In-store trades are now done at the Trade-In Counter at the Gaming Dept.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracks on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but major updates seem to come on Sunday and Tuesday nights (or at least have in the past). Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually.

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, but word is that will change soon.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll likely need a state ID.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return.

If you have any Five Below (like a dollar store, but with a $5 ceiling)stores in your area, the NDS game Dream Chronicles is $5, and trades for $5, for those looking for filler. Hope this is helpful.
I'm not sure what you think you read in the OP but I just read it and it doesn't clarify this at all. The reason people are asking is because the OP says nothing about whether or not you can use the deal multiple times.

Also, I've read the last four pages of this thread and nobody in this thread has posted about doing multiple transactions simultaneously with this deal. Often deals like this have a "1 per customer" type limitation, so it seems to be a pretty valid question.
and when deals like this have a "1 per customer" stipulation it is CLEARLY noted by such retailer.
and someone did post this morning that more than one transaction was required for additional batches of 4 ....
Does anyone know if you can do two separate transactions and get the 4 games + $20 deal twice?
Yes you can

The last four pages of a fifteen page thread? Nice job. I said use the search function not read the OP.

Here ya go, took 2 minutes to find (two pages back):
Just got back from BB. I had 12 games so we did them all at once and it only gave $20 because it says 4 or more in the system. So we just re-did it 4 at a time to get the $20 for every 4.
just got back from trading in 12 games...The lady did all of them at once and it only gave me ONE $20 extra bonus, so I asked her if she could do the trades in sets of 4 so i could get an extra $60 instead of only the extra $20 and she said she had no problem doing that for me...so I ended up getting about $140 or so after the trades and extra credit

Traded 4 games. Looking through the values it was kind of weird. My $5 base game only got a $4 bonus. But a $9 base game got a $7 bonus. In the end it added up to $20 for the promo and another $2.50 for Unlocked. $47.50 for 4 games. Not bad at all

Is it better to do the Trade 4 for $20, or should I wait to see if the rumored 50% bonus trade towards Battlefield 3/Batman is better? I tried doing the math, and it ended up only being like a dollar difference with the 50% getting more for the 4 games I was looking up values for.

Base game? Bonus? Can you clarify all this?

So you looked up a game that said it had $5 trade in value and they only gave you $4, or did they give you $9 total for the game?

My gaming supervisor reassured me last night that the 40% extra ran through 10/28 as stated on the things they hang up (plus corporate confirmed it at the convention in LA last week).

However, I asked again today and wanted him to check the system for it since it wasn't listed on the website anymore, but given the shitfest that the ICO/GoW pricing errors were, I totally forgot to get him to check >.<

Someone please find out when you're in store!

I'm about to go to the store, but as I understand it this is how it works:

You get 40% for any game traded (30% without unlock membership) PLUS $20 for every 4 games (trade in value must be over $5) after you pre-order 2k12 or a game that qualifies.

Assume that you have the unlock membership and trade in 8 games that are worth estimated total trade in value of $200. (at $25 a pop) You get $200 + 40% = $280 PLUS an additional $40 because you traded in 8 games. 4 @ $20 bonus and another 4 @ $20 bonus.

So that's $320 total after bonuses when you would have only gotten $200 had there been no promotions going on.

Correct?
Base game? Bonus? Can you clarify all this?

So you looked up a game that said it had $5 trade in value and they only gave you $4, or did they give you $9 total for the game?
Sorry. I figured the promo would add $5 to each title but it did not. My Star Wars Force Unleashed had a base of $5. Promo added $4 and Unlocked .50. I got $9.50 for it. Then I look at Splatterhouse, which had a base of $9. The promo added 7.20 and Unlocked .90. Making it $17.10

Reason I bring it up is cause it looks kind of screwy and maybe, just maybe there might be something wrong there.

None the less, guy said I was the first trade in of the day and this was at 1 PM. Can't vouch for it working on anything under $5 but you never know.

That may be BB policy, but a guy just got $17.10 after promos for Splatterhouse, which had a base of $9.

Something is stacking. :D

I think the $20 extra is divided proportionately based on the TIV of the 4 that's why u get those 'weird' values.

Why wait around for just one dollar! Damn you are a CAG!

j/k you should do it today. Trade values fluctuate and they generally go down in price over time. Money in hand now is better than hoping for money later.

Hmm. Might have to find 4 games to take in tomorrow. Right now, it's looking like it's gonna be:

Fable III
Hunted TDF
Madden 11
Bayonetta

(Just so i remember tomorrow)

Haha I'm not that cheap, just want the best deal. I will just trade them now and put it towards my Rage and Dark Souls.

I said the AD that we've all been talking about for the past three days.

Do you not understand what the OP says?
(Limitations Apply)

Why do you take everything so personal?

EDIT:

Also if you really did attend WVU that explains so much.

he reads the op & thread
and merely points out others (ah) hummmmm) who are too lazy to.

Reading the op Vs posting lazy ass questions would not only answer 99.9% of the answers here but would most likely give the reader alot of additional info

The OP is a mess and hard to find the info. Plus I don't live in this thread...

The website (BB) also has the promotions listed. It does not mention a TIV floor. That may be good leverage for folks wishing to trade in a $3-4 game etc.

Excuse me for trying to be helpful...

Seriously people, this forum and this thread in particular have gotten so incredibly bad. People need to spend just two minutes looking through the last page or two before answering a question. I vote that we add "READ THE OP!" to the thread title.

Really? It says it 8 lines from the top, 8 lines, bolded, in a larger font than usual... Yeah, it sure was hidden there.

ctrl+f on the OP.

Not difficult.

If you actually looked through the thread; you'd realize its been discussed, and then beaten like a dead horse a multitude of times.

Being helpful and pretentious are two different things; that you've seemed to have gotten mixed up.

That derailed the thread, not so much this:
Where did you guys see it had to be at least $5?
Used my $15 in reward zone coupons to pay for the Unlock membership.
Traded in 8 games, in 2 sets of 4.

Assassin's Creed II
God Of War 3
3D Dot Game Heroes
NBA JAM

Came to $36 + $20 gift card. The system wasn't giving them the option to select the $20, so they had to give me the gift card another way.

2nd trade was
Red Dead Redemption
Crysis 2
Mortal Kombat
GOW 3 (cost me around $10 after the selling of kantus and $20 promo amazon credit)

Those came to $85. With the 40% on top of that it came out to be $119.

Everything matched what was listed in the price estimator online.

I got $175 in gift cards total, and in all the confusion, I actually forgot to pre-order the damn game.
Used my $15 in reward zone coupons to pay for the Unlock membership.
Traded in 8 games, in 2 sets of 4.

Assassin's Creed II
God Of War 3
3D Dot Game Heroes
NBA JAM

Came to $36 + $20 gift card. The system wasn't giving them the option to select the $20, so they had to give me the gift card another way.

2nd trade was
Red Dead Redemption
Crysis 2
Mortal Kombat

Were you busy yesterday or something? I'm not going to do the math, but you could have made out a lot better yesterday.

You could've also probably waited for the rumored 50% Batman promo and probably came away with more.

Implying values stay the same.

Wait, nvm. I misread the second half of his post and I assumed he did the trade 4 for $20 extra on his second batch of games.
That may be BB policy, but a guy just got $17.10 after promos for Splatterhouse, which had a base of $9.

Something is stacking. :D
I got around $22 or so for :ps3:Splatterhouse last month. But then again that was when I think it was $15 or so base and I did the 50% bonus promo.;) I'm glad I didn't wait, since I made back what I paid and then some.:)
Hmm. Might have to find 4 games to take in tomorrow. Right now, it's looking like it's gonna be:

Fable III
Hunted TDF
Madden 11
Bayonetta

(Just so i remember tomorrow)
FYI: Hunted: The Demon's Forge gets $17(360) and $19(PS3) at Blockbuster for trade.;)

Oh and to top it all off I stopped at the BB where they forgot to add the 50% trade promo for RAGE/NBA2K12 the other day onto my trade and thus shorted me around $9.

The solution: the manager at that store is gonna send a memo to stores in the district that if I go to pick up RAGE there that there is to be a $9.50(woo hoo he gave me an additional $1.10:roll:) discount on the game.

fuck that. I only pre-ordered the game to get the trade bonus promo. I don't actually want the pos. Oh well. Looks like I'm calling corporate CS to see if they can forward me a $8.40 gc.;)

I've got a suggestion. Instead of bitching and telling people to read the OP simply don't respond to their question. The thread is becoming cluttered twice as fast because we got guys asking questions then we got the others telling them to read the OP. You guys just love feeding off each other huh? While I know it is damn annoying seeing the same question answered, all this hostility is really retarded. Give it a rest -_-

Probably end up dumping the 8 games I got from EA using the $15 Recyclebank coupon I got. Got all of their $20 games for $5 a pop since that coupon takes $15 off every item. Kind of wish I would have ordered more as this promo more than doubles the $5 spent per title.

How did he get an extra 40% on the second batch?
the OP.
Did you read it?
FAQ?

"Do promotions stack"
"No. Never. Stop asking."

I added my own special thing to that. it may or may not say that.

Can one of you guys come to my house and read the OP for me?

It's too hard by myself. :(
LOL
Hey assmunch it does not say on the website minimum $5. Why don't you quit being a fat troll and get a life
You'll have to excuse DudeImGodly but he's been really annoyed at repeated posts as of late especially in the TIV thread. Some posters don't want to search in the thread when it's 10+ pages long but the problem is all of the posters just add to the problem by posting questions into the thread itself and by doing so only make it even longer.

I understand where he's coming from and like most regs here are getting upset at all of the redundant posts where this page should only be literally 2 pages long at this point.
How did he get an extra 40% on the second batch?
30% Bonus with Rage or NBA 2K12 Pre-order/Purchase + 10% Unlocked bonus.

Ok thanks cool. I didn't catch that he was preordering 2k.

I assume that EA coupon is long gone. How many points was it?
