Get $20 trade-in Credit when you trade 4 or more games (Current gen games only (no PS2) and $5 minimum for each game). Offer valid 10/2/11 - 10/08/11**** This promo was cancelled early due to technical issues. There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracked on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone/Android app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

How come the GOTY/complete version doesn't show up in the estimator?
Best Buy doesn't differentiate between the vanilla and GOTY/complete versions of a game. This is largely a cover-all policy due to the fact that many GOTY editions include the game's DLC and bonus content as one-time use codes; meaning that the game has no extra value on the 2nd hand market. So no extra TIV for your GOTY games. The plus side is that GOTY and vanilla versions sell at the same price, so if the DLC is located on disc and you find a GOTY version in-store it will be the same price as the vanilla one.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but updates can and do happen at any time. Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Lately some people have been told the policy is 1 game per system (i.e. you could trade in 1 copy of a game for Xbox, 1 for PS3 and 1 for Wii), and have been actively turned down when trading in more than one copy. Whether this is actually something they are banning for or if it is just what employees are being told to follow to limit multiples is unknown. Trade multiples at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually. Yes, this also applies to DS, 3DS, PSP, etc. If you have the manual and artwork you should trade it in though anyway to improve the quality of the selection for people who may want to buy the game in the future (you can't know if the game will be complete when you buy online for example).

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only. Employees have gotten much better about knowing this policy though.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, and some stores apparently accept consoles as well. Call ahead before bringing it in. That said, the TIV for most hardware is lower than competitors.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or even city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll need a (United States) state issued ID or passport.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return. You might even be flat out denied by the employee or manager despite the official rule.

Remember, all trades are technically at the discretion of Best Buy and they can refuse to accept a game for whatever reason they want (outside of you being black, woman, Jewish, etc.).

I see it is $9.99 is GS and trades for $13.00 at BB. With the extra 60% TIV that is still only $20.80. Is there something I'm missing?

No you're not. For some reason he decided to post a trade in bonus that expired already.

Your math is correct.

No your not missing anything, your right. What s(he) meant is that the TiV that HydroX posted was during the past promo which was for 100% and not 50% which is the current promo.

Traded in a few games today, and went to take advantage of the B2G1F on used games. The guy working at the game area and I started chatting a bit, and he was super nice. I asked if the $5 off GCU coupon worked on top of the B2G1, and he said no, but said he'd take $5 off a game for me. I picked out three games, and when he started scanning them, something magical happened...

Prince of Persia - Marked $12.99, rang up at $4.99 (free game)
Tomb Raider: Underworld - $7.99
Crysis 2 - Marked $24.99, rang up $17.99, dropped $5 to $12.99

After the 10% off on top, all three games came out to $21.74.

Thank you, very very nice Best Buy employee.

Guess you got lucky. I wanted to use the $5 pre-owned coupon on the newly lowered Kinect Disneyland Adventures ($19.99 NEW MSRP). Sadly, BB is slow to update used prices and it rang up for a whopping $34.99 USED. Blasphemy!

You skipped passed the other writings. It's 50%. Still a good deal.

Fixed. And, you are correct.

That $4.99 Xbox 360 Rabbids game must have dropped from $8 base, yesterday. Might be a game to buy 1 or 2 of for after the sale.

Got Twisted Metal after buying 2 of those, trading them in for $25.xx total, and using that $40 off coupon I had in my RZ account. Not Limited Edition, but for $10, w/e.

You're doing it wrong. You were supposed to buy it when it was the normal price, trade them in the same day and then PM down to the $5 price on Sunday for RR: A&K.
You're doing it wrong. You were supposed to buy it when it was the normal price, trade them in the same day and then PM down to the $5 price on Sunday for RR: A&K.
:whistle2:# No. Lol.

As much as I've been buying, I should have a ton of $10 gcs by now. But, it has to be $50 at once. Oh well.:joystick:

I don't know if this is a point of contention anymore, but while I was trading in games today, the BBY rep told me that the limit is 3 of any title across all platforms.

As I am the hoarding and flipping walrus in West Phoenix and surrounding areas, I finally got banned at both my surrounding stores as a violator of BB's trade in program. I've actually traded in several (way over 10) of the same titles on same platform and actually started to buy used copies of skyrim on both 360 and ps3 at best buy with their b2g1f promo. They'd ring me up in trade in kiosk, and I would just trade it in not even leaving the store. One of the managers ( did this several time, occasions, locations ) got so annoyed of what I was doing and printed out a copy of the SOP rules of the trade in program. She just highlighted the limit of one title period regardless of platform. I asked for a copy of the rules and stated that it was an internal memo and that I could not be provided with one. She tried to make me out as a criminal and stated she didn't want me to enter the store anymore. To end this story I was asked to leave the store, and would put my ID on a black list. Oh well, my wife and family will do my trade ins and then buying my amazon gift cards now with the trade credit.

Geez, wonder y u got ban. R u expecting a :applause: for ur ordeal? Dont get me wrong, I'm a flipper myself but that is wayyy overboard.

:shock:Just wow! Someone else mentioned buying games then going directly to the trade in center of the same store:shock:! I can't figure out if that's DUMB, bold, a slap in the face, or all of the above!!!!!!

Well deserved ban, so I guess this is the part where you say "Pfff Best Buy sucks! I rather spend my money at Amazon"? Dude you went way overboard, hell I don't even flip but if I did I'd make sure to buy it and at least wait a day or two before going back and trading it (even if the TiV plummets a bit) since I wouldn't want it to look too obvious on my RZ Account. Going in, buying the game and straight out trading it in is just plain ridiculous.

"actually started to buy used copies of skyrim on both 360 and ps3 at best buy with their b2g1f promo. They'd ring me up in trade in kiosk, and I would just trade it in not even leaving the store. "

@ $45 per used copy and $20 base TIV it should cost you about $81 (plus tax) to buy 3 copies and get $96 back in trade, assuming you have unlocked. after tax you are probably only making less than $10 per set of 3?

Thinking of trading something in, just so I can justify preordering Borderlands 2 on 360, when I could get it for way cheaper on PC through a group buy. Not sure why I want the 360 version and not the PC version.

That's a sad, sad story. Hope you're just trollin.

Reminds me of one of my friend's. I flipped a lot during the blockbuster --> Gamestop days of flippin. I stopped after that once I calculated what I was paying for gas and time. Flippin just aint worth it unless you're a college student who only works 15 hrs a week getting paid $9/hr. Sure, once in a while is fine if its a good enough profit. i.e. A copy of Diablo 3 CE or when BB has a really good TIV and big bonus.

I stopped but he didn't. He got so deep into the whole flip game that he became one of those people that preorders every big release multiple times from multiple retailers to get the preorder codes. Literally maxes out his CC doing this, then sells all the codes on ebay from $5-$15, sometimes the really rare ones go for more like Halo ones. He doesn't really profit that much from it since you cant buy that many games, $64ish each, on his CCs. Then all the time it takes to go to multiple gamestops and such to return all the games. Like the person above he got banned from multiple stores for doing this sort of thing. Not sure how long he can keep up the buy 20 games every few months and then return all of them. He does live in SoCal so there are a lot of stores he can go to.

Anyways, to eveyone flippin. Do it in moderation. You'll only feel worse about the time you've spent once you go over that line. If you're getting a little profit and you follow the rules the store's publicly present to you that's great. You might be some college freshman who cant afford to buy Halo 4 because you dont have a job. Most on here seem to keep it civil though, but once in a while a post by someone bragging about snatching up the last 10 collector's editions of a game or that they got in a fight at a store with the employee because they wouldn't take their trade in of 5 sealed games they ordered on amazon really just bum me out.

Haha bravo bravo :applause:! Excellent post, that's the way I see it myself.

I'm a college student myself, work 30 hours a week but I just don't quite see the point in wasting my time driving from store to store just to flip for $20-30, to me it's just not a big enough profit, and if I wanted a big enough profit that made it worth the time + drive, I'd probably eventually get flagged for bringing 2-3 copies of several games. I rather trade in whatever games are in my backlog that I know I won't ever play and keep it simple. The 100% for BB was actually my first trade ever, and really happy how that turned out so I rather just wait for good opportunities like that to keep this habit going.

The Diablo 3 CE was a great example of this, I personally didn't care about the little wings and all that other digital crap since it doesn't affect the way you play the game, plus I don't play WoW or SC so I sold the CE DVD for $170 and was lucky to score a D3 on CL for $20, so even though the game sucked I felt much happier knowing I didn't waste anything out of my pocket in the end for it.

I think some CAGers just don't think it through fully, like when you have to drive 30 minutes to pick up an item when you could just pay $3.xx shipping for it to come to you. Sure, if you have to commute that way then that's fine, but seems like several go out of their way to actually drive there just for the game and then go back home thinking they saved themselves some money.

Eh it works for some people. Like I'm in college and my summer job I only make $10 an hour and am on the computer all day. I work about two minutes from a mall where there is two gamestops and one best buy. I also then pass a gamestop on the way home live 4 min from another best buy and that best buy is two minutes from another gamestop. So with all those in such close proxmity it works out especially when I eat lunch at the mall whenever I need to stop there. I probally have made over $200 from flipping just this summer and I don't do it that often. Its not much but its an extra $200 minus probally the 50 bucks I've spent in gas. And I defiently haven't spent anywhere near 15 hours doing everything so it all works out. Plus I enjoy it so there is something to be said for that.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I also adhere to all rules and have never traded in multiple copies. Although we will see if that 50 game limit is true because I did trade in almost my entire backlog.

Just my opinion but I think most of the people that get banned trade a lot more than they say they do or are like the previous poster who buy and trade on the same trip to the store. I would be shocked it someone who trades a little over 50 a year (spread out) would be banned.

You must be the reason I can hardly find anything at the 5 GS of the 101 from Peoria to Avondale!

i don't want to sound like a broke record, but most ppl who got banned traded in multiples of the same game. That is one criteria for getting banned that has already been established and confirmed. it does not matter if you trade within the 3 limit or not

Well, I flip just for kicks most of the time. I'm a medical professional, so I make enough money to purchase games full price. It's just the exhillaration of legally manipulating a trade in system, pissing people off, or just the thrill of the hunt of finding a great deal. The only time I felt kind of bad was when I bought 40 Batman Arkham City copies at BB when they were $9.99 with that coupon. I just used one coupon and the associate was gullible enough to follow my instructions of scanning the same coupon 40 times. Then I flipped them all to Gamestop for $27 each if I remember correctly. It paid for my vita and other games, and left me with a lot of credit. Yup my actions were dumb, bold, and a slap in the face. Most of all, I got my she-its and giggles out of it. :booty:Oh yeah, I am the walrus goo goo g'joob !

I flip so that I can keep my gaming budget at 0, that way I can spend money on more important things like my collection of turn of the century Russian Faberge eggs.

I am an investment banker, so I make enough money to buy game companies at full price. I enjoy the thrill of making a big profit on flips. Last month a went to Best Buy and bought 3500 copies of Assassin's Creed: Revelations and traded the in for $15+5 each. I made over three hundred thousand in profits and paid off my Halo 4 pre-order.

a buddy of mine went to a school to be a medical professional. he learned how to clean all the tools used by the actual doctors. if someone says that they work in a field but wont specify which part of it, i always assume it's something like this.

It's not that farfetched to be one or the other. Or even both.

For example, I'm both an analyst and a therapist. It's a combined discipline. Analrapist.

Flippers are only 'hated' around here because one person has to start the 'omg you ruin the deals for others by flipping' train and then the rest of the usual suspects dog pile onto the flipper because they just feel they gotta put in their half a cent worth of vitriol to the cesspool.

If everybody just shut the fuck up or ignored people who 'brag' then these issues would not arise. But everybody has to rag on everyone on here for shit they feel is 'wrong' and so it continues.

This is exactly why I flip games. It keeps my cost out of pocket for the games and items I want lower than spending real cash 100% of the time. Although I prefer to use the savings on hookers, booze & drugs.
