BEST BUY'S VIDEO GAMES TRADE-IN PAGE

Check most up-to-date TIV using BB's Video Games Value Estimator.

Check which BB stores do trade-ins here.
In-store trades are now done at the Trade-In Counter at the Gaming Dept.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracks on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but major updates seem to come on Sunday and Tuesday nights (or at least have in the past). Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually.

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, but word is that will change soon.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll likely need a state ID.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return.
Any worthy flip from Best Buy to Gamestop, since Best Buy is having their buy 2 get 1 free promotion. It'll be cool to find games to flip back and forth.
Best Buy's in-store stock is so random, and so limited, that any flip will be insanely hard to find in stock.
lol I hope best buy tanks the MvC3 TIV before they ship.

I would have liked to have bought an extra 360 copy for tournament setups. Hope you guys who ordered multiples get stuck with them.

Since the base TIV is more the purchase price I'm sure they covered their ass.
you do know about the bonuses right?
Do I know about bonuses? Are you kidding?

If the TIVs drop before their shipment comes they'll be covered and wont lose anything if they're locked in.

Here: "Manufacturers reimburse retailers for properly-used manufacturers' coupons." Go!

Should run for a couple of pages with that.

I picked up one copy of MVC soon as I saw the GF sale last night, figured with such a solid TIV that I'd try it out, and if I didn't like it I'd just trade it in sooner. Not worried much about the price tanking.

Anyone know if the Robin DLC for Batman is a card that bestbuy gives you or is it within the game packaging?

I was debating on buying a few copies of the game and flipping the codes online then selling the games separately.

I'm going to be blunt, if all the idiots ran off and made their own circle jerk trade-in flip thread I'm glad. This thread hasn't been full of nearly as much BS for the last couple of days and I'm guessing that's why.
True the BBY threads are a little more tolerable now . We just need BBY to stop being a horribly broken place and get our CAGs to read the damn OP.

Not certain, but unless it is a BB exclusive UPC, then the code will probably be emailed like past DLC. If it is a BB exclusive version of B: AC then it would be included inside the case. I asked about this at my local store and they admitted it was broken system because lots of people were complaining that they did not receive their DLC via email from past games. He hinted that maybe they would do a code given out when you pickup your preorder, but that was just conjecture. Guess we will find out soon.

Supposedly, BB is moving away from email and instead printing the Pre-order bonus code on the receipt when you pick it up. Not all BB employees know about the change so some people haven't gotten their Forza codes and had to go back to the store. Not sure if Batman will be like this or included in the game - I've seen differing opinions in multiple posts.

They changed the preorder code process and now the cashier should scan a barcode at checkout which will print out the code on the receipt.

Forza was like this. So when checking out make sure they scan that code.
Have my receipt for preorder of batman- gonna see if I can get bonus with it for trade in- if not I'll just preorder it again and cancel lol
I must have missed something, why would you need to cancel/reorder something, what is the bonus that you think you're not going to get ?

Trade in bonus for preordering batman. 50%
Trade in bonus for preordering batman. 50%
Why not do what everyone else is doing trade in against the promotion and then cancel unwanted preorders after the game releases. Doing it that way helps the store employees hit their preorder numbers which results in them being awarded free games. It's not like you can get the 50% on the games you originally traded.

As a professional flipper I'm a little disappointed I wasn't invited.

Anyway, as others have stated, BB seems to be switching to a printed code system after the disaster that was GOW3. The word is that something needs to be scanned to produce the code, so be vigilant about that. While it is possible that Batman AC will be a unique version exclusive to BB with the code inside, it cost a lot to go and print off all the codes, add them to the game case, and print a completely separate set of cover arts for a unique UPC; certainly a lot more than it cost to just have the code print on a receipt already being printed in store. So if I had to wager, I'd say the code will not be in the game case.

The ps3 dance dance revolution was a decent flip if you paid $10 at walmart you would get $22 if you did the 40% bonus last week. A $12 profit isn't bad. Plus you still have all the ddr mats as BB wont take them.

I did a trade in awhile back to get 50% towards MW3. I want to do another trade in for Batman, but won't have an opportunity to do it until after the cut off date. Does anyone know if I can call best buy and change my MW3 pre order to Batman so I can get the 50% again towards MW3 in a couple weeks?

Just preorder it again. Two is alright. Then return one preorder ($5 refund) and walk to the gamer dept. and preorder batman when you get the chance.

Agreed. I am getting this day 1 for sure and always wanted it new. I am not sure how many people out there do not have internet that play on the current console generation but it does suck that a single player only game holds back content even if you buy the game new.

Rage does the same thing with the "sewers" dlc. It's getting really annoying honestly.

yeah but i thought catwoman was already on disc and there was no need for her to be playable through a code. I could understand robin and nightwing since I guessing they wont really have anything to do with the story, but catwoman is big part of this game. I feel really bad for the people who only can play as batman and were thinking until today that they were and should be able to play as both.

Anyone with a sears nearby, you might want to check some of the DS clearanced games...picked up a few that we're $1.97 and traded in for $5-6 plus the unlocked and 50% bonus, not much of a flip but quick and easy way to make a few extra bucks/credit...skate it, monster jam: urban assault, and bratz party rock were a few titles I found

Target near me also clearanced Michael Jackson for DS to $4.98. $6 base TiV means $9.60 with unlocked. So about a 80% ROI after tax.

So in order to purchase anything off of Amazon.com I need to buy Kindle gift cards?

If anyone can help me out real quick since I am going to BestBuy today to trade in some games.

Last question that I did not see answer here..... In order to get a 50% trade in bonus is this only for trading in video games or can I trade in an ipod touch and get the 50% bonus as well, as long as I pre-order Battlefield 3?

How about you suk a d1ck Man..... Im on the road constantly and a quicker reply from someone is better then being a f@g Bag such as yourself.

A simple yes or no answer would be suffice and while it said it worked for games and not game hardware I did not see ipod mentioned.

You were doing so well.

No one gives a shit if youre driving the delivery vehicle around. Use the FAQ. Its written in english. You should be able to understand it.

If it's a gaming trade in promo why the fuck would an iPod be involved?

Calm the fuck down.
