Get $20 trade-in Credit when you trade 4 or more games (Current gen games only (no PS2) and $5 minimum for each game). Offer valid 10/2/11 - 10/08/11**** This promo was cancelled early due to technical issues. There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracked on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone/Android app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

How come the GOTY/complete version doesn't show up in the estimator?
Best Buy doesn't differentiate between the vanilla and GOTY/complete versions of a game. This is largely a cover-all policy due to the fact that many GOTY editions include the game's DLC and bonus content as one-time use codes; meaning that the game has no extra value on the 2nd hand market. So no extra TIV for your GOTY games. The plus side is that GOTY and vanilla versions sell at the same price, so if the DLC is located on disc and you find a GOTY version in-store it will be the same price as the vanilla one.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but updates can and do happen at any time. Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Lately some people have been told the policy is 1 game per system (i.e. you could trade in 1 copy of a game for Xbox, 1 for PS3 and 1 for Wii), and have been actively turned down when trading in more than one copy. Whether this is actually something they are banning for or if it is just what employees are being told to follow to limit multiples is unknown. Trade multiples at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually. Yes, this also applies to DS, 3DS, PSP, etc. If you have the manual and artwork you should trade it in though anyway to improve the quality of the selection for people who may want to buy the game in the future (you can't know if the game will be complete when you buy online for example).

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only. Employees have gotten much better about knowing this policy though.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, and some stores apparently accept consoles as well. Call ahead before bringing it in. That said, the TIV for most hardware is lower than competitors.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or even city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll need a (United States) state issued ID or passport.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return. You might even be flat out denied by the employee or manager despite the official rule.

Remember, all trades are technically at the discretion of Best Buy and they can refuse to accept a game for whatever reason they want (outside of you being black, woman, Jewish, etc.).

Anyone recommend any games to flip from GameStops B2G1 to best buy? I am looking to preorder Assassins Creed 3, and would rather get the $20 reward zone cert.
should i trade in MW3, Battlefield 3, blacks ops, dark sector, Midnight los angelos? i figure if i don't play them or atleast for while i might as well trade them. until i play them again they might get cheaper. what do you guys think.
Honestly your the only one that can answer that. But yes, that's what I do. I had like 14 games in my backlog from last years deals, and since I knew I wouldn't have time to play all of them. I got rid of them all, figured I'd clear my backlog and buy the ones I really care about once they go back on sale.
When I was doing GS to BB flips, I was typically making sure the games I was grabbing were complete and in great shape. Then all you need to do is remove the GS stickers and you should be good.
Speaking of GS to BB flips... I went to the local GS yesterday for the B2G1 and the guy at the counter showed me a 3 page list someone had brought in for flips to Best Buy. It was pretty funny since the GS employee had asked the guy if he could keep it to do some flips himself. I wonder if the flipper is aware of the bans Best Buy throws out...

I can't really hate on the flipper since most of the games were pure crap that Best Buy just happened to give decent values for with the promo.

It's really frustrating that they'd give $22 for Minute to Win It, but $1 on quality games that don't show up in their list, like say, Hexyz Force.

$119!!! trade in!

yay!:whee:

The disc that came with the Udraw tablet wasn't found so I got a dollar for it, but the Wii version shows up in their system...hmm...

Gonna use this credit to buy TNG S1 HD at the end of July! :p

oh talked to Reward Zone and they did confirm that I am suppose have points posted to my account from trades, but it's not showing up so they have to research my account for the trade ins.......argh...

Agreed, :applause:.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if I got banned.
I tried sticking to the 3x game, per console route but alas if they really have a 50 Game limit then I cross that threshold awhile ago.

Is there a 50 game limit? I also have crossed that point a long long time ago.

The Irvine store gave me the same business about the thumbprint machine being down. Told me to go to another store. Amateur hour.

That was a rumor awhile back but never confirmed.
They also said they changed the 3 game per console limit to 1...but I dunno it depends on when they do their mass bans I guess?

Yeah. Especially if they happen to go to the 3x limit on everything like some of us were before. It's not so bad if you space it out over multiple trades, but coming in with 3 of everything and not even trying to make an excuse for it is not the way to fly under the radar.

As for the 3 per title per console limit, according to Mariel at the BB forums it IS still 3 per title per console. But according to the store closest to me, it's down to 1 per title per console now.

So the best advice I have is to ASK the reps in store regarding their limit for that specific store.

well, it is not really bad for them anyway. by abusing the system, they are made their profit, so in a way, it is still a win a win for them

So let me get this straight, if you're an Unlocked Member, you get twice the trade-in value, plus twice the total value!?

Because I just went in, expected A LOT less than what I got. example...

Uncharted 3
Trade-in Value = $10
100% promotion = $10
2x Promotion = $20
10% Unlocked = $1
...ended up selling UC3 for $41! Was this a glitch? Cause I plan on going back and selling another 20 games :D

That definitely didn't happen for me when I went in with five games this afternoon.

I'm not sure what happened. I asked if they could read me the values first, they scanned each one, then when they did the trade-in they rescanned them...but on the receipt, I see no mention of 2 games being scanned.

What does it say for each game on your print out?

I looked up Lumines on the Vita at work and it said TIV was $16... wow really? I went into the store and the cashier was like hmm nope sorry it says $11 in our system, you must be looking at something else. I pulled it up on my phone and then had them pull it up on the web there. Sure enough, $16... but he said he couldn't adjust the TIV. He brought two manager/supervisor types over and i finally was like... hmm well since i'm planning on using this credit to buy a new game right now anyway, could you at least take $10 off the price of the game? They wanted to give me $22 but online said i would get $32. One of the managers said uhhh that's like a $4 difference compared to online, yeah we can do that. So the cashier gave me $5 off Arkham City GOTY and with $20 in rewards certificates i paid like $3 or $4 out of pocket.
Anyone know what Pikmin 2 trades in for? It doesn't show up on their website
If it doesn't show up, it's likely they won't take the trade in just for that. Is it the GC version, or the Wii version. The GC version sell for $40 online easy (I sold mine last night for that on Amazon used, so I'm getting the Wii version).
Has anyone been successful in getting un-banned? Have they updated their policies to reflect how long the ban would be?
From what I've read, you have to wait a year after your ban. Then they review your file/account to determine if they want to life the ban.

TiV: $10
100% Promo: $10
Subtotal: $20
10% GCU: $2 (This gets added AFTER the subtotal.)

Total: $22

So you lucked out with a dumb employee, don't expect that to be happening again anytime soon.. unless you get the same employee lol.

Just traded in some games that would have netted me about $63 at GAmestop and about $75 at Amazon. Got $145 for them at Best buy. Pre-ordered games that are on the $20 coupon list. Black Ops 2, Borderlands 2, Assassins Creed 3, RE6, NBA 2k13. After the $25 total I put down ($5 for each) still have $120 left, plus another $160 in gift cards there, plus $30 as of NOW in rewards certs, and each game will net me an extra $100. So ill be riding that credit out there for a bit. Awesome Promo.

Yup, it's a massive wave of credit after credit. Now I'm really getting into the CAG rhythm. I feel bad when I have to shell out real cash for a game now instead of credit, haha.

Actually it should be $21.

x = Base value
2.1x = TIV

x = $10
2.1($10) = $21

I know I am going to be berated for posting math again.

I spend cash on games but only to flip them honestly. I probably sen $300 out of pocket in a whole year. I flip alot. My wife loves garage sales and rummage sales at churches. So we go and I get games for $1-$2 and sell them for ALOT more than that or trade them in for alot more. I once got a BLACK LABEL FF7 for $5. Sold it for well over $150, this was before it was released on PSN so the value on ebay was very good. I get alot of cheapies at Target or BJ's or Sams Wholesale club, keep them sealed and sell em on craigslist for 4-5 times what I paid.

I have never once paid full value either for live. The most I've ever paid is $35. Gotta love CAG

Not sure what exactly you are trying to correct though :whistle2:k. The way you did it is the way I thought BB added up the total, so you would be right. You are simply adding up the Promo + GCU for 110%.

But like I said in my post, the 10% gets added after the total from the TiV & Promo, or at least in my case thats how they did it on all my games. So read my post again, basically after you get the $20 from Base TiV + Promo. You then do 0.10($20) = $22.

So it's definitely $2.

Ah, good ol' FFVII. I also sold mine for $56 (Greatest Hits) version.

Can someone who traded in over the last 2-3 days check their reward zone account and see if the trade is properly reflected in your pending points? My count was right yesterday, but my points vanished into this air overnight.

I'm figuring it's either 1) a bug or 2) because I got banned and my points were revoked.

My trade in from the 28th is showing up in my pending points. Hopefully it's just a bug, because that would suck if they take your points away when they ban you...

hmm Where is your store, so we can all get the extra trade in bonus? 99.9% BB stores in the country do it the way I posted.

Thanks man, I'm surprised it isn't on there yet, although it did come out recently. I never played Pikmin 2 but was considering picking it up from TRU and possibly trading it in after playing it a bit, is it a really good game?

Yup, you're right. I have my trade in print out from Best Buy and it's showing
Quoted Cart: 13.50
Promotion Value: 13.50
Reward Zone Gamers Club [Unlocked]: 1.35
Total Value: 28.35

It just gave me the 10% bonus on the original trade in value, not after promos. Sounds like he got lucky.

Lol or more like 99.9% (which is a debatable assumption) does the trade-ins correctly while my store and the store mywhitenoise visited fucked up the trade-in and did it incorrectly? Since I've only done 1 trade-in at BB I was under the safe belief that they added the 10% after the total TiV + Promo, If I still had my papers I'd take a pic just to show you what they did.

I do still recall it was:

TiV Total: $108
Promo: $108
GCU: $21.60

However he hadn't applied the 10% GCU so I asked, and the guy told me it had already been applied, which wasn't true. So we had to go over to the customer service desk to check over what happened and that's when they reapplied the 10% GCU and got $21.60 extra.

Btw if you really care, it's the one at N Central Expy in Dallas.

Right, but you were correcting somone saying that they were wrong, when you in fact were also wrong. Your store was a YMMV situation. Stores that do it properly via the trade in system will payout in the manner I posted.

Didn't you quote me only to correct my "math"? When did I ever say that someone was "wrong"? This exactly how arguments start . I was speaking in the general idea that what they did with my transaction was actually the way BB did it, in other words. Add the 10% after they finalize the transaction.

I posted about my trade-in a few weeks ago and no one said a thing when I told them they added the 10% after the subtotal, so figured that the BB employees did everything by the book.

I simply told whitenoise that his transaction was definitely a screw up from the employee. Quite ironic really, since I never would have realized that they also screwed up my transaction. Until MunchnOnDoritos chimed in. Glad they did though. :)

Re read the posts. I am correcting everyone's math, so people who are looking to trade in know how the value should be calculated. I am just putting out the correct information.
