In-store trades are now done at the Trade-In Counter at the Gaming Dept.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracks on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but major updates seem to come on Sunday and Tuesday nights (or at least have in the past). Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually.

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, but word is that will change soon.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll likely need a state ID.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return.

You can't tell if I read it after he told me to. Besides, I still have inquiries! The videogame business is so confusing, after all. And their deals even moreso.

Ah another argument with confussious, the skys were getting dark in my area but when the arguing with him started the skys got bright again. All is right with the world :)

As for preorders I hope a 50% is in order for assassins creed

I'm honestly not calling anyone a bad guy, its just that you seem to have a lot of arguments with members on this site no matter who started it lol

That's what I heard, too. Funny how it's the cheapest game. I've been trying to PM GoW3 but unfortunately I bought the LE. Standard editions from now on for me!

I've never brought special or limited editions. Paying an extra 40 bucks plus for dust collectors ? No thank you. Plus they are mostly not special or limited to begin with

no promblem bro. Now my question Ive been told like 4times but I keep on forgetting whn I go to pick up batman I go to CS or to the games section to pick it up?

Updated OP with new promos. Odd, I think the 40% promo for any pre-order got shortened by a couple of days. Either that or I had a typo, but I HAD it going till the 30th, and the site says the 26th. Interesting.

I'm actually really glad the pre-order for BF3 got extended. Use that at least once more before using the MW3 one.

im assuming the game section i think you need to take in your preorder slip too or so it says on the preoder slip. i cant cant wat till tuesday.

Sorry they pulled the 500 RZ point ($10) from Zelda. Can find the confirmation Here.

They originally had the $10 RZ point promo but pulled it about 1 month ago. Doesn't matter if you preordered it before the promo was pulled as you still want get it (as per the above confirmation). They did say to keep looking as there might be another promo, but doubt it since it's part of the 5/$100.

Just wondering: is it possible to trade three copies of one game to a BB one day and do three more the next? If not, can I trade three copies of a game to two different BBs? Wondering because my friend wants me to flip some games which I myself am doing for myself as well.

oh well zeldas not coming out till the 20th of nov so ill give it a few weeks and then f nothng comes up just preorder it. in the mean time il break out the ce for gc and get my classic on.

Technically no. The limit is 3 per title, per console, per year.

After saying that they have a way to view your trade-ins,but it doesn't automatically endorse the above rules. Which mean most employees could care less.

Just like GS they have the right to refuse any game for any reason. This also means they have the power to ban you from there tradein program. Up to you to take that risk or not.

I do expect at some point they create a simple search program that tallies up skus for each person and at least sends out warnings.

Alright, thanks for the answer! I figured as much but wasn't sure. Seems like my friend is going to have to get off their ass and do it themselves. Now to decide where to reserve BF3. I have it payed off at GS but I do prefer BB... Hmm.

Your BBY should be holding it for you at customer service. I tried picking up NBA 2k12 at the game section with my preorder slip when it released and the employee told me I had to pick it up at CS.

Customer Service.

I did 3 games of the same today and they checked with a manager who keep scanning them(?) and finally said OK. It's not something I would do constantly and I did have 3 random games just to make it looks a little less suspicious, but I wouldn't do it consistently.
I predict bans :)
Probably... If those trade promos end and they get on top of tiv values it won't matter. I just don't see how long they can keep up all this giving away free money stuff. It remarkable it's gone on this long. Not complaining though :) It will be a fun Christmas!

good call. wish id thought of that earlier

EDIT: wow apparently they did have it this whole time. sucks because now my games probably depreciated in value. lol

Can I pre-order the Zelda with gold Wii controller at BB or just the standard edition? I'm patiently waiting for my gamesly and gamestop orders to come in, hopefully they get here soon. I made 2 gamefly accounts and they emailed one account saying that max 2 game per household :( But that's all right, 2 is better than none!

On the other account, they emailed me saying I need to call them. I have never ordered from there before, but they sure aren't asking for me to do return business with them. Hopefully this stuff comes in soon to get my bonus 60% TIV!!

Thinking of trading in GOW3 since mine is just sitting on eBay and want to get rid of it already, lol.

I pre ordered the Zelda special edition. First time I tried to pre order they told me some BS that I had to pay of the whole 70 at pre order, but then I came Back later and they let me put just $5 down on it.

I've traded at least 10 copies of Two worlds, and nothing to report as far as being refused, I just keep helping them hit their preorder numbers and they keep thanking me for helping :)

Question: Do you need a Rewards Zone membership to trade in games? And is it possible to trade in games towards a pre-order and then cancel and keep the money/gift-card?
Question: Do you need a Rewards Zone membership to trade in games? And is it possible to trade in games towards a pre-order and then cancel and keep the money/gift-card?
I'm not sure if you have to have a reward zone membership to trade in games...but they are going to collect all your personal info. Your location is listed as Miami? You'll be subject to the pawn laws of FL, (I know there are variations from county to county, so just commenting on Charlotte County, FL here...) The first time you trade in, they will require your license, and they copy down all the info from that, phone #'s, email, and also your employer (though I told them I didn't have one, and they were fine with that answer) They also have an electronic device that takes your thumb print, then you sign an electronic box that says the stuff you're trading in belongs to you, and *then* still another signature on a print out that says you received a gift card from them. phew. it's a hell of a lot more work then Gamestop...lol.
I just traded in at Best Buy for the first time the other day, and told the guy if it's gonna be like this everytime, I'm sticking with their competition. He assured me that process was just for the first time, and in the future it should be just a scan of the reward zone card, a couple signatures and done.

Wow. Now that is pretty freaking crazy. Thanks a lot for this. I honestly didn't know they made people do all this for a trade-in. I guess it doesn't sound so bad if it's only a one-time thing. Sweet then. Thanks again! ^^

Here's a couple decent Amazon to Best Buy flip/credit transfers -

Nail'd for the 360/PS3 - Amazon is selling it for $9.99 new -> Trades @ BB for $11.00 base ($17.60 after all bonuses)

Michael Jackson The Experience for the PSP - Just 4 Games fulfilled by Amazon is $5.39 new -> Trades @ BB for $6.00 base ($9.60 after all bonuses)
Probably... If those trade promos end and they get on top of tiv values it won't matter. I just don't see how long they can keep up all this giving away free money stuff. It remarkable it's gone on this long. Not complaining though :) It will be a fun Christmas!
I think they promoted Geek Squad employees to handle these things...thats why its still broke!

I know they are making gradual improvements. Just recently came across a change in their trade-in terms for sealed games. Only a matter of time before their TIV system responds as fast as amazon.

What is the Gamers Club extra 10% exactly? I subscribed to their Gamer Magazine a few weeks ago. Is that all there is to it? I didn't receive a card or anything, is it linked to my Reward Zone card?

I'm not sure if just subscribing to the magazine automatically gives you the gamers club. I know getting the Gamers Club gives you an year of the magazine. I don't know if you get a separate card but it links up to your reward zone account, you can find out if the gamers club is unlocked when you log into your reward zone account. Right under the "welcome back" on the top right hand corner you will see it say "Gamers Club Unlocked".

Did you subscribe to Unlocked or just to the mag? If you subscribed to Unlocked you would of had to have a RZ account and they attach it to that and its +10% on trade-ins (before promos), 10% off used games, a year of the mag and a free issue the day you signed up. It should show up on myrz.com in the upper right and just say 'RZ Gamers Club Unlocked' right under your RZ #.

YMMV on how long it takes to show up since mine took 3 weeks but some people have said it works instantly.

The SKU for Unlocked is 3081375 while the sub for just the mag is 3346063 so check your receipt.
