Get $20 trade-in Credit when you trade 4 or more games (Current gen games only (no PS2) and $5 minimum for each game). Offer valid 10/2/11 - 10/08/11**** This promo was cancelled early due to technical issues. There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracked on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone/Android app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

How come the GOTY/complete version doesn't show up in the estimator?
Best Buy doesn't differentiate between the vanilla and GOTY/complete versions of a game. This is largely a cover-all policy due to the fact that many GOTY editions include the game's DLC and bonus content as one-time use codes; meaning that the game has no extra value on the 2nd hand market. So no extra TIV for your GOTY games. The plus side is that GOTY and vanilla versions sell at the same price, so if the DLC is located on disc and you find a GOTY version in-store it will be the same price as the vanilla one.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but updates can and do happen at any time. Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Lately some people have been told the policy is 1 game per system (i.e. you could trade in 1 copy of a game for Xbox, 1 for PS3 and 1 for Wii), and have been actively turned down when trading in more than one copy. Whether this is actually something they are banning for or if it is just what employees are being told to follow to limit multiples is unknown. Trade multiples at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually. Yes, this also applies to DS, 3DS, PSP, etc. If you have the manual and artwork you should trade it in though anyway to improve the quality of the selection for people who may want to buy the game in the future (you can't know if the game will be complete when you buy online for example).

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only. Employees have gotten much better about knowing this policy though.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, and some stores apparently accept consoles as well. Call ahead before bringing it in. That said, the TIV for most hardware is lower than competitors.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or even city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll need a (United States) state issued ID or passport.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return. You might even be flat out denied by the employee or manager despite the official rule.

Remember, all trades are technically at the discretion of Best Buy and they can refuse to accept a game for whatever reason they want (outside of you being black, woman, Jewish, etc.).
I have no idea what you're talking about. Is "freepost" an excuse to just type anything you want? Cause I'd like in on that scam.

The sushi I had for lunch is not an investment of any kind.
You invested in food to fill your belly, or even your tastebuds. If you weren't satisfied by the value of the product you purchased, you would be upset thus making food an investment.

A freepost is a way to express thought in a way that if not meaningful by any stretch but still expresses thought.
Did an epic trade in today. Traded in 80 games of my collection for $700 in gift card credit.

Bring my total to $1800 in credit for getting rid of most of my game collection (traded about 200 unique games) that I had accumulated over the past 6-7 years. Mostly there were X360 games with some Wii, PS3 and DS games in there.
Just curious, how long did that take? Some of the vets cashiers have done my 10+ stacks in less than 5 mins
I don't think you understand what the word investment means but I guess there's no helping that now. Time to move on.
a devoting, using, or giving of time, talent, emotional energy, etc., as for a purpose or to achieve something: His investment in the project included more time than he cared to remember. (relevant to how I feel about talking about this for so long while completely overlooking what I asked about Madden 13)

 Agreed let's move on

Honestly. Back in the Genesis and PS1 days I likely got ripped completely the fuck off because I didn't scout out other places to do trades into for those games when I was ready to go to the next gen. I also didn't ever think that any of them would possibly go up in value, so I just traded away everything to grab the next system.

But now, I refuse to even waste the gas to go to the store unless I'm making OVER what I paid in one way or another. If I'm trading them into BB or FYE, then I have to get at LEAST 200% more than I paid most times or I won't bother. If I'm trading them to the local shop, then I have to get a better deal than I'm giving or at least more in value versus what I paid.

Case in point: I traded my copy of :ps3:Homefront that gets $2($4.20 after promo & GCU) that I paid $1.24 for after @Gamer coupon & GCU discount for a working transparent blue PS2 controller for the $7 PS2 I found two weeks ago at a thrift. They wanted $8 for it at that shop btw.

So to me, I came out ahead.;) But that's why I have the small game collection I currently have, since none of them are worth fuck all.

Sooo I hate to break up the very interesting chatter back and forth about the meaning of investment, but yea im ready to trade in Madden 13 as well. Hoping it goes up tomorrow and can still take advantage of the 100% trade in deal. At the VERY least should be able to get $50, just a $15 loss. YAY! Wont make that mistake...again.

Isn't NCAA the game where you could get 30 GC of doing PU? I have no interest in sports titles so I didn't follow that. If that's the case 44 trade in is not bad at all.

Well at the bottom of the site it says "$40 Guarantee In-Store Only for NCAA 13". Madden has since been added to the site for $20 base, obviously making it the same deal as NCAA 13 after the 100% promo. The only spot I could be wrong is the extra 10% being added to the initial $20 rather than the overall $40, in which case itd be $42 instead of $44.

Regardless its still a solid trade-value for NCAA 13 and not too bad for those who maybe bought into the hype of Madden 13 and feel buyers remorse already (raises hand). Or it could just be I really really really would much rather have the Walking Dead Season 2 LE Bluray set for me and my fiancee rather than a sports title ill play for possibly two weeks until Borderlands 2 releases.

10% is always based on the base trade-in value. With GCU NCAA would give you $42.

Thanks for the clarification, much appreciated. Ill be heading to BestBuy first thing tomorrow morning.

Looks like MidnightMetal has confirmed the 100% is extended another week to 9/8. Feeling pretty confident the 10/6 date is legit since at my last trade the guy said it was a promo that was going to last awhile. Now I just need to finish some games.

Yeah, Madden 13 at base 20 is a shame. NCAA's base was nearly 30 at one time, but I guess the 100% makes it hard for BB to budge on that
you know, not everyone views games as an investment or a flip.

He had games he wasn't gonna play anymore and traded them in. Whatever he paid for them originally is irrelevant.
Yeah, I never bought a single game for flip or profit, just cause I love games. But it got to a point that I had to many and I told myself enough, so I had to clear most of them out and get rid of them. If I don't have time to play the games I really do want to play, I should discard anything else that has a mild or lower interest for me.
Well it is really only a loss if you plan to play the games. It is like any other collectible except these usually go down in value. Getting $700 today for games that will just collect dust is a win in my book. I am trying hard to get past collecting games and just playing them. :)
Yeah, as stated above, these were now in my mind just collecting dust, or will continue to collect dust. I had a very nice collection, especially on 360 games. At one point I had every single FPS, RPG, 3rd person shooter on the 360. I still have over 100 games left though, so its not like I am at a need now for games, just decided to concerntrate on those I really want to play, since my time is limited, and eliminate everything else.
Just curious, how long did that take? Some of the vets cashiers have done my 10+ stacks in less than 5 mins
It took like 30 minutes at the store. Took 3 employees though. My first trade-in two month ago was over 120 games, that took like 60+ minutes for one guy alone. All my games were in great condition too, case, manual and discs all in mint condition, so that made it easier for them I guess.

Traded in Monday:
All Xbox 360
Madden 12 $6
Fable 3 $4
Batman Arkham City $8
Child Of Eden $6

$48 total after the 100% bonus. Bought a $50 Amazon card.

Only game that the TIV was less then Gamestop was NBA2K12. Only trades for $7 ($14). Gamestop was $13 plus the 30% +10% bonus it was a better trade there.

I've never bought a game solely to make a profit (though I have made a few bucks here and there by chance) and I'm very near the point where I have too many games as well. My shelves are full and there are quite a few just lying around. For one thing, I bought way too much junk from the $5 Hollywood Video sale a few years ago that got played briefly or not at all. Traded 15 games or so into Gamestop recently for around $180 in credit and I'm planning on getting rid of 15 more at Best Buy for a little over $150.

At this point, if I can get back close to what I paid for a game or a reasonable return ($8-$10 or more) on a game I've beaten that's collecting dust, I'm going to get rid of it.

Madden 13 for Vita has a trade value of $12 +100% =$24
Should I trade mine in? Just wondering what you guys think since I have no use for this game that came bundled with the Vita.

I'd probably try other marketplaces first. However if you are in hurry up mode then compare values in the trade market locally and go from there. If you have no use for it then don't waste time and allow the value to drop before you budge

heh this girl new to doing trades denied me from trading because i didn't have the case or instructions, oh well, the regular guy usually works every other day so i'll go back tomorrow.

I took in 19 games earlier and the guy doing the trade-in only opened the case to see if there was a disc inside. I don't think he even made sure the case matched the game on several of them. He also took my games that had Hollywood Video "instruction covers" without a problem. Was out of the store in no more than 15 minutes with a $201.xx gift card after GCU which I purchased before doing the trade.

Encountered a employee that make sure all games are complete and he carefully inspected every disc to make sure there are no scratches. Thankfully all my games are kept in absolute mint condition so there wasn't a problem.

Especially since it's an EA Sports game w/o the need for an online code... if the Vita's user base continues to grow, may possibly fetch $25-30. I'd say $24 for a 'quick flip' is very solid though. For reference though, I paid $33.89 and got a $10 Amazon Promo code; $23.xx for my copy. the time may be now for you to ditch it...
Has anybody traded Batman AA GOTY for :360:? On the tracker it's got the vanilla Batman AA for $5 base but not the GOTY for :360:, only the GOTY for :ps3:
This has been said multiple times, but aside from I think Resident Evil 5 Gold Edition for 360 Best Buy doesn't differentiate between GOTY or vanilla versions when trading in. Basically, you will get ONLY the vanilla edition trade value.
With Gamestop having their 50% trade in special starting tomorrow, many games will trump Best Buy's values, including Madden 13
Except that just like BB nerfed a whole mess of values before this 100% promo kicked in, you can fully expect GS to tank a bunch of the better ones.

But how exactly will the Madden 13 value trump BB? Isn't the value currently $20 for :ps3:/:360:? Right now, the only thing I see for Madden at GS is a guaranteed $30 tiv there. As most people know by now, promos DO NOT stack. So at most you'd get $30 from the guaranteed promo plus 10% of whatever the regular base value is, assuming they go off of that for the PUR bump still.

Although their current 30% bump promo when pre-ordering a bunch of select new games says it INCLUDES hardware and iPods, iPads and so on. Weird. Especially since usually the only thing that applied to hardware was the PUR if there wasn't a specific console trade promo going.

Unless I misread, which could easily happen, Madden base is 30. I don't know of any stacking or such but the 50% is by the promo wizard.

Maybe, maybe not? *shrugs*

Gamestop is doing a 50% promo starting tomorrow when you buy used and the base on Madden is $25, making it 37.50 for non PUR members, $40 for PUR members, Best Buy is $40 with promo, $42 for unlocked members.

But is that base guaranteed? And if so, that usually is considered a "promo" and doesn't stack.

And if it isn't a guaranteed promo TIV, then as IATCG is saying, they might nerf it just in time for the 50%.

(obviously that's the smart thing to do and I'm not mad at them for it. I'm not one of those unreasonable people who expect to get $55 for a $60 game.)

Quick question...if I trade in Red Dead Redemption GOTY for Xbox...what would I get?
Just $6 + bonus or do I get $6+6+ bonus cause I'm technically trading RDR and Undead Nightmare.

Debating on trading into Best Buy or GS.

it will count as two games. since there isn't a listing for the GOTY edition. just to be safe in you can bring them both in with separate cases with no artwork.

edit: that's if it comes two disc, like i think it does.
Bought a $50 Amazon card.
We can buy an amazon gift card with our best buy gift card??? If so I'll do that.
Xbox version has 2-disc.

Guess I'll find out on Saturday then.

Thanks
is it two discs in the sense that Pure / Lego Batman is two discs? Or is it two discs in the sense that Dragon Age UE is two discs. Cause if it's the latter, you will not get it.

I've been trying to wake up one of the mods on the BB forums to get them to realize that GOTY editions don't have seperate trade-in values in the system versus the vanilla versions for a while now. I think the response I received was basically an 'oh well'.

The only example of a GOTY edition having a seperate listing that I can see is :360:Resident Evil 5 Gold Edition. Although weren't all of the copies of that essentially vanilla copies of RE5 with a different cover art and a downloadable content card in the package? Or were there different versions like Borderlands GOTY where they had one with a DLC card, one with a DLC card AND the content on the disc and finally one with just the content on the disc?

Just called the base on Madden stayed the same, its $25, so its Darksiders 2.

Probably because I don't think BB is in charge of what shows up on the trade ins. They could probably tell the people in charge, but probably won't make a difference sadly.
So I've asked this before and I don't think it was answered. If a buy a BBY prepaid Visa, say like a $100 one, do I get RZ points in the equivalent of $100?
And it's been answered before as well too. You don't get RZ points when using gaming credit to purchase stuff usually. For some reason though they may give you some RZ points for some transactions, but don't expect to get full RZ points for everything.

Although you MAY get RZ point if you use the Visa at BB.
They're in the Kindle section. They're Kindle gift cards, but can be used for anything that Amazon sells.
Do they charge tax on giftcards?

Well I wasn't talking about gaming stuff necessarily, just buying a prepaid visa with cash and using it for like grocery shopping, would I get the RZ points for the 100 I spent for the card at Best Buy, but the way you phrased it I'm guessing no.

If that was the case, that would be crazy awesome, but I can see how they wouldn't want to do that
