that, but thats why I check my surroundings before leaving any store :D
Well if you're that careless, then dont carry cash either.
Don't get me wrong. I usually check to make sure I didn't drop anything. But all it takes is that ONE time when you don't check and you're out X amount. That's why I was looking for any way to get cash off the pp Visas I got a while ago.
Had trouble trading Halo CE Anniversary today. Apparently when they scanned it nothing came up, the same thing happened when they tried to find it by typing the name. I found it strange since it clearly shows that the TIV for it is $10 on their online estimator. Has anyone had any issues like this lately?
Also the system was down yesterday, but when I tried again today Halo and Active Life: Magical Carnival were the only games that did not showed up on their system.
EDIT: I tried to trade them in again today and they both went through. I guess it was just the system malfunctioning.
I tried a trade in today after about a month or so of not doing trades due to getting that ban screen popping up at the end of the last trade I tried. I don't wanna jinx it, but the trade went through.

I got $117.60 total for 6 games after the 100% bonus promo and my 10% for GCU.

I traded in:

:ps3:Rage-$5($10.50 after bonus n GCU)
:ps3:Bulletstorm-$6($12.60 after bonus n GCU)
:ps3:Medal Of Honor-$5($10.50 after bonus n GCU)
:ps3:Skyrim-$17($35.70 after bonus n GCU)
:ps3:Sniper Ghost Warrior-$11($23.10 after bonus n GCU)
:ps3:Batman: Arkham City-$12($25.20 after bonus n GCU)

Both the rep and I were shocked as hell when we got all the way to the end of the trade transaction and it went through. I ended up buying a pristine/mint condition/sealed :ps3:Skyrim CE for $60, a copy of Silent Hill Downpour for $20 and used the one @Gamer coupon to pick up a $5 copy of Dragon Age II. I still have about $30 in credit left on the gc from the trade today.

Best part is most if not all of those games were either PM's or bought with @Gamer coupons and gaming credit and aside from Skyrim I got double what I paid back in credit today for most of them. Even then, I was only off by $4 n change on Skyrim being a free rental since launch cuz I pm'd the $40 price someone had a while ago n got $20 back in credit.:D

But after the ban notice that last time I tried a trade I'm gonna calm shit down and not go overboard again.:whistle2:#
Congrats! When did you get banned? I still get the screen and last time I traded was back in January.
Don't get me wrong. I usually check to make sure I didn't drop anything. But all it takes is that ONE time when you don't check and you're out X amount. That's why I was looking for any way to get cash off the pp Visas I got a while ago.
I haven't had to deal with the Visa's since I was banned in December but I seem to recall if you register your card on their site there was a link to report lost/stolen cards. Plus you can look over the transactions on the card (in case you are waiting for a return to credit, ect.).
I was very pleasantly surprised by Dungeon Siege 3. Combat was fun, character development was good. I was into the story and happy with the length.
DS3 is fun for local co-op. I'll probably buy it back one day.
Congrats! When did you get banned? I still get the screen and last time I traded was back in January.
March was my last trade-in according to the RZ website, though I don't really remember personally. I don't think it was that long ago when I tried and got the banned screen coming up(probably like a month or so ago).

I'm still perplexed by the sudden reversal, but again I'm definitely not complaining. Since if it's a choice between being stuck with games till I try selling em in a lot either on here or eBay or getting rid of stuff I'm not playing while it still has value and being able to pick something else up on the spot, I'd rather the easier of the two outcomes.

Just got back... traded in 14 games, mostly older titles outside of a few newer like MW3, SFxTK, and 2 Vita games... Originally rang up $194.something so i decided to go ahead and get the Unlocked purchased for the extra 10%. Somehow i ended up getting $203 and then had to pay the $14 plus tax for unlocked and walked out with $187.something on the BB GC. I really do suck at math but wtf i got shorted right? Right? Not cool. I went and looked and they didnt have any Visa cards.. i asked about Kindle cards and they said they had no idea if there was any or where they would be. I just got irritated and left for now.

The 10% GCU bump applies to the BASE trade value total, NOT the total after any promo is applied. Not only that but unless you live in Delaware, then I believe they do also charge sales tax on the GCU.

Ahh haha that makes sense. He just said he could get me an extra 10% if i sign up for GCU, so i'm like wow an extra 10%.. $19? Fine. Yeah nevermind hahaha

You still got the mag subscription for about 7-8 bucks which is awesome and worth it from what I can tell from ur post.

You would have to trade in $150 dollars worth of games base for the GCU to be paid off in one transaction.

I take it you've worked for Gamestop before, as that used to be their logic to try and get people to buy/renew the EDGE/PUR card. Well....today only with your trades you're getting this for 'only $6-7'. coughcoughbullshitcoughcough That's why I still see the $14.99 charge on my receipt, right Mr. IfYouDon'tPreOrderThisYoullNeverFindItANYWHERE?

I still prefer the days when EB Games had the EDGE card by itself with no shitrag of a magazine for $5.

It's actually sound logic because if you don't sign up for it, you don't get the 10% so it is actually like getting the magazine for less.

$100 + 10% = $5 for game informer.

I know we all like to rag on GS employees but in this case it's sound logic. It's not like you would get the 10% some other way.

Actually I used to rarely trade anything in or if I did I wasn't very educated about values and promotions and what not. I groan to think of all of the PS1 and Genesis games I gave up for 1/5th what I probably could've ended up with if I had only traded them sooner and stacked the trade with a promotion and/or EDGE when they had some real worth left.

And Best Buy has more value with the 15. If Game Informer started having sick coupons and GS did better exclusive deals then I might consider renewing, but when Target had the trade 2 get $20 coup i spent about $16 and didnt want to spend another 15 to get about 1-2 dollars more saved. Although GS has had some coupons with the points, but I dont shop there much unless its an insane glitch so I dont get too many points or renew my card.

And yes, you're bad at math but you can use the @gamer mag to get the rest of your money back on 1-2 flips. Please tell me that you at least got your free issue of the mag.
I have no idea what that has to do with the deal on game informer except to tell another story.

smh. i give up.
I was simply trying to relay the fact that up till maybe 5-6 years ago I didn't actually trade in games where I was able to fully take advantage of the 10%. As such, the $15 pricetag was too high for my liking.
Please tell me that you at least got your free issue of the mag.
Is that issue technically free? The employee who processed my order today forgot to scan this month's issue, and asked another employee about it, who said something to the effect that I can either get my first issue now or wait to get it in the mail.

So there are some items not on the trade-in value estimator. Recent items, like Disgaea 3 for the PS Vita. Do they still take those? And if they do, anyone have an idea on value I'd get?

Anything not listed has a random $1 TIV assigned to it. No joke. You just have to wait for it to be entered into the system....

Took me about a year before I realized how stupidly I was tossing away money on things I never used. Being a CAG is perfectly well and good, but when you start overbuying because something is cheap, then you're not being very frugal in the long run.

This. Although its tough to resist a deal, it happened to me until i finally killed my backlog recently. Still probably have about 20 good games i havent played yet that i held onto, but no more stocking up (especially on newer expensive titles). Im ok with having 1 or 2 waiting on my shelf but anything more is just stupid. Time to actually play these.
1) Buy cheap games - 2) set them on shelf and never play - 3) trade in to best buy - 4) use credit on step one and repeat cycle
This is brilliant, cause that's exactly what I realized I was doing for a while. Stopped myself this time and used my credit to buy a mouse and some amazon kindle cards for a SSD. It's funny, though, because some of the cheap cheap games I bought and barely played through, I actually ended up making a few bucks on them after trading them in. I always figure buying games at $10 is pretty safe because at the very least, you can USUALLY get $5 back for them in the future, if not $10. Although games like Rage and Brink don't seem to fall under that category.
1) Buy cheap games - 2) set them on shelf and never play - 3) trade in to best buy - 4) use credit on step one and repeat cycle
I used to do this when I first found CAG. Now I'm far more hesitant to purchase games than I use to be. Atleast I didn't get ripped off too bad when I did this.

Does anyone else not trade games and just keep them ? I do, well probably bc I'm never in a situation where I need to trade games in for credit to buy more games such a silly idea.

So why are you in this thread?
What are you guys buying with all the BB credit after the trade ins?
Kindle Cards for me...Amazon is the best place to shop.
Kindle Cards for me...Amazon is the best place to shop.
I agree and I purchased over 200 in amazon gift cards myself as well. A couple of days ago I had a conversation with one of the BB reps, he told me BB keeps an eye on customers who trade in games only to buy visa gift cards and such (basically not buying anything from the store). He mentioned that it's one of the reasons why BB bans people, not sure if that's true but definitely something to keep in mind.

That got me thinking, if you buy gift cards without your reward zone info can they still track your purchases?

they will still be able to see which bb gift card you used to buy the kindle cards. and of course they can see how you got the bb gift card in the first place. paranoia!

Saving up for a new laptop. Hopefully BB starts offering the free 4GB Xbox promo soon so I can sell that online.

Don't believe. That's all I've ever purchased and no issues for me. Best buy bans those they deem as "dealers" who do large volumes of games. Think about it. You could run an online site or local shop and effectively flip your inventory to credit then to newer inventory. I wouldn't worry too much about bans at the normal level.
What are you guys buying with all the BB credit after the trade ins?
I got $88 for 4 games. Used $60 to buy the Skyrim CE (had traded in vanilla Skyrim to upgrade), then bought Halo 3 at $9.99 and put a preorder on Halo 4 for the litho. Once I cancel that I'll have $18 in credit which I'll use on a couple DVD's most likely.

I wish I could trade in more but everything else in my 360 library (I only have 15-20 games) are games I either want to keep or the TIV is too low to really justify it when I know I'll want to play them again in the future.

It's funny that you mentioned that, because the guy kept asking me if I was a "dealer" which I told him no lol. He said the limit for trade ins of any games was 3 per year, so I traded in 3 games, after that he mentioned that whenever you trade in 3 of the same game you have a higher risk of being banned.

Same here. Traded mostly old games that got $1-$4. Like Conan, Bionic, Etc. I also traded in some ds games that i got last year from Best buy during the B2G1 free. Ds games were $2.99 so I broke even on the ds games and kept 2. The games I kept was games that I still like Fallout NV, Gears 1 & 2, Tales of vesperia, star ocean last hope, etc. I think I only have like 20 games for xbox. FYI- Sears had viva pinata DS for $.97 each and Guitar Hero Warriors of rock xbox 360 for $3.97. viva gets $3 each=$6 and WoR gets $7=$14

didn't bb participate in the free xbox promo with purchase of selected laptop last year? so i think it could still happen, you just have to wait

I usually do the same, but this double value offer is just too much to pass up. Trading Black Ops for $10 at GameStop doesn't make much sense to me, but getting $24 is too much to pass up.

Also got $12 for Madden 11 and $36 for Modern Warfare 3. In the end, I'm glad I held on to my games because it paid off in the long run.

I've been gaming since the atari so there's no way all those systems/games are gonna be left around junking up the place.
What are you guys buying with all the BB credit after the trade ins?
well, since you can use them on everything in the store & BB sell thousands of items the possiblities are endless. Wanna a TV, Ipad/Ipod, cellphone, PC, laptop, fridge, AC & don't forget all the accessories to go with the stuff. There will never be a time that I can't find something to buy from BB.

Sorry if this was covered already, but has anyone traded in Madden 12 hall of fame? Do they give you the value of regular Madden 12 for it? That would be fine by me, but they have different UPCs and the HOF edition isn't listed on BBs site.
