Get $20 trade-in Credit when you trade 4 or more games (Current gen games only (no PS2) and $5 minimum for each game). Offer valid 10/2/11 - 10/08/11**** This promo was cancelled early due to technical issues. There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracked on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone/Android app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

How come the GOTY/complete version doesn't show up in the estimator?
Best Buy doesn't differentiate between the vanilla and GOTY/complete versions of a game. This is largely a cover-all policy due to the fact that many GOTY editions include the game's DLC and bonus content as one-time use codes; meaning that the game has no extra value on the 2nd hand market. So no extra TIV for your GOTY games. The plus side is that GOTY and vanilla versions sell at the same price, so if the DLC is located on disc and you find a GOTY version in-store it will be the same price as the vanilla one.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but updates can and do happen at any time. Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Lately some people have been told the policy is 1 game per system (i.e. you could trade in 1 copy of a game for Xbox, 1 for PS3 and 1 for Wii), and have been actively turned down when trading in more than one copy. Whether this is actually something they are banning for or if it is just what employees are being told to follow to limit multiples is unknown. Trade multiples at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually. Yes, this also applies to DS, 3DS, PSP, etc. If you have the manual and artwork you should trade it in though anyway to improve the quality of the selection for people who may want to buy the game in the future (you can't know if the game will be complete when you buy online for example).

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only. Employees have gotten much better about knowing this policy though.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, and some stores apparently accept consoles as well. Call ahead before bringing it in. That said, the TIV for most hardware is lower than competitors.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or even city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll need a (United States) state issued ID or passport.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return. You might even be flat out denied by the employee or manager despite the official rule.

Remember, all trades are technically at the discretion of Best Buy and they can refuse to accept a game for whatever reason they want (outside of you being black, woman, Jewish, etc.).
I can't decide if God of War: Origins Collection is worth trading in, since I bought it in like new condition for $10, and the base TIV is $10. It's a good deal whether I keep it or trade it in.
Sell it on eBay / craigslist.

That depends. Did you buy it at BB for $10 in credit or $10 in cash elsewhere? If you don't mind BB credit, since the tiv is $10 base that means you'd get $21 after 100% promo & 10% GCU bump.

I bought it from someone's collection. This is one of those situations where, I'm on the fence, because I think the collection is worth keeping for the price, and I don't see myself picking it up again for sub-$10 like I did the previous collection at Blockbuster.

Honestly, once I'm done with a game I will never want to play it again EVER except for sandbox type titles usually, so that's when I used to dump off games to GS. I'm not really one to have a 'collection' of games, but I know everybody is different on that.

To me, the only time I keep a game anymore is if it has no value anywhere or if I paid too much for it initially and the value for it has tanked to a ridiculous level by the time I'm ready to unload it.

Case in point: Kingdoms Of Amalur: Reckoning. I paid MSRP for it with BB credit soon after launch. Although I do believe I did PM it down to $40 later on, that's still way too high for something that now would barely break the $20 threshold with the current 100% promo at BB for trade.

That's probably a smarter way to game in terms of getting the most for your buck. I guess, for me, I generally play with the intent to keep my games. As a result, I'm probably more choosy about what I play (or keep) and cycle through fewer games than some CAGs.

Sandboxes are probably my favorite type of game.
Sandboxes are probably my favorite type of game.
They're my favorite as well, since I can usually find something to do, even if I'm not doing the side missions or main storyline missions in them. I've probably played as many hours in GTA's online as some have played in games like Skyrim and Oblivion and possibly even as many hours as some have sunk into games like World Of Warcraft.

Are there any good tie-in deals with this? I am going to swing by in the morning with hopefully about $100 of old junk and I'd like to stretch it out as far as possible. Looking at Lego Batman 2 on 360 for one.
But why would you want to trade in the CE contents? They don't give you anything extra for it, so why bother giving them everything when they more than likely won't sell those extra items with the game once it's processed and shipped back to stores?

But the only reason you really got the $34 was because of the 100% promo, which is the only one on the system right now. So the original tiv for Skyrim was $17. I know because I traded mine in a few weeks ago in order to upgrade to the CE.;) I got $35.70 though cuz of the 10% GCU bump.:D
Lol I know, that's my whole point. I traded in $34 because of the 100% promo and what I found ironic was that right next to us they had the game on sale for $34.99.

I didn't want to trade it in with my CE stuff, lol that would be absurd. :p
Are you trying to trade in your ME3 game? They should take it. I've traded collector edition games. There isn't anything extra on the disc dispite saying collector on it so it's why they could take it in.

i traded in me3 ce discs only before no prob.
Really? Awesome, Since the ME3 CE disc is different to the vanilla one I thought they wouldn't accept games that specifically said "Collectors Edition" on them. I'm going to have to give it a shot then. Already beat the game and everything but I really wanted the goodies so I bought it for $33 on Amazon (hopefully it comes complete) but want to get rid of the disc only since I don't really care about it.
Went in today to try trading some games. Its been since I believe November since my ban. Alas, I am still banned. You got really lucky IATCG.
Do you know why you were banned?

Also is it true you can only trade in 50 games a year?

no idea. I've called the number they give yiu and they don't tell you why you are banned, just that you have broken one or more of the guidelines or w/e but I'm sure it was from trading in more then 3 of a title. Not all at once, but overall. I also traded in way more then 50 games so that could be it too.

Thanks. I always get worried hearing other people's stories. Ive only ever trade in 2 of the same games and I have no idea Ive traded total since last year but I mainly give my games to BB over Amazon bc of their deals
^ ur trade in history can be found on ur bb rz account.
Unfortunately it's not your COMPLETE trade in history though. Otherwise I'd probably check there before doing anymore attempted trades. As it stands I wanna get rid of the Uncharted trilogy, but I'm fairly certain I had the first two games at least 2x before and traded them in there both times and I traded in my original copy of Uncharted 3 there earlier this year.

So I suppose I'm SOL as of now and can't trade them in. That kinda sucks, since I don't feel I'll ever play them again. Then again, I never played Uncharted 3 all the way through to begin with.:whistle2:#

Yeah. I definitely should. But I didn't expect to be able to do that last trade I did. So any record I had of what I had already traded got thrown out after I got the banned notice.

I see that CoD MW3 is up to $16. It had dropped to $15. I wish I'd traded it in at $17, but I think I'll take the $16x2. Probably it will then go up to $18.

I have only traded in once at Best Buy and I had two questions that hopefully some of you guys with Best Buy experience can answer.
The 100% bonus in store is good til 7/7?
I had thought it was ending 7/1 and was planning a trip on Saturday to trade in 4 games.
Also I keep all my games in mint condition ( I slit the plastic wrapping and put the box back in) but I have one game with no box or book and someone told me Best Buy takes games missing things like boxes, covers and books. Is this true that I could trade in this game.I have never in my 17 years of trading in games ever traded in a game missing anything.
Thanks for the info guys

As long as the disc doesn't look like it's been chewed on by a corgi, you should be fine.

I plan on completing Spec Ops to get the platinum within the next week so I hope it doesnt drop too much before this is over

hey how is spec ops the line? is it worth the msrp price , or more of a rent. Also how is the multiplayer? is it like uncharted 3 multiplayer?

Does anyone know if Best Buy will take the copy of Motorstorm: Apocalypse included in the Playstation 3D display bundle? On the back of the case, it states "not for resale", so I'm unsure if they will take it.

You dont need the case to trade a game in

He meant Spec Ops on MW3.

Will Best Buy take my copy of Guitar Hero Van Halen (which I got for free with GH5) if it has no case and says "Not for Resale" on it?

They took my Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock that said the same thing. He was about to scan it when he saw the "Not for Resale" logo and then he just entered it manually.

It says so right in the OP's FAQ.

I just spent an hour at Best Buy while they tried to get the biometric thumb print to work. Finally they called tech suppost. Just an FYI for anyone that may have the same issue: pressing F1, F3, and F5 at once brought up a menu that was able to reset it. Finished everything up in under a minute after the reset

Big thanks to BudzMcGee and everybody else who posted about the 100% bonus on trade. Went back today and sold back several recently finished games.

Bought the new Amazing Spiderman for $4 after my trades. Thanks again.

Lollipop Chainsaw went up (amazingly) to $16, so $32 with bonus. Considering everyone is selling it for $40 new, I'm not even going to bother trying to sell it used now.

I wish I could've taken a picture, I had three BB employes standing around the screen trying to process my twelve game trade. How many blue shirts does it take to get to the center of a trade in? The world may never know.

Traded in a bunch of catalog titles and some GS to BB flips. Got home and realized that Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition didn't get scanned. Am I screwed since I signed on the dotted line and left the store? Or is this something BB may actually fix if I go back in?

*sigh* 21 games. Wouldn't care if they missed a $3 flip from GS, but Arcade Edition still has some actual value :whistle2:(

Call them. They put all of the games in a little box and empty it at night. They should be able to see they left it out of the transaction if you show them your receipt.

Store closed at 9, but I'll give them a ring first thing in the morning. Hopefully the manager or someone notices the discrepancy tonight and will be chill dealing with it tomorrow.

This exact thing happened to me, call them, if possible around the same time you did the trade-in.

I called and got transferred to the Game Kiosk person, told him about how I went earlier that day to get some games traded in and that I had 1 game unaccounted for that I didn't get the TiV for. He found it right away and told me to come back the next day and that he'd be able to fix the issue, yup sure enough everything came out just fine.

This happen to me too. the BB employee called me as he saw the game was missing a trade in form. (Ive learn to make sure to review the papers before signing anything now.)

I'm confused, all the top trade-ins are recent deals of the day that were NOT at a value that would create any profit. Are people forgoing tax, time and gas to flip these at a loss for reward zone points?

Maybe people bought them on a Sunday(ala SSX & SC V), played them a bunch up until the middle of the week and then dumped them back off by Weds/Thurs and considered them cheap rentals?

Not everybody lives 30-40 minutes from their BB stores either. Mine is about a 10 minute drive going expressway/highway and main roads most of the way. But anymore, even with the gas prices dropping to around $3.13 a gallon, unless I'm up in the area for something else I won't make a special trip to go there.

As for the missing games from trade-ins, I usually stick around and shoot the shit with the employees after the transaction is done. That way if they missed one, they'll notice there's no slip for that one and I won't have to make a return trip. But usually if I were doing a large trade in, both the employees and I would count up the number of games on the trade desk to be sure they didn't miss one. So as of now I don't think I've ever had to go back into the store because of a missed trade.
I look up the TiVs before I walk in so I know if the total is right when they give it to me.
But some of the values have been off compared to the value look up tool on their website. That's why it helps to double check them in store and/or really pay attention when they're doing the trade-ins.

Quick question, when you guys do GS to BB flips, do you guys keep the games in the GS cases? Or do you guys just trade it game only? Thanks in advance for any replies!

It's possible on some to be played but many like NCAA 12 are instantly jumping to the top and at a loss of the things I mentioned, money, gas and time.

should i trade in MW3, Battlefield 3, blacks ops, dark sector, Midnight los angelos? i figure if i don't play them or atleast for while i might as well trade them. until i play them again they might get cheaper. what do you guys think.

When they come from Gamestop with stickers, I'll remove them carefully so they are intact and place them somewhere just in case any trade in values drop at best buy and I decide not to trade it in but return it instead. But this is only if the games came with their original case. If I get a game with a generic black case, I'll just remove Gamestops shitty cover and leave the game in its black case. At least this way you won't be walking in there with a stack of loose discs.

When I was doing GS to BB flips, I was typically making sure the games I was grabbing were complete and in great shape. Then all you need to do is remove the GS stickers and you should be good.
