For those that were speculating, I can confirm that the program will be starting up again on 7/15/2012 and running until 8/11/2012. Just like last time it will be good for ANY blu ray 9.99 and up.

There was a note in the terms of this promotion that this time around if you visit the best buy mobile dept in the first week and do a free upgrade check for your cell phone account, it will entitle you to one trade and save coupon for the $5 off a blu.

Now, here are some commonly asked questions.

1. How does this work?

Basically, you bring in a DVD to Customer Service and they will give you a $5 off Blu-Ray coupon. Pretty simple.

2. Can you use it on any Blu-Ray?

Only on Blu-Rays $9.99 and up. Previously, music Blu-Rays have been excluded, but everything else is game.

3. Is there a limit of coupons you can receive?

5 per day seems to be the limit.

4. When does the coupons expire?

Last day of the promotion (8/11).

5. Do multiple disc DVDs = multiple coupons?

No. If you trade in a TV show season boxset = 1 coupon, not 3 or 4.

6. Can I trade in ANY DVD?

Naturally, they won't accept DVD-R/RW's nor will they accept pornos. So, no trading in Wii Like 2 fuck Part 3.

7. Can this be applied to past orders?

No. At most you can do a return/rebuy, but you would have to pay the current price so it may not be worth it.

8. Do I get the coupon back if I return the Blu-Ray I used a coupon on?

YMMV. Rule of thumb, be sure you are content with what you're getting before you use a coupon on it.

9. Do the DVDs I trade have to have the actual artwork and any inserts?

YMMV, but unless you get a real douche at CS, most won't care as long as it's in a case. (Generic DVD case will do)

10. I'm low on DVDs, any suggestions?

Dollar stores and places like Big Lots will occasionally carry $1 DVDs that you can get to trade in to Best Buy. Garage sales work as well if you can find one that is selling DVDs on the cheap.

11. Do coupons stack?

Nope. 1 coupon = 1 Blu-Ray purchase. Of course you can use multiple coupons in one transaction if you are purchasing the same amount of Blus.
I feel like there was a rule before where you had to use the coupon that day when you got it - was that ever true?
No.

Although some stores give you a receipt from the trade-ins and you have to show them the receipt when you use the coupon.
I've read through the whole thread and didnt see this asked or answered.

Any clue as to how long the coupons last? A day, a week, a month, ect...
Errr...it's clearly stated in the OP.

So when you trade in a DVD, do you get any credit for that too (like video game trade-in) or do you just get the $5 coupon?

Just the coupon.

Awesome! I will be buying those for sure.

Picked it up for $10 about two weeks ago. Will be taking that puppy back to the store on Thursday!
Has anyone had issues with this when trading the DVDs in? cause the CSRs at my Best Buy are a combination lethal of clueless and dicks.

There are horror stories every time this promotion happens. Personally it's never been an issue for me, but who knows how your neighborhood store will handle it. If you look up previous promotion threads you'll see a lot of awful stories where the customer knows more about the deal than the CSR.
Worst shopping experience of my life thanks to Best Buy. Last time they had this promotion, it took me three hours across two different stores to get this to work for me because of poor customer service. One store forgot to give me the coupon and didn't have what I wanted in stock while the other store's CSR called me a scammer because I didn't do the trade-in there. Even when the manager showed up and fixed everything, the CSR employee and manager were still fighting over this.

Indiana Jones made some great points which I wanted to add additional comments to:
You also need to be careful about what kind of voucher you get. Sometimes they don't give you anything and ask that you bring the Blu-rays you want back to the service desk. Sometimes they'll give you a cardboard voucher for each DVD. Sometimes it's one voucher stapled to a receipt that tells you how many you get.

Once you trade in your DVDs, you aren't getting them back, so it might be good to see if they have the same amount of Blu-rays in stock you want to trade for before trading in the DVDs because you're gonna be stuck and will need to use them or lose them. Of course, if you get multiple cardboard vouchers, you can just leave with them and use them whenever before the expiration date.

The biggest pain is when the CSR has no clue about this trade-in program.
Don't let the customer service person try to convince you they can do a return override because it won't work. Once the DVD is behind the counter, the deal is done.

Also make sure you get a receipt for the trade AND a physical coupon. I made this mistake thinking it was printed on the receipt since no coupon was originally given to me.

It's also a great idea to make sure they have the Blu Ray you want in stock first so you don't have to wait in line to get the coupon only to find out they don't have what you want.

If you end up going to another store to use the coupon and they say you can only use it at the Best Buy where you brought in the DVD, call a manager immediately and watch how a manager teaches an employee how to do their job.

Seriously, customer service at Best Buy is embarrassing. Besides not knowing how this promotion worked, the CSR at the first Best Buy I visited didn't even know how to use the phone to call another store.

With Ice Age is iit a free movie ticket or one of those "5 dollars off admission" deals?

To add to this: What has worked best for me is to bring my old DVDs and desired BDs to the CS desk at the same time. Unless there's a big line, they'll usually process both transactions for you (the trade-in and the purchase).

I saw the Sticker outside the Blu-ray Case but not 100% sure is $5 off or 100% free movie ticket. But, i'll get both ice age 1 & 2 combo pack this sunday :)

I sear the last time they offered this, it was 5 dollars off selected movies, and the selected movies had stickers on them. The movies they had selected were way overpriced. i am hoping this is wrong as they are a few movies i would love to get, and I have plenty of DVDs to trade, and it would stretch my bi-weekly blu ray money.

Nope, last time the only restriction was it had to be 9.99 or higher. I ended up with about 50 new blu's in my collection.

Cool, Ty I guess I should read the sale better. I guess it works with great synergy if you buy movies with DC, UV, movie rewards, or movie ticket codes that you can use to trade for other items. I had been using the UV codes, but now I think i might trade them for titles I dont have as my new blu ray player has VuDu.

They haven't had the $5 off selected movies stipulation for a while... figured the extra work putting labels on movies was too much of a hassle so they changed it to all blus 9.99 and lower

I do wish that they allowed the coupon to be used on 7.99 titles to bring them to $5...

gah...so...many...errors

so for my clarification, i trade in any acceptable dvd for a 5 dollar coupon i can used towards the purchase of new bluray (9.99 and up) of my choosing?

i was under the impression it had to be the same dvd/bluray.
ex. trade in Sin City DVD, get 5 dollar coupon good towards Sin City BluRay

This is like the fourth time this promotion has ran and this question gets asked every time. Let's put it to rest.

ANY DVD for ANY BLU $9.99 or above. It DOES NOT have to be the same title.

Looks like I'll be getting The Dark Knight and Batman Begins Steelbooks from this. Nothing else right now jumps out at me. I already own Batman Begins on HD-DVD and The Dark Knight on BR. For $10 I get both movies and steelbooks and $10 off seeing The Dark Knight Rises which I was going to see anyway. Plus I can sell off my copy of TDK for like $5 to a friend perhaps.

Wait so you're telling me...I can trade in Pee-Wee's Big Adventure on DVD...and I can get $5 off ANY Blu-Ray that is $10 or more....I dunno I don't think that's how this works, it sounds too good to be true. ;) Sorry I had to.

thats what i assumed but never saw specific wording. despite this being the 4th time the deal has been run, it's new to me. i am a infrequent shopper of movies and am not always in the know.

but THANKS For CLARIFYING this DEAL
So was the whole "cell phone upgrade check" thing clarified? From this: http://www.examiner.com/slideshow/j...ices-for-dvd-and-blu-ray-deals#slide=49823301
it sounds like it's 1 upgrade check = 1 coupon and 1 coupon/customer?
I read it like you get a coupon as an incentive for doing an upgrade check - no trade in of your old DVD needed. I don't think the 2 promotions are related on the front end, just the purchasing, so it sounds like you can still trade in 5 DVD's a day plus this.

Just so you know, I didn't make the text big and red to emphasize it, I made it big and red for anyone scrolling through the thread with the same question. Large, red text grabs people's attention.

Interested in DK steelbook and MI4 for 5 bucks each. Do they scan your fingerprinted like when you trade in games and all that because I not sure if my dvds imma trade in are working. They scratch the fuck up.

You must frequent my local BB.
Can you use a $5 RZ certificate as well as one of these coupons to get a movie for free?
tried it last time but there was a little bit of problem. luckily she was able to make it work somehow. because the RZ certificate brings it down pre-tax so it went down to 4.99 and the coupon is 5 bucks off. haha yeah not sure what the worker did exactly, but made it work.
Woohoo, glad I held off on the Batman Begins Steelbook. They'll apparently still be $9.99 next week, or $5 after upgrade and save
If this is true, mine is going back and I'll grab it at $4.99 instead.

A BB cashier who was helpful?

OK just wanna make sure about this.

Say I get something like the Die Hard collection. Since it's 4 movies could I technically make a loop hole where I can use 4 of the coupons or would I only be allowed to use one cause all 4 are in one case?

Only one coupon, seeing as that's sold as one item. Basically, one coupon per SKU.

haha yeah, it was actually the gaming supervisor who has helped me a lot.

My local store has high turnover, probably everyone who works the floor/cashier are low paid part time people with no benefits. I never see anyone over 25 being hired, just a bunch of college kids, so they seem hip and tech knowledgeable.
Will the Best Buy Exclusive Edition of MI:4 be at the $9.99 price as well?
If you can find one yes

The coupons don't stack... best buy would just be giving away movies for free in that case...

As for why the reward zone/ coupon on a 9.99 blu ray wouldn't normally work... the coupon drops the disc price to 4.99 and to use a reward zone certificate the pre tax total needs to be $5 or over. I ran into this problem using a $10 code on a 9.99 movie. I had to throw in a candy bar to get it to work...
If you can find one yes
It's not confirmed that the BB exclusive MI:GP will be on sale.

If the exclusive one IS on sale, I WILL rebuy the movie at that price, my location has a TON of copies as of yesterday... if not, Ill be happy with the version I bought for about $2 (moviestop trade in of clearance blockbuster blu rays)

sorry if this is the wrong place to ask.

I called my closest best buy which is 30 minutes away and they left me on hold for 20 minutes twice, and one time just hung up. So obviously I did not get my answer.

Does anyone know if the the blade blurays will still be 9.99 this following week as well? I know there is a shelf liner/tag that usually states how long an item will remain on sale, but they would not get back to me with that info. thanks.

Glad someone else partakes in the awesome MovieStop trade deals :)

got t invite for private sale sunday nite. is it worth it to go for double pts, and would it work w U&S. like if i get 9.99 Blu-rays, use the coupon for $5 off and still get pts as if Id spent $10. in that case i might go, although i hear theres nothing really special about the events
Glad someone else partakes in the awesome MovieStop trade deals :)
They are pretty awesome... If there were more locations across the country, that 2 for 1 trade in deal would be huge news. I probably have about ten titles paid for on reserve there right now that I paid a fraction for...
If you haven't, sign up for the text sale alerts too... I've taken advantage of some nice BOGO and 50% off deals to score some nice titles for cheap.
I was just in Best Buy and saw a memo that said that it also includes music Blu-Rays this time around.
It included them last time... I have the Rush blu rays to prove it
I remember on the coupon it said it excluded them.
no, that was a couple of times ago...

the last time they did allow music blu rays! it was the time before they were specifically excluded and mentioned on the coupon they gave you when you traded...
