Get $20 trade-in Credit when you trade 4 or more games (Current gen games only (no PS2) and $5 minimum for each game). Offer valid 10/2/11 - 10/08/11**** This promo was cancelled early due to technical issues. There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracked on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone/Android app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

How come the GOTY/complete version doesn't show up in the estimator?
Best Buy doesn't differentiate between the vanilla and GOTY/complete versions of a game. This is largely a cover-all policy due to the fact that many GOTY editions include the game's DLC and bonus content as one-time use codes; meaning that the game has no extra value on the 2nd hand market. So no extra TIV for your GOTY games. The plus side is that GOTY and vanilla versions sell at the same price, so if the DLC is located on disc and you find a GOTY version in-store it will be the same price as the vanilla one.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but updates can and do happen at any time. Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Lately some people have been told the policy is 1 game per system (i.e. you could trade in 1 copy of a game for Xbox, 1 for PS3 and 1 for Wii), and have been actively turned down when trading in more than one copy. Whether this is actually something they are banning for or if it is just what employees are being told to follow to limit multiples is unknown. Trade multiples at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually. Yes, this also applies to DS, 3DS, PSP, etc. If you have the manual and artwork you should trade it in though anyway to improve the quality of the selection for people who may want to buy the game in the future (you can't know if the game will be complete when you buy online for example).

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only. Employees have gotten much better about knowing this policy though.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, and some stores apparently accept consoles as well. Call ahead before bringing it in. That said, the TIV for most hardware is lower than competitors.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or even city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll need a (United States) state issued ID or passport.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return. You might even be flat out denied by the employee or manager despite the official rule.

Remember, all trades are technically at the discretion of Best Buy and they can refuse to accept a game for whatever reason they want (outside of you being black, woman, Jewish, etc.).
Well that sucks. Guess Ill go the disc only route and get $21 rather than $10.50
I'm actually surprised the complete edition isn't listed separately in this case. They list the dual packs of Ultimate Alliance/Forza and Kung Fu Panda/Lego Indy as packs and separately. Same thing really.

I tried to get LPB Vita at BB but they are one of the few stores that still has it coming out next Tuesday but I still traded in 3 sports title. One of the TIV was more than a new version sold at BB. Going to trade in some more games that are several years old but the 2x actually gives me enough to get a game or PSN card.

Damn Best Buy new trade-in system. I sent my wife to trade in a few games, total would be $121 after the 100% extra trade-in amount and before the 10% GC additional credit (which would be $6 extra), but they didn't use my rewards account even though my wife gave them my rewards card, so I am out $6. And they didn't even give her a receipt on top of that, so no way to go back and reclaim said $6.

Its not a lot, but it puts BB as a shady place to shop in my mind (back to where they've usually been then). All cause the employee just decide not to even scan the card, lie to my wife that she did and since my wife doesn't pay much attention, she doesn't remember..... Meh, it happens, just ranting about it I guess.

had that happen to me my girl trades in some games under my account with her id and no 10% was included she got them to get a manager to come override it since its worked before luckily the manager gave her the 10% after the %100 so a $9 bonus turned into $18 but what I think it is now is that if it's a different persons name or Id number most likely not the id since people have multiples of them so maybe if the name don't match the name on the rz account it might not ring up?

if i get 40$ for a trade for a game would it be 90$ with the 100% and the 10%

The 10% is on the base value so it would be $84. I'm wondering what you are trading in too. Is BB accepting kidneys now?

Other than privacy (not wanting others in the store to hear your phone number) I don't see why people bother carrying the RZ card versus giving the rep your number.
if i get 40$ for a trade for a game would it be 90$ with the 100% and the 10%
You must be talking about the games that trade in for $40 WITH the 100% already applied. And as someone stated, you get the 10% on the base value only. So if you traded in a $20 game, you will get $42($40 w/ 100% + $2(10%)). Hope that clears it up!

I could be wrong, but I think they have to enter the rz card number 2 times now per trade. I always give my phone number, then later in the transaction it prompted him for my actual rz number. I had a receipt with me, to provide it and I DID get the 10%. Last time we didn't do the extra number entry and I didn't get any points or 10% for the trade.

Both of my recent trades required my phone number first. Then towards the end both people asked if I was a unlocked member. There must be a prompt to finalize the trade.

Odd. I only give my phone # once (there's also boxes for RZ# and e-mail address, either one works) and a box pops up with my RZ info that says I'm Unlocked and the 10% is automatically added. This is right below the "cart" and before the ID info is given. I'm never asked for this info again during the transaction and I always get my 10%. Maybe your reps are doing something wrong.

Also, as folks have noticed, the customer copy of your trade-in receipt does not automatically print anymore. On the last screen of the trade-in process there are button for E-mail Customer Copy (this actually works, surprised) and Print Customer Copy. You may have to point this out to the rep.

I traded Lumines for $16 base yesterday. That is a big drop.

Yeah I did my 3rd (and obviously last) trade in of Lumines for vita yesterday as well, I ended up waiting almost an hour to finalize the trade in because the scanner (to scan the gift card in) was dead. Ended up having to open up the transaction on another computer, but after seeing that the value has dropped was well worth my time!

Anyone had success yet with getting the missing RZ points for trade-ins assigned to their account? I'm missing about $10 from a trade-in from a couple weeks ago (the extra 10%) and of course I didn't get the printout... might make it tougher to get this.

I have to call to PM Madden 13 anyway so I'll give it a shot in the same call to CS.

I traded in Fifa Soccer Vita for $16 (base) yesterday and a new copy of the game at BB sells for $30; guess they got smart.

edit: someone said in another thread, it was a glitch....lucky me.

yeah iv called cs a few times and they always give me my missing points. they usually round up too, i.e. i was missing 10% and missing the posted 96 points. they gave me 500 points for $10(my 10% would have been) plus gave me 250 points for my 96x2 trade in points. woot. this has only been like 2 times tho, so don't make a habit of it ;)

Word. This is totally a lesson learned for me, it was the only time I've turned down the printout and of course Murphy's Law reared its ugly head. I will now request the printout for all future trade-ins should this happen again.

Out of curiosity, what store are you PM'ing for Madden?

Well it was for an online order (BBY.com) with in-store pickup at #135 (Pleasant Hill, CA) so it looks like I'd have to do it by phone anyway.

Sorry about being vague in my question. I meant, what store has it for less?

Anyone else notice their trade-ins are posting faster to the RZ site. I am actually getting the points about 2 weeks later instead of the usual 30-35 days. I hope they do this permanently since the transaction cannot be returned anyway.

This is happening to all my transactions (what little I have using my BB RZMC, not paid with credit). All transactions up to 8/31 are posted and banked. I agree, why should we have to wait 30-35 days for trade-in points to post if they can't be returned.

Ugh Best Buy is pissing me off, I tried to consolidate some of my gift cards and instore pick up codes from the spend $50 get $10 last month onto the pitch in card. The gift cards and the first $10 code I put in worked fine but I did an order of $50 using five of the $10 codes and it was screwed up and still processing for over a week. After the first 2 days I e-mailed them about why it had not completed the order since it is almost always instant and after a week of no response I cancelled it this morning (~2am).

I then get two e-mails saying there was a billing error and after waiting until noon they did not put the money back onto those promo codes (which are basically $10 gift cards) so I could not reorder it. Called them up and spent an hour dealing with incompetent employees who did not even understand what I was saying or asking them (yes they were american) and I got dropped 4 times because of their incompetence to have to call back to get the same woman asking me how she can direct my call every time and having to take several minutes to explain it over to here again every time.

Supposedly some person is going to look into it and contact me again within 24-48 hours (I doubt it). Anybody have issues with the $10 pick up promo codes and the pitch in card? Is there something magically I can say to get this resolved?

They can not put the money back on those promo codes (cards). They will have to send you a physical GC in the mail or you can opt for one of those online only savings codes.

Are you sure some of the codes aren't expired? Remember, all but the ones issued in August should be expired by now.
Are you sure some of the codes aren't expired? Remember, all but the ones issued in August should be expired by now.
While I have used all the $10 coupons I received already, arent the codes from August valid until September 30th? If so, the other guy still has ten days to use the codes.

@klimb22 Yeah the codes are still good as they expire at the end of this month since they were from august pick ups and do not expire until 9/30. Thanks for the info though, someone at best buy said they were essentially gift cards and should go back so I will relay that info when I call next time.

@roundhouse what loophole am I trying to exploit? I am trying to move all my gift cards from trade ins and promo codes onto my pitch in card so I can easily keep track of the card used for when I have to pm or return something and do not have to deal with having to have them send/give me dozens of other cards which makes it easier for me and them since I won't be tossing it away.

edit: Which also helps since they always overcharge me tax when I do an instore pick from an online order which I have/had most of the $20 victory can be preordered games done that way and refund it after I pick it up.

Plenty of folks on here (myself included) have either PM'ed or returned items bought with these codes and IIRC all had to get physical replacements in the mail or in-store.

Let's be honest, the real reason that you probably have that Pitch-In card in the first place is because purchases w/ the card earn RZ points, whereas gift card purchases do not.
I am trying to move all my gift cards from trade ins and promo codes onto my pitch in card
Forgive me if I'm wrong on this but I'm under the impression that only giftcards can be put onto the Pitch-In card (and not promo codes/RZ certs).
Let's be honest, the real reason that you probably have that Pitch-In card in the first place is because purchases w/ the card earn RZ points, whereas gift card purchases do not.
Is that true? Even if I put a GC on it it will also earn points? I just got one because I was tired of having 8-10 cards laying around from trading.
Forgive me if I'm wrong on this but I'm under the impression that only giftcards can be put onto the Pitch-In card (and not promo codes/RZ certs).
Those codes were basically treated as GCs for purchases (not returns as we all found out) as they had X amount of digits and a PIN.
Let's be honest, the real reason that you probably have that Pitch-In card in the first place is because purchases w/ the card earn RZ points, whereas gift card purchases do not.
No, the fact is I have 10 gift cards from trade ins and PM's that I can't tell which ones has been used for which preorders so when I pm them later I know it will go back to the pitch in card for future purchases and do not have to enter 10 gift cards to check which one got refunded what amount (also the tax refund which is automatic).
Those codes were basically treated as GCs for purchases (not returns as we all found out) as they had X amount of digits and a PIN.
Yep this is what I was told when I used one instore and the cashier noticed it had a pin and told me it was gift card.

That's not correct.

Promo codes yes, RZ no.

I got the pitch in card a couple weeks ago mainly, like you, to be able to consolidate the gift cards I have, but it came up in discussion in a couple of these Best Buy threads that you do earn points when using gift cards to fill your pitch in card. I did that last week and currently show points pending for like 10 transactions paid with a gift card.

It's not supposed to work that way, but at least for now it sure looks like it does :D
Sorry about being vague in my question. I meant, what store has it for less?
Well I'll be damned... I could have sworn it was down to $50 at Best Buy last week. Need to remember to strike while the iron is hot.

I'm not sure who has it for less than $60 right now but I have at least 8 days left to find out (I picked it up the Thursday after release so I'm not sure by which date the 30 days PM window closes).
