Get $20 trade-in Credit when you trade 4 or more games (Current gen games only (no PS2) and $5 minimum for each game). Offer valid 10/2/11 - 10/08/11**** This promo was cancelled early due to technical issues. There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracked on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone/Android app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

How come the GOTY/complete version doesn't show up in the estimator?
Best Buy doesn't differentiate between the vanilla and GOTY/complete versions of a game. This is largely a cover-all policy due to the fact that many GOTY editions include the game's DLC and bonus content as one-time use codes; meaning that the game has no extra value on the 2nd hand market. So no extra TIV for your GOTY games. The plus side is that GOTY and vanilla versions sell at the same price, so if the DLC is located on disc and you find a GOTY version in-store it will be the same price as the vanilla one.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but updates can and do happen at any time. Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Lately some people have been told the policy is 1 game per system (i.e. you could trade in 1 copy of a game for Xbox, 1 for PS3 and 1 for Wii), and have been actively turned down when trading in more than one copy. Whether this is actually something they are banning for or if it is just what employees are being told to follow to limit multiples is unknown. Trade multiples at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually. Yes, this also applies to DS, 3DS, PSP, etc. If you have the manual and artwork you should trade it in though anyway to improve the quality of the selection for people who may want to buy the game in the future (you can't know if the game will be complete when you buy online for example).

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only. Employees have gotten much better about knowing this policy though.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, and some stores apparently accept consoles as well. Call ahead before bringing it in. That said, the TIV for most hardware is lower than competitors.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or even city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll need a (United States) state issued ID or passport.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return. You might even be flat out denied by the employee or manager despite the official rule.

Remember, all trades are technically at the discretion of Best Buy and they can refuse to accept a game for whatever reason they want (outside of you being black, woman, Jewish, etc.).
Well I'll be damned... I could have sworn it was down to $50 at Best Buy last week. Need to remember to strike while the iron is hot.

I'm not sure who has it for less than $60 right now but I have at least 8 days left to find out (I picked it up the Thursday after release so I'm not sure by which date the 30 days PM window closes).
That was target, I managed to get it last monday. Unfortunately it looks like target, toys r us and best buy is not going to have it on their ad next week but it still might be on sale somewhere.

It works that way because it would be unfair to the people who use the Pitch-In card in a legit manner if they didn't earn any RZ points on purchases. It would be very difficult & messy to keep track of the different sources of Pitch-In card credit for every single person who has one. So I guess until they figure out how to do that, it's open for exploitation.

LOL. I don't think of expect it to last long, but a nice little bonus while it does. If it makes you feel better, I can delete my post after cancerman sees it ;)

Well I cannot help if that is how is works. I have suggested numerous times to the gaming dept they get something set-up like GS does with the PUR cards. It is what it is I guess. I have done 27 different trades this year, each with a different amount on a separate card. My intention for the Pitch In card is for consolidation. I am not worried about extra RZ points only because I have a crap ton from trading and not looking for a double dip. Anyway, not much I can do about it.

But that's the thing, they already have a way to differentiate it. It is not based on filling a pitch in card, it is based on method of payment, just like any other transaction.

Maybe my posts made it sound as if I'm upset someone would do this, but I'm really not. Personally I don't do it but do not care if anyone does. It's up to the corporations to fix these things on their own. They get no sympathy from me.

Actually, I took it more as you might be worried I was going to jinx it. :whee: Either way, I really am doing it more just to get the 10 gift cards out of my back pocket, but I'm not going to complain there's a little bonus along with it. I'm really just tired of my ass going numb driving down the road :D
But that's the thing, they already have a way to differentiate it. It is not based on filling a pitch in card, it is based on method of payment, just like any other transaction.
No, not really. The whole idea behind the card is that your friends/family/etc can Pitch-In to help you buy something you really want.

So let's say grandma throws in $20, your mom uses a credit card to pitch in $50, and you add a $50 gift card on there. The system would have to be designed to keep track of these as seperate things even though they are pooled together on your card. Then you go to the store and buy something for $80. How do you determine how much of that is bought with real money and how much with gift card? How much RZ do you earn? Keeping track of all this would be a hassle to say the least. It's probably not even worth the effort considering the extra strain it would put on customer service taking calls from confused people.

By what you just described, that is the system I'm talking about that they already follow when you purchase a gift card or a TV or a stick of gum.

When mom uses her credit card to fill your pitch in card with 50 bucks, she gets her points then. same thing would be if she bought you a gift card, she would get her points for buying you a gift card.

Now, if you are trying to say you get points when you use your pitch in card, that would be news to me, because I just used it for the first time this weekend and my transactions haven't shown up on RZ yet. That wouldn't just be double dipping though, that would be triple dipping :whee: Since the pitch in card basically functions as a reloadable gift card, I would have to assume you do not get points for using the pitch in card. I wasn't talking about using it though, just loading it.

Ahh I see what you are saying now. Thanks for the full explanation.

Ok, Kool, that made sense? Felt like I was talking in circles for a minute, because I was using the speech to text function on my phone to write that while I was busy using both hands to finish my last job of the day lol
Ugh Best Buy is pissing me off, I tried to consolidate some of my gift cards and instore pick up codes from the spend $50 get $10 last month onto the pitch in card. The gift cards and the first $10 code I put in worked fine but I did an order of $50 using five of the $10 codes and it was screwed up and still processing for over a week. After the first 2 days I e-mailed them about why it had not completed the order since it is almost always instant and after a week of no response I cancelled it this morning (~2am).

I then get two e-mails saying there was a billing error and after waiting until noon they did not put the money back onto those promo codes (which are basically $10 gift cards) so I could not reorder it. Called them up and spent an hour dealing with incompetent employees who did not even understand what I was saying or asking them (yes they were american) and I got dropped 4 times because of their incompetence to have to call back to get the same woman asking me how she can direct my call every time and having to take several minutes to explain it over to here again every time.

Supposedly some person is going to look into it and contact me again within 24-48 hours (I doubt it). Anybody have issues with the $10 pick up promo codes and the pitch in card? Is there something magically I can say to get this resolved?
I had a cancelled order using these codes. Igo tthe same email. I called CS they said they were sending me a replacement card. This was about 10 days ago.. no card. I gotta call again.

Woah!

YMMV but as a heads up, it seems that some stores are doing a 50% off all clearance games sale. Managed to pick up :ps3: FFXIII-2 CE for $14.99, 2 copies of :wii: DJ Hero for $2.49, 1 copy of :Wii: Disney Sing it: Pop Hits for $7.50. Gonna go back tmr hoardo style and buy/flip some more DJ Hero's to help pay off for Borderlands 2 xD
Woah!
Yea, I reworded that like 3 times. Sounded wrong no matter what I wrote. I was in a rush to get to the rink so I said fuck it lol.

But hey, it's a big job. Somebody's gotta do it. ;)

If I were to trade in Lollipop Chainsaw, would it be best to do it now while its 14 dollar base or would it be better to wait till after the coupon expires and see if the base goes back up?

Also, the Base is 20 at game stop, is there any deal that would make that trade in for higher than Best Buy?

If anything, the TIV will go down due to a possible sale within the coupon's time frame, so I would trade now. And no to GS unless you have the PUR steal coupon from last week.
Wow, big surprise. A few games I am planning to trade actually went up a couple of bucks. Always nice.
I wonder if the B2G1 has anything to do with that? Maybe the lower stock and higher demand increases the tiv for some games.

Can someone help me i'm trying to figure out if this is worth the trip because my nearest bestbuy is 25 miles away from me.I have some games that i wanted to trade at gamestop but the latest promo doesn't seem worth it, in theory should i be able to trade in m games a bestbuy with the 100% trade in bonus and preorder blops2 with the free 20 dollars gift certificate?I'm a little confused with bestbuy tradein program.

Trade your games get the 100% bonus, no preorder is required. Print a ticket from the kiosk and pay the $5.00 for the blops 2 preorder. When you do the preorder be sure that the cashier scans your reward zone card. Then when the game is released you pay the balance due at the time of purchase. The 100% has nothing to do with the preorder. And the $20.00 preorder certificate should be issued 30 days after the game is picked up.

also, you have to be Gamers Club Unlocked to get the $20 RZ certificate.

Use this to figure out the Trade in Value to see if it's worth in. Just double the quote they give you.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...sc&sc=gameToySP&newsearch=newsearch&platform=

I have that link bookmarked on my phone....I'm always checking TIVs.
Speaking of which, I can't believe Darksiders II went UP!! It's $40 now.

Shoulda held onto it a little longer.

Best buy also has Video Game Trade-In Android app that's pretty useful. It can scan the UPC of your game and give you the base value.

Reward Zone is free but you need Gamers Unlocked to get the $20 deal

The iOS version is pretty much spot on. It was a life/time saver during the Blockbuster Video video game sale days. Pretty much picked up every game on the shelf/table and scanned it to see if the TIV was worth it

...but I do recommend using the website whenever possible.
I don't have a rewards card,is it free or something you have to pay for?
As stated above, Reward Zone is free but you will need to pay for the "Gamer's Club Unlocked" membership to take advantage of the $20.00 preorder promotion. All of the info on the program can be found here. I would recommend you join as the monthly coupons and Gamer's Club Unlocked offer savings will pay for the membership. Plus you get an additional 10% trade in credit as well.

I would compare trade in values with the Gamestop TIV thread as well since Gamestop is offering a tiered promo right now that doesn't require a preorder. If you have a lot of games to trade you can maximize your credit by splitting them up and trading to the stores that offer the highest value after bonuses for each individual game.

I haven't done much trading into BB for awhile so thanks for the heads up. I'll be sure to check the website anyways.

Darksiders 2 has been 20 since last week. That wasn't a recent change.

so has anyone actually tried flipping the 5 for a dollar PS2 games to best buy for 50 cents each? I'm tempted to try it to get borderlands 2 half price, but bringing in over 100 disc only ps2 games to have them look up individually seems like a great way to get the police called, or just plain denied.

At the same time with ps2 games at $0.19 each at gamestop, getting $0.50 each with the 100% trade boost, a $60 retail game would only be about $22.80+tax if you traded in about 120 ps2 games.

It could be okay, if you did it over the course of a week. I pass 2 best buys on the way home from work. Put all those disc only PS2 games in a cd wallet, tell them you're getting rid of your old games and never kept the cases, they'll look them up. It would take some time though.

The waste of time is what's keeping me from doing it.

yep and spec ops dropped also. damn wish i would have grabbed some game of thrones earlier to flip from that gamefly sale but all out of stock now. 10->25 would have been awesome. oh wellz

I made an awesome trade-in today: Sleeping Dogs :)360:) for $33.60 after bonuses (bought for $30 from BBY by PMing TRU's 2-for-$60 deal, and I got all of the achievements, so it's like BBY paid me $3.60 to 100% the game ) and Glee Karaoke Revolution Vol. 3 :)360:) for $12.60 after bonuses (bought for $4.99 from Newegg). :D

To top it all off, the employee who processed my trade-in was able to give me the Borderlands 2 :)ps3:) preorder DLC that I was supposed to receive but didn't due to a barcode mixup between the PS3 and PC versions for free thanks to my having proof that I should have received it. \\:D/
How do they consider you a dealer? I traded 21 games for $197 with ease... no duplications.
This needs to be sticky'd.

There are triggers in the system that flag your account. Then a loss prevention specialist examines the flagged account and then decides if a ban is warranted.

The triggers include volume of games and trade in credit.

Once flagged, it is completely subjective whether a ban is dropped.

I think he's asking how do they consider you a dealer and just deny you the trade, not how they ban you for excessive flips. Like Gamestop. In order for them to consider you a dealer, you either have to tell them you're dealing or buy/sell a high volume of games at a time.

I am sure I have just been lucky or those getting banned are doing some serious trades. I have done $1840 in trades (before bonuses) since 2/12 this year according to my RZ account. If I have not been banned then it is definitely either super high volumes or it is subjective after the account is flagged.

I do have receipts for every game though so I would try to fight a ban that way if possible

You're no where near being banned if that's all you've done. As long as you don't go over the "3 per" limit you should be fine at that pace.

My BB never gives me my gamer unlocked extra 10% or my RZ points on trade ins. Never. Traded in ncaa and mp3 today. No extra 10%, no RZ points. It didnt help the girl had no idea what she was doing.

You have to tell them straight up your gamers unlock member. Guy did same to me then I said what about 10% extra which I gave him my phone number. Took longer than usual as he said they just put in a new system. On my copy back it had games listed then separate section had 10% extra for gamers unlock.
