BEST BUY'S VIDEO GAMES TRADE-IN PAGE

Check most up-to-date TIV using BB's Video Games Value Estimator.

In-store trades are now done at the Trade-In Counter at the Gaming Dept.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracks on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but major updates seem to come on Sunday and Tuesday nights (or at least have in the past). Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually.

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, but word is that will change soon.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll likely need a state ID.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return.
They had absolutely no idea, I mean seriously, who goes out to spend over $300 and doesn't even look in the sale ad first?
These are the people who do not care about prices and then complain when they are broke and demand a hand out. If a person cannot spend their own money wisely why the fuck would I want to give them my money expecting them to spend my money wisely?

Off topic but bestbuy gave me Catherine for 20 ! They did the gamestop price match and then they did the @gamer coupon overide. Anyone who says bestbuy sucks are dead wrong !!!!!!!!!

As for trade ins any new promos this week ?
I've found that growing up means not getting as much as you can as quickly as you can just because you can. You should learn it sometime.
I've found that growing up means you can have candy whenever the fuck you want. fuck yeah, adulthood!

And the OP is updated, so unless they throw in a random promotion mid-week, which they've never done before, best possible % bump is 40 with a pre-order and GCU.
heh, very true flamed. When I was in there yesterday though the gaming department was full of 50 year olds squinting at scribbled writing on paper and doing their best to sound out the name of some game their kids had put on their Christmas list.

yah...unfortunately all retail stores have to deal with elderly trying to find something they have no clue about. :D
Alright, bastard - I'm only 7 years away from being 50 and I don't consider myself anywhere near "elderly". I ought to ban your ass :bomb:.

However, I do agree that most of the people shopping there seem to have no idea about the sales. And it doesn't help when the gaming employees don't tell them about it. I saw a guy in there with 3 20-somethings with him (I take it 1 or 2 of them were his sons). He was picking up 2 copies of Saints Row 2 in the gaming section and talking to the employees there. Later I saw him at the register and he bought... 2 copies of Saints Row 2. Yeah, he completely missed out on the B2G1 (let alone the glitch which flew completely under the radar here on CAG - 3rd game was free no matter the cost all week up through Saturday evening when they finally killed it).

I was a bit surprised there wasn't any noise about the whole b2g1 thing - I think three or four of the last five b2g1 sales have had that same glitch in some form or another (I think it was the second game was always free a couple times?). It's like all the flipping has made our communal memory lapse! Good thing though, maybe it'll be back next round when I actually need it.

The average consumer does, of course. Those are the people that every retailer loves, since they're the ones buying the $100 Monster HDMI cables and the protection plans without batting an eye.

:bomb::bomb::bomb: I was relying on CAG's I know from PSN as well to go in store and test it out before then. Unfortunately they didn't and neither did anyone in either of the social groups I'm in on the net. So if anything, we were all too lazy to try without knowing for sure it'd work.

I tried once but that was with two games that were $29.99 originally but on sale that week for half that, since I didn't feel like spending $60 to get a $100 CE free.

If I didn't use my B2G1 coupon from the GCU welcome packet on BF to get 3 of those games for $60 I'd likely try it now.

When I was in the store trading yesterday some old guy asked the gaming employee what the name of the first Elder Scrolls game was. The employee told him Skyrim  I corrected him because well he was an idiot. After that I found out that I also got hit by the big floppy purple banhammer. Not surprised at all but it still sucks. Man I tried the B2G1 trick and I couldn't get it to work for the life of me. Not too big of a deal anyways, I already have more games than I will ever play from this year.

Yes I have been playing lots of Saint Row 3. Best weapon ever and one of the most overlooked games of the year.
Nothing beats skydiving off the top of a building naked then going on a murder spree with a purple dildo.

C'mon Io - do it for the senior crowd. Keep 'em off our lawn! :applause:
(I'm only a couple of months behind you...)

I find I'm now the most popular dad in the cul de sac. All of the neighborhood soccer mommies email and text me daily asking me about prices and deals and whatnot. And I'm happy to accomodate. :bouncy:

BTW - just did a test trade earlier this evening. I'm still good to go. I talked to the gaming super there and he hadn't heard of anyone being banned at his store. I dropped it at that point. No need to encourage the junior detectives of the world.

I'm in the over 3/system crowd, but under 5/system. About 100-120 total games traded, ~ $2000 in credit. No GC's, all store merchandise and no cancelled preorders.
Ugh, his is brand new, no chip
Not to mention he probably paid for it with giftcards instead of cash. When it comes to that choice it has to cost at least half of the price for anything under $30 before I'll pay cash instead. (I.e. $30 at Best Buy vs $15 at Half Price Books). Case and point, I could of gotten $60 in gift cards and spent $169 out of pocket on a 3DS at Target on Friday, but I'd rather spend nothing out of pocket and get a $50 gift card instead.

I'm also the local "hero" for deals among friends and associates. People who know me well do not make a big purchase without asking me first if it is a good deal. In addition to being a Best Buy Trade-in Pimp, I'm also a Target Clearance Demi-God and a Blockbuster Super Hero around these parts.

yeah my boss just asked me the other day to find some deals on games. I was bout to get uncharted 3 for 45(they were more than happy) when it popped up for $40 on amazon, no tax free shipping. Ordered it thursday and it got here friday by 3pm. they think i am amazing, could have charged more, but im a nice guy so $40 and im good.

That's how my one buddies' bro-in-law is. He used to call me 'the gypsy' cuz I'd always mention these insane deals I would get. But the last couple Christmases either he or his wife asked me to look for game deals for their kids.

I don't think I ever had THAT much credit anywhere at one time, though over the years of flipping to GS I probably went through around five to six grand of it easily.

I can't believe the B2G1 was glitched again in-store! I honestly heard no mention of the possibility, or just skimmed over it this week..damn! A friend and I had so much fun a few years ago with Rock Revolution. :) At least I was able to get in on the short-lived Kinect Disneyland, and all of my stuff managed to ship (GoW3 Epic, MW3 Hardened, Skyrim CE PC)

My 9 year-old will be a happy kid on Christmas day and so will I:

Kirby Mass Attack + Professor Layton Last Specter (for me) + Skylanders Mega Pack = $59.98... Cashier said that was awesome and was going to go get one for her kids ;).

As far as I know it was not discussed here on CAG after the initial reports of it working Sunday AM and then being killed off later in the day. But someone mentioned they got a Skylanders pack free that way in the Best Buy DotD thread on Monday and it was mostly ignored in that thread (there was like one follow-up comment). It must have gotten reactivated between Sunday evening and Monday. I happened to be out at dinner when I read that and was near a Best Buy so I stopped in to give it a shot and got the deal above. Much to my surprise it then worked again on Thursday (when I got the 3DS version of the game for the exclusive figures - will probably sell the game part). I thought maybe it just worked with Skylanders (which was fine with me since that's what I wanted anyway), but someone else told me it worked on other stuff and was still going even on Saturday morning but then got killed later in the day.

And yeah, as for gaming deals, I know a few people who come to me for deal info (though not as many as you would think ;)). I was actually impressed that my son's schoolmate's mom found out about the Disneyland Adventures glitch all on her own! She is a huge Disnay fanatic, though, and probably heard about the $19.99 sale price. But kudos to her for placing an order online for store pickup and being aware of the B2G1. She just got a couple of $40 games for the other 2, but that's better than most "civilians" do (like the guy I saw buy 2 copies of Saints Row 2 in store the other day with no free third game at all). I actually got on to Facebook to tell her about the Disney glitch because I knew she'd be interested in it and she had already done it.

my friends also ask me to find deals for them. But they are so impatient, they think I have magic and can get items for them half the price within 2 days. They also have the idea that I know some black market website that sell items for cheap. So when I mention that I buy stuff at Bestbuy and Amazon, they can't believe it. haha

Has anyone found the shipping label print-out is messed up when trading to TRU online? The shipping label just moved to the next page and overlapped with the invoice. Is there any solution to fix it? Sorry this is off topic. I just didn't find a TRU trade-in thread. Thanks ahead.

tru's shipping labels always mess up on me like that no matter how i try to print them, luckily the tiv's never dropped so i havent had to use those messed up labels...
Weird that it was so low key, cause I know that I knew it was working from this site. It was why when I picked up three games (two 3DS games for my new 3DS) I intentionally put the most expensive game on the bottom of the pile.

I just found out two solutions:

1. Copy them to a word file and print it out.

2. Change to landscape and just print out page 2 and 3.

i really didn't try that hard just the print me button and control P.
thanx forinter for the solutions. hopefully the tiv's dont drop and we can go instore.
going instore just makes me see how clusterfkcd they are this time of year tho at cs with all these teens running things and having no idea what is going on. lol, i was helping them the other day and i dont work there, haha. but i dont think anyone has any clue of tru's limits or policies or anything. so idk

I have a feeling someone here will do there best to find out. :)
Yeah, he completely missed out on the B2G1 (let alone the glitch which flew completely under the radar here on CAG - 3rd game was free no matter the cost all week up through Saturday evening when they finally killed it).
Well fuck. I tried that on Sunday with a :ps3: SR2, a :360: SR2 and the GoW Epic edition last... It made SR2 free and GoW was still 109... I figured they had fixed it already. Maybe it only made the 3rd one free dependent on price.

He said it ended Saturday night, you tried on Sunday....

It wasn't glitched the same way the coupon is. You had to go out of your way to glitch it. I did it on a bunch of SR3 and Skyrim, but yeah I didn't even think to pick up Skyrim CE that way. Oh well.

I was semi-curious why no one mentioned it throughout the week... I got a text from my employee friend about it on Monday.

It's amazing several CAGs new about it and made no effort to share, yet took advantage of the glitch. I could tell it was active because you, gbastar, and some of the other resellers/flippers were quiet about it. (I could not reproduce it in store).

Honestly I expect it's just the result of the direction things have gone here. When a glitch is posted it's abused within an inch of its life so fast now that most folks don't even get a shot at it before corporate's ears perk up and a shotgun fix is in place. So "sharing" a glitch really doesn't benefit a lot of people like it used to as it just gets closed faster when the first readers go in and buy (for example) 2 x 4.99 games and a skyrim ce rings up free.

So, any third scanned game became free? If that's so, that's a pretty awesome deal.

If the B2G1 wasn't limited to $29.99 and OVER titles this time, I would've exploited that shit like a motherfucker.:lol: That I can most certainly guarantee you.;)

If the LOTR: WITN and UC3 CE's that I saw earlier today at the further BB are still there whenever they run the next one of these sales, you better believe those are my first targets.;)

yeah i totally missed on this glitch and the target gc debacle. oh wells
off topic kinda but on tru flipping, it seems no limit/etc yet
they don't even need my id, just ask for my birthday.
i had to tell the girl today that i believe im supposed to sign something, and she's like idk, so i pulled the sheet from the printer and signed it and walked away ;) im a good guy
but yeah.... 12 dnf's and a handful of madden 11's/brink/gh wor's/etc @ tru from bbv...
my dnf's have had a wild ride from bb -> bbv -> bbv -> tru , haha 5->17, then 5->12.75 ;)

I am not purposely withholding information from you guys, nor did I abuse the shit outta it myself. It wasn't just "get the third game free", the prices had something to do with it. I still don't know the details about what worked and what didn't.

I did withhold the GCU coupon details because I knew a lot of people were looking to use it on BF, but even after BF and two weeks.. they still haven't fixed it. So idk, BBY's IT team is amazingly incompetent.

Does every store do the trade-in? I just sent out 4 games through UPS.

Yeah the programmers always "seem" to mess up on the B2G1 coding. First day is always the best day to take advantage of any glitch like this before it gets fixed.

This would be the 3rd or 4th time within a few years that depending on how the games ring up the total price is different. Last year it was the sandwich trick where the middle game rang up free, which was epic for those that got it to work when buying 2 Rock Revolutions for $5 ea and getting the $60 game free. How was last week ringing up, and how consistent was it?

I think he meant he tried it the first Sunday of the B2G1. Supposedly it worked in the AM (this was discussed in one of the BB threads) but then was killed off. So I guess everyone just assumed it was dead. Apparently it still worked on a lot of things or came back the next day - not sure which.

It was posted in the Best Buy DotD thread on Monday and that's where I saw it. I saw no need to follow up since it was mentioned there and discussed briefly - not to mention that since it was a "glitch" and being a mod, I really shouldn't be promoting stuff like that. I don't read the deal threads that are stickied at the top so I just assumed, at first, that it was known there. But when I checked this weekend I saw it had not been mentioned - and by then it wss finally killed off.

Don't get me wrong, I'd be right behind you in line and feel free to slap anything that sounds holier than thou right out of my mouth. I'm just saying that making a big stink about glitches as soon as possible is now a pretty sure fire way to have the glitch fixed with a quickness. I could care less if anyone wants to do so or if anyone feels like taking bby to the cleaners in the process.

Back on topic, I thought I'd heard that it was planned to be able to store credit on your rz card. Is that fantasy?

Only way I was able to get it working was 1 SR3, then followed by 2 Skyrims. Got Skyrim free.

If it was 2 SR3 then Skyrim, it would still give me SR3 free. So... no clue really. Something was up.

That's the reason I didn't even think to try the CEs; since their price was so different.

I guess I should just throw this out there. GCU coupon right now you could get two copies of Shift 2 (on clearance for $9.50) and a $39.99 game free. Trade Shift 2s to Microcenter for $20 each. Free $39.99 game and $20 MC credit.

For the uninformed and lazy I guess. In fact, there are so many goddamn titles on clearance right now at BBY. I've had to jot everything down manually though -.-
