There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracks on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but major updates seem to come on Sunday and Tuesday nights (or at least have in the past). Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually.

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, but word is that will change soon.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll likely need a state ID.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return.
one thing i could nitpick about my trade in experience so far at best buy is; they never seem to tell me my trade in values for games as they do the trade in. usually at the end, they'll tell me what i received in total but usually not the TIV game by game. i guess its a good thing they have the trade in estimator, so at least i know my totals i should get pre-bonus and post-bonus. so if the numbers dont match, then i'll say something.

anyone else have similar experiences?
When you sign the sheet they hand to you, it should have the TiV of the games you traded in on there.

Same thing happens in my regular Best Buy but went to another one in the city and he was actually really nice, stated the value of each game and the bonuses as we went along with the trade in unlike my regular one that just tells me the total when they already do all the games and it is ready for the gift card scan.

yup, and theres no way I can look at the screen due to how the kiosk is angled.

I've had the same experience but when I took my last pile of backlog, I was sure about every single TIV except for New Super Mario Wii. So I placed the game first, on top of the pile and asked the guy up front if he could check the TIV for that game before initiating the actual trade and he was super friendly about it and did just what I asked. But generally, yes, I do the same thing you do. I know what my number is supposed to be for base TIV, post pre-order bonus, and post unlocked bonus. So far, it has always matched.
When you sign the sheet they hand to you, it should have the TiV of the games you traded in on there.
haha yeah, but generally if something doesn't match up at the point, it kinda sucks. because they have to go back and fix whatever problem. i generally dont like to cause too much hassle whenever i do trade ins. so whenever they do tell me the trade in total before they even print it, i let them know that i appreciate that they told me. so maybe in the future that worker will start being more vocal about TIVs to the customer.

edit: yeah i've only had a problem once with a trade in going wrong. as i was walking out the door, i was reviewing the trade in sheets and noticed they left a game out. they forget to add in Donkey Kong Country, which had the highest TIV of all my games. so i talked to the worker, and they gave me another gift card that covered Donkey Kong Country, post bonus and all.

My Best Buy always let me know the tiv for each game I trade in and they even ask me if that's fine. The Best Buy I hate and try not to frequent as often, tells me the total at the end of the transaction. I haven't had any problems with my total not matching theirs though so I can't complain there.
yup, and theres no way I can look at the screen due to how the kiosk is angled.
If you ask them politely, I'm sure they'd let you look at the screen. The guys at my store always swivel the screen around when they're done putting titles in and ask me if it looks all right before they finalize the trade. Of course my guys are awesome. I don't know about yours, but I doubt it'd hurt to ask.
I was able to trade in Castlevania Lords of Shadow and Zumba Fitness (similar games, right?) for $40 towards Skyrim. So, after I traded it in and he gave me the gift card, I still had to go to a register and have them scan in the receipt for the pre-order... what's to stop me from just walking out with the gift card? Like let's say I just want the bonus, can I just say I'll pre-order MW3, do the trade in, then walk out with the gift card and throw away the pre-order receipt? A little unethical, and I probably won't even do it, but just wondered...
If that's how the BestBuy you go to handles it then, yeah I'd say you could just walk out without getting the pre-order and keep your bonus.
I just did a trade-in yesterday and did the Skyrim pre-order bonus. The girl that handled my trades walked over to this little kiosk thing with my giftcard, said "Skyrim on PS3 right?" pushed a couple buttons and gave me the receipt for my pre-order right there at the trade-in center.
just tell em to search for the title.
I did, and he eventually complied, but it would have been faster if there weren't a UPC for him to repeatedly try scanning (and then typing in when it didn't find it with the scan).

I always ask if they could please tell me the trade in value and they have no problem telling me the amount as they scan them.

Unrelated, so I finally got around to calling @Gamer since I signed up on 9/11 and never got an issue for September or October. Apparently my subscription wasn't sent through/processed till October 11th, meaning it took a month to process and that my first issue wasn't scheduled to be till November. Apparently I should have the November issue en route. Fun stuff.

Just wanted to drop in and say thanks. Picked up 3 copies of GTIV PS3 from Target and traded them this afternoon. I didn't realize the 360 had the same trade-in value so I didn't look for it in the store. I'm not finding it on the website either...does anyone know if they even sell it in store?

GTA 4 complete on Xbox 360 sells for $29.99 at my target I work at. It is just the PS3 version that is $19.99

Edit: I did scan it and it shows up in our system as Discontinued so most likely if your store does have it they would have it in the backroom or flexed in empty holes in their current games.

Same here. Got screwed over on the ICO/SOTC deal. They pretty much told me the same thing when I called. They said they got the subscription to late to send me the magazine for last month.

FWIW, I signed up on the very first day (Sept 12th or so) and just today (Nov 3rd) got my first issue in the mail.

They skip a month from when you sign up. Least that is what the company that makes the magazine told me when signing up in October.

So by that calculation it is working as intended.

Yeah. I've seen the NCF tags for GTA IV Complete at the Targets here and out of town, so that's usually a hint that it's either going clearance or just going to be phased out soon.

I received my first issue on the spot when I first signed up in July or so. Once they scanned the 10 issue sub barcode near the gaming register it zeroed out the issue they were giving me that day.

Traded in a few games and got 73.50 in total credit. I used the credit to get dark souls and they price matched the Kmart sale price. Because the manager took so long to get to the counter to do the price override they forgot to do the preorder for skyrim

was saying that they give you the in store issue, then skip a month then you receive 1 year of issues in the mail.

This is how they explained it to me when I called the company who publishes/ships the magazine. This seems to follow suit with how a lot of people get their first mailed issue.

They haven't skipped a month for me, since I've received every issue since I signed up and when the mag was running late getting to the house(last month's for the Ico/SOTC and GOW Origins Coll) I would simply show em my documentation n ask if they could use their in store copy to let me get the discount.;)

That's how I managed to swing BOTH GOW Origins n Ico/SOTC last month.:)

Cool, thanks for the info.

i just traded in a couple of games toward skyrim and got charged $5 for a CARD! how dumb is that, that 50% bonus is fraud since you are still going to pay for a card
no, i haven't, why? Was I trolled? Damn.
Nah, not trolled. Wasn't saying anything about you ^^

I just find his posts amusing.

you weren't exactly trolled. But it's best not to read his posts because you'll start weeping for our collective futures. And tears are very unmanly.

I never got a Reward Zone card (signed up a long time ago), my unlocked membership doesn't show up since I signed up on 9/27 (the transaction shows up though), I haven't gotten a single copy of the magazine in the mail, Arkham City never showed up for my 5/$100, and Uncharted 3 never showed up either. Also, I keep getting sent to 888BESTBUY, my local store, and myrz.com from each other.

So at least it's only your one magazine...

im not trolling, the best buy rep never said that those $5 counted toward the pre-order and in my receipt it says i got $20 for my 2 games and -$5 for the gift card and the total balance remaining is $15, is it because i dont have a reward zone membership?

You did the 50% pre-order promo towards a pre-order of Skyrim, right? The terms of that promo require you to put $5 down on Skyrim, hence why you only have $15 on the card instead of the $20. They took $5 to put towards said pre-order.

By the way, the RZ card is FREE to sign up for and in order to get at least the free Gamer's Club(paid Gamer's Club is $15, gets ya 10 issues of their @Gamer mag n 10% bonus bump on trades n 10% off used titles) you'd have to sign up for it on the Reward Zone site somewhere.

Haha, I thought you were done answering questions in this thread. Lol, just messing with you man.

So I've never used BB for trading, but I want to get Uncharted 3. Can I trade everything in and get the 40% and use that money to buy UC3?

Nice 50% extra deal on Skyrim - just finished Shadows of the Damned the other day, dumped that and a few other games for $51.

Pretty sure it's the first time I've cancelled a pre-order at Amazon and gone with BB. Evah.

Gamefly strikes again

they hadn't dropped some of last week's TIV's from Gamefly.

I think this is self-inflicted in that some CAGs are locking in the online TIV's and causing their TIV calculator to adjust them down.

The TIVs online are such shit w/o any bonuses, what's the point.

Anyways looks like my WWE and TW12 are going to Gamestop and their... 50%? bump.

People do it to make sure they at least get that minimum. I.E. a game trading for $16 drops to $4, well even with the 50% bonus, $16 is still a hell of a lot better.

Thing is, half the people probably never bother to trade in their online stuff, or trade in in-store before the drop but don't cancel their online trade-in (allowing it to simply get cancelled automatically after 14 days) and these numbers do likely factor in to the TIV's. That said, I doubt many do it so it probably has less of an effect than some would like to believe.

Before SD hits it all, Gunstringer is $20 at BBY it trades for $17.

After bonus it is about a $5 gain on BBY credit. If you are heading out that way it's a small flip, sadly. This is an awesome game and I know the people that want to play it will be screwed by those that want to flip it.

I also think that the Fruit Ninja is a code also, which you can take out.

Wasn't going to post this as those that wanted the game could snag it, but it hit SD and I know it will be a cluster..

BTW what I did was snag one and lock it in to AMZ as it is trading in for $20.25, basically a free rental with free fruit ninja

If the GF sales were really monitored by BB or their watercooler forums I'd imagine they would drop the TIV for all the game sales instead of a select few. Some games from the very same nightly deal would go untouched. My guess is each game should have a corresponding threshold/popularity TIV index. 50 submissions of Game X would trigger a drop faster than 50 submissions of Game Y.

Quit being reasonable. Gamefly did it!

I was about to do the same thing and in the Trade-In Check Out process, the price dropped to $13. No free rentals on this one anymore.

Can anyone confirm that Fruit Ninja is a download token or not? Would love to be able to keep that game even after trading in.

Anyone know how to update the original post's title? Not sure if everyone saw this but the bonus for MW3 trade-in is 50% and will be good with preorder or purchase through 11/12/11.

It's on the BBY Gaming Facebook site.

I know people love Skyrim but this is a lot bigger of a deal.

Thank you...
