In-store trades are now done at the Trade-In Counter at the Gaming Dept.

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracks on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but major updates seem to come on Sunday and Tuesday nights (or at least have in the past). Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually.

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, but word is that will change soon.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll likely need a state ID.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return.

Yeah. I also miss all of the FYE stores in my area giving cash or credit for games. It's down to one(maybe two) stores in that chain in my area that even take games anymore and at that they only take the big name titles usually(Halo, COD, etc).

I might rack up some 99 cent ps2 games from gamestop to trade in next year If they have a b2g2 sale next month. Those little fuckers add up to more than some people think with the right promotion

There's one guy from my area who got banned but I have yet to hear about it here on the forum. Went to trade in some games on a few days ago (11/21) and my BBY game reps told me some guy got blacklisted. I was afraid I was next but my trades went through.

Per my BBY game rep, he cited this website and claim that many many have been banned recently. My BBy game rep also says he continuously trade in the same game over and over. He also walked away with a $800 BBY GF at one point.

Still no word from this CAG.

So bestbuy trade this before where the deal showed expired. And next day they added new ones. I wouldn't worry. Has anyone seen tomorrows add yet?

which store do u go to? haha

Good news everyone: The 50% (60% w/ unlocked) trade in bump has returned. The caveat is that it comes with purchase of a game $39.99 or more. ...So no pre-order needed, but for god sakes everyone, just be classy and try to make it a game you actually want, or something you can get rid of easily, because you know they surely will be tracking/cracking down on the return of games to get the bonus. I guess you could go the gift receipt route if you really want to be a bastard.

Thanks a bunch ! This is acually a great deal If you think about it. I could buy zelda at msrp and if i have atleast 40$ worth of trade ins after the 60% is applied im basicly getting my 40$ back with a free game :)

Finally had a chance to update the OP. Might have to try and see if I can get them to let me get the bonus based on the fact I bought like 20 games from them this weekend, plus I pretty much never ask them to give me a break like that. I just don't know if there is ANYTHING in that price range I actually want right now.

This is my exact problem lol. I've bought so many games lately there's really not much else that I want. Especially in the $39.99 range. I wanted Dead Rising Off the Record, but told myself I'm not getting it til it hits $20

Jesus, did i miss a trade-in value nuking over the past few days? Checked some values for stuff i was interested in trading and damn near everything lost atleast 5$ worth of value

Yes very glad I ditched my second copy of Batman during the last 50% and got in on the KA flip. Not a whole lot I got to trade in now.
Yes very glad I ditched my second copy of Batman during the last 50% and got in on the KA flip. Not a whole lot I got to trade in now.
Yeah, cant complain considering i got to do the KA flip 4 times, then took part of those games and got about 70$ credit at BB lol.

Though, wish i had gone and traded some of this other stuff in. Guess it'll just go to gamestop now

Well... ask and ye shall receive. If anyone else was thinking of it as their $39.99 game, Goldeneye Reloaded is $39.99 at Target (at least in store it is but Best Buy SHOULD price match that, even if they have to call and confirm).
Anyone else see a huge drop in TIVs over the past few days. Can't even get a cheap rental.
Yup, values have gone to total shit.

Don't get me wrong - with the bonus 50% (60%) there are some good opportunities to get some cheap $39.99+ games. But as for amassing credit for later or trying to get a free rental.... well... good luck. Even the new release games - BF3, Batman, UC3, etc - are all hovering UNDER $20. Understandable considering what they were selling for last week; but pretty damn underwhelming considering Gamestop is basically matching the prices.

Anecdotal, for sure; but tonight I traded into GS for the first time in several months. About 10 games, and about 8 of them just got more credit at GS than I would have at BestBuy.

That said, I am tempted to find something good to flip for that $39.99 Goldeneye; but there's a fair chance I already have the game waiting under the Christmas tree, and so I'm hesitant.

OH! And lastly - I traded in my vanilla copy of Killzone 3 today to offset the purchase of a Helghast Edition... .... .... .... and I'm not banned! Yay! lol

I actually just need one "flip" from GS to BB, then I'm free of GS forever. I've got a $10 PUR coupon they wouldn't let me use on BF. Been spending a little time trying to find an "even money" flip but haven't found anything so far. Bah.

Shoulda hit when they had the B2G1 sale. Couple good flips were there.

Was funny I was converting some of my GS credit over and bought multiples of quite a few games at one store and they didn't bat an eye. Went to a second store just to pick up 3 halo 3s because me and a few friends wanted to play through and they denied me the purchase. I laughed because they were $5 games and why he even cared was beyond me. Reminded me why I don't go to GS anymore.

New to best buy trade ins, how exactly does this 50% bump work? Do you have to buy the $39.99 game and then they do the trade with an additional 50% value tacked on for your next purchase, or can you do the trade and use it to buy the 39.99 game?

Kinect Adventures.

$2GS->$2BB

Or is it one of those lame coupons that only work on one item..?

Trade first, can usually use the credit right then and there. Ive never not been able to, heard of a very ymmv where they wont let you do it...

Damn! I had a B2G1 that I knew was about to expire, and would have given it to you, but it's no longer there and must have expired LAST Monday.

EDIT: Ah, nevermind... I see; you wanna use up that $10 coupon. Eh, I know some even flips off hand, but nothing that'll turn a profit. I haven't done any GS->BBY flips in a while.
Kinect Adventures.

Or if he can't find any kinect adventures he could get 10 99 cent (89 with card) sports games from gs and trade them in at bestbuy. It's not much but you break even from base value at the start. That's what I do of I have useless left over gs credit. If the coupon is for one item like you said than he would be better saving it for a game he wants to play

not that you'd care (I wouldn't) but having a call with that employee's manager could net some hilarious results.

WTF with them not selling you 3 copies of a game every store has a stupid amount of stock of?

Looks like Best Buy trade ins are headed where i thought they'd be. Shit values, calling you a "bad customer" if you're not trading in for big losses towards the next EA sports game, and general disappointment.

Just checked in to see about some flips for that new asus tablet next week. doesn't sound worth it for BB anymore much.

Two Worlds II is still trading for 8 base to BB and 17.99 at GS. Ive used a few $10 coupons on them to get some credit transfered as well as the KA flip.

$18 -> $8 Base sounds pretty bad, lol.
$18 -> $8 Base sounds pretty bad, lol.
He said he was using $10 coupons on the game, so it essentially breaks even. Confoosious could do that if thats all he cares about doing.

Did people not expect massive drops after the BF/CM Deals?

I saw it coming, but there are still plenty of flips here where I'm at.

Some scarce GS ones, target, BBV and sears still has my flipping going strong.

The Trade in values are awful even with the 50% bonus. Sadly Gamestop values are better now looks likes it back to Entertainmart or Gamestiop for me.

RIP Best Buy
He said he was using $10 coupons on the game, so it essentially breaks even. Confoosious could do that if thats all he cares about doing.
But I don't want a rental. I just want to get around $10 of credit at BB or Amazon via a flip from GS using my coupon. (So I need a 1:1 flip regardless of the coupon.)

I thought about Heavy Rain Directors Cut but they probably wouldn't let me use the coupon on that either.

For those of you that happen to be in an area with it: Joma Luma (or something) Rugby is $35 used on GS and trades in for $38 on Amazon. Great way to transfer credit but there isn't a store around me with it used.

Everything I've traded recently or that I'm considering trading now(including the B2G1 Black Friday games which I'll probably blow through in the next day or two;)) will at least net me break even credit if not a profit outright.

So it's not the end of BB trading IF you know what to trade.
I've had them stack like 2 before, just wondering if anyone has snuck it past a BBY employee lol
considering the offer bonus are radial buttons, i highly doubt it.

Really?

Cause a local BBY manager I talk to just wanted to see and I saw that they didn't stack as they are radial buttons and once one is clicked the other is removed. But the GCU does stack if you meant that.
