For those that were speculating, I can confirm that the program will be starting up again on 7/15/2012 and running until 8/11/2012. Just like last time it will be good for ANY blu ray 9.99 and up.

There was a note in the terms of this promotion that this time around if you visit the best buy mobile dept in the first week and do a free upgrade check for your cell phone account, it will entitle you to one trade and save coupon for the $5 off a blu.

Now, here are some commonly asked questions.

1. How does this work?

Basically, you bring in a DVD to Customer Service and they will give you a $5 off Blu-Ray coupon. Pretty simple.

2. Can you use it on any Blu-Ray?

Only on Blu-Rays $9.99 and up. Previously, music Blu-Rays have been excluded, but everything else is game.

3. Is there a limit of coupons you can receive?

5 per day seems to be the limit.

4. When does the coupons expire?

Last day of the promotion (8/11).

5. Do multiple disc DVDs = multiple coupons?

No. If you trade in a TV show season boxset = 1 coupon, not 3 or 4.

6. Can I trade in ANY DVD?

Naturally, they won't accept DVD-R/RW's nor will they accept pornos. So, no trading in Wii Like 2 fuck Part 3.

7. Can this be applied to past orders?

No. At most you can do a return/rebuy, but you would have to pay the current price so it may not be worth it.

8. Do I get the coupon back if I return the Blu-Ray I used a coupon on?

YMMV. Rule of thumb, be sure you are content with what you're getting before you use a coupon on it.

9. Do the DVDs I trade have to have the actual artwork and any inserts?

YMMV, but unless you get a real douche at CS, most won't care as long as it's in a case. (Generic DVD case will do)

10. I'm low on DVDs, any suggestions?

Dollar stores and places like Big Lots will occasionally carry $1 DVDs that you can get to trade in to Best Buy. Garage sales work as well if you can find one that is selling DVDs on the cheap.

11. Do coupons stack?

Nope. 1 coupon = 1 Blu-Ray purchase. Of course you can use multiple coupons in one transaction if you are purchasing the same amount of Blus.

I have TF-DotM and I just redeemed it for $14.99 more amazon video credit!! Thanks for the heads up.

BTW, I was able to redeem both UV copies as well - but could not re-use the codes for iTunes, WMP, ect....
I don't think they can re-sell them, otherwise they'd have to tracking personal information like they do for video game trade-ins. I think they just recycle them.

They just want people to buy blu-rays (probably so they can eliminate carrying DVDs).
Just out of curiosity, I wonder how does Best Buy make money when the BluRay is on sale 9.99, then they take $5 off and sell to you for $4.99 for this promotion and they don't really re-sell your trade-in DVDs. I would think the cost of the Bluray (eg. Batman Steelbook, MI4,etc) itself is more than $5 isn't it and wouldn't this turn into a loss for them?

I'm sure they get some sort of incentive bonus from the BD distributors, so the $5 coupon isn't totally on Best Buy.

And i have to agree that they are recycling them. The BB I went to yesterday has a garbage can along the wall behind Customer Service that has a trade and save flyer attached to it, and they are just throwing the traded DVDs into it.

Perhaps they can claim a loss and get some kind of tax break or bouns for being green;)
Nice list.

What's nice for me is that MovieStop is still giving like $5 in trade for MI:GP... 2 of those gets me any new release Bluray for free when I trade them... I'm gonna have a lot of amazon instant vid credit and every new release for the next 3 months :)

Just an FYI: Im chatting with Amazon. and the code is applicable only to MI GP not all movies.

Someone should try to see if they use the code, then the other like $5 is released to be used freely, because I got the wrong idea from this

I deleted my last post. Tried to use my credit on two movies. It charged by card, Im chatting Amazon and this person is trying to tell me my Instant Video Credit isn't useable on instant video items, but Amazon.com purchases.....I think I have them very confused.

I will update if I ever get a solution

OK... So from the list of Paramount DVDs...

7.99 (U&S doesn't work)
No Strings Attached
Paranormal Activity 3
Super 8
True Grit
Justin Bieber Please Die

9.99 (4.99 with U&S)
Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol

17.99 (12.99 w/ U&S)
Rango

19.99
Tin Tin
Footloose

29.99
Puss in Boots (3d is 19.99)
Transformers DotM
Kung Fu Panda 2
Captain America
Thor

...So if you;re looking for Amazon movie credit, there are options...

^^^
Yeah before you go buy movies trying to get $200 in credit, make sure it works. They are not able to figure it out for me.

I couldn't use it on a video and they keep trying to tell me its like a physical item credit.

My rep I got in chat told me it can only be used on the movie I got the credit with. Thus I can only use it to get Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol. Damn you Amazon.

they kept trying to tell me it was for physical items so after about 30 minutes of chatting with two different people, they just deleted that credit and gave me $15 straight up for whatever.

So BEWARE using these codes

Ugh. That sucks... So it'll just show a 5.00 credit for the rest of forever, since MI:GP only costs 9.99??? Weird...

I'll probably still pick up No Strings Attached, True Grit and Super 8, after I check the values at MovieStop. If I can get 3 good digital copies, and still get a couple of new releases, it's worth it to me.
My rep I got in chat told me it can only be used on the movie I got the credit with. Thus I can only use it to get Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol. Damn you Amazon.
Well, this makes for a problem, since the credit received for the code is 14.99, but MI:GP is only 9.99. So, basically, you are left with an unusable $5 in your account? That could be confusing...

Yeah I was thinking the same thing about the other $5 sitting there forever since the cost of Ghost Protocol is only $9.99

Maybe I will make a purchase like This and startup a chat session as well.

Well in 2 days I picked up

Batman Begins
The Dark Knight
Blade
Blade II
Blade Trinity
Constantine
V for Vendetta
300
The Matrix
Matrix Reloaded/Revolution double

7 of them came with $5 movie cash to the Dark Knight Returns so I guess I am treating my family to movie night (most likely afternoon).

I am interested to know what happens with all this amazon credit. If it is good for just that one movie...then it really shouldn't give us "generic" credit.

The amazon credit you get from redeeming a digital movie is only applicable to the movie you got the code from.

I asked about this before when I bought True Blood and they gave me amazon credit.
It would only apply to True Blood S4 and nothing else...not even S1.

Weird, so the $5 is basically forfeit...
Weird, so the $5 is basically forfeit...
That is indeed weird. Voucher is worth $14.99, movie is 9.99, so balance is $5 which cannot be used for other stuff.

traded in 5 and used 4 coupons so i have one left.Striptease, Gettysburg, MI Ghost $5 and Smokey & the Bandit for $8. of course had to hunt for the correct copies of MI & Gettysburg. so have to debate if I get Blade or something else w the extra coupon

Thinking about Clash of the Titans (steelbook), Butterfly Effect and the 3 Blade movies. Been a while since I watched any of these. Does Blade hold up at all against the recent super hero type movies? I remember Clash of the Titans to be not horrible, but not great either and Butterfly Effect to be much better than expected.

Any opinions?

Well, that sucks.

Where in Dollar Tree stores do you guys generally find they place their DVDs? Been to two locations and only found a single DVD.

I was on here the other day bitching about how my Best buy couldn't get the upgrade and save promotion to work correctly. I went to another BB and they straightened it out. They told me it was a "glitch" because the cashier totaled all 6 coupons (5 trade ins and 1 cell phone) in one transaction. They told me the maximum for 1 transaction is 5 coupons. I don't know how true this is.

The problem was that I was returning seasons 1, 2, 3, and 4, of Battlestar Galactica and buying them back with two other movies. She did this all in 1 transaction and scanned the coupons super fast and hit total immediately. She handed me back about .70 cents worth of change instead of about $15.70. They couldn't give me a refund because the computer wouldn't allow it.

I'm very happy and thankful to get it straightened out today at a different BB. I ended up hitting up another BB on my way to the movies tonight.

Here's my haul so far (price is after upgrade and save coupon and in some cases, the Universal 100th anniversary coupon):

Battlestar Galactica - Season 1 - $14.99
Battlestar Galactica - Season 2 - $14.99
Battlestar Galactica - Season 3 - $14.99
Battlestar Galactica - Season 4 - $14.99
Children of the Corn 4 film collection - $4.99
From Dusk til Dawn 4 film collection - $4.99
The Prophecy 4 film collection - $4.99
Wes Craven 4 film collection - $4.99
The Fast and the Furious - $6.99 (also used Universal $3 coupon)
American Graffitti - $4.99 (also used Universal $3 coupon)
The Sting - $4.99 (also used Universal $3 coupon)
Parenthood - $1.99 (also used Universal $3 coupon)
Parenthood (gift) - $1.99 (also used Universal $3 coupon)
Babe - $1.99
Babe (gift) - $1.99
Insomnia - $4.99
Superman II (with dark knight movie credit) - $4.99
Mean Streets - $4.99
Spawn - $4.99
Blade II - $4.99
Stand By Me - $4.99

I had to hit up 3 Dollar Tree Stores for cheap DVDs. The first two stores were sold out, but the 3rd one had 8 movies. :whistle2:D

I accumulated all those Universal coupons because I have 4 computers at home and also used computers at work. My main computer I always use still wouldn't let me print out any coupons because I already printed out 2 during the last upgrade and save months ago. The 2 coupon limit is pretty annoying.

I wish I could pricematch these blurays I bought:
Blade
Blade Trinity
Batman Begins steelbook
The Dark Knight steelbook

The two batman films I bought over 30 days ago and I can't find the darn receipt for Blade and Blade 3. I'm just thankful to get the Battlestar Galactica seasons pricematched. All my stores got shipments and had exactly 2 copies of Season 1, 2, 3, and 4. They also had a bunch of seasons of 4.5 there to confuse the shit out of people and make them waste $19.99 :p

Oh shit. Are the non batman steelbooks still $9.99?!?!?!?

Today I saw the steelbooks for sucker punch, gran torino, sherlock holmes and more. I need to go back and buy them shits if I can get them for $4.99.

Nah, Clash of the Titans is on sale for 9.99 and I guess they extended to the steelbooks as well.

What's the deal with these steelbooks? I already own a couple of these movies, is there additional content other than the change in packaging?

Thanks,

If you are a rewards zone member or used a credit card, I think they should be able to look up the receipts for Blade. Worth a try.

Noticed that Moon on bluray is only $9.99. I found that to be one of the better sci-fi movies to be released in the last decade. Its also on available for streaming on Netflix if you're cheap.
So Best Buy does take the slim cases from dollar tree, correct? I've ran through all of my dvds.
Yep. I handed them 5 of the same slim case DVD last time and got my coupons.

I had a few closing blockbuster decent dvds in sleeves hoping they'd take it. They stupidly said no and I had to run to dollar tree and give them 5 identical still wrapped kiddy dvds to abide by their fine print. Thank you for tossing them in the dvd recycling bin in front of me and making me look like a tool. I spend alot there but I hope their stocks continue to drop.

Long shot but I'm guessing you can't trade in old Blu Rays? Would love to trade in my Dark Knight blu for the steelbook version.

Does this promotion work with HD DVDs that do not have the lining? What about DVDs that lack the DVD lining? I traded in some HD DVDs for blu-rays in that warner promotion and this would be a nice way to get rid of them.

They're not supposed to take them, but i suppose if you get a clueless enough employee, you might be able to pass them off as dvd's.

Good news. Bad news is my local Dollar Tree had no DVDs that I could see. I don't know where else to look and I literally have no DVDs left.

I had a first for an experience today. The guy only gave me one coupon and I thought he was just shorting me, but he said all that matters is the receipt that shows I traded in 5 DVDs. Pretty neat.

Sadly, my store was out of all the Ice Age movies, so hopefully they'll restock sometime this week. I ended up with:

Dazed and Confused
Mortal Kombat
Mortal Kombat: Annihilation (Yes, these are cheesy as hell, but $5 is worth it to hear the theme song again)
Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol
Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle

Ones on my wishlist for the next batch of rounds (if I can find some cheap DVDs):

Spawn
Blade 1, 2, 3
Ice Age 1, 2, 3
Austin Powers 1, 2, 3

Not sure what else.

Can someone check how long the Blus w/ Ice Age MMoney are on $10 sale via the shelf tags? I forgot to look while I got disappointed they were oos. Hope its another week or I'm gonna need to drive to other BBs quick. Thanks.

If I had to guess, it's likely not to be on sale after this current ad is done with.

I love the fact that Best Buy has the "Ice Age" Blu's in their ad and than only stock like three copies of each at every store. Not one store in my area has had the first "Ice Age" movie in stock since like Sunday afternoon.

Best Buy took all my crappy non-R1, foreign non-english DVDs, DollarTree DVDs and I got a few from Blockbusters as well (but they're in Amaray case) with the BB logo on it.

The clerks were given instructions to check to make sure as long as the DVDs were real and not the DVDR types (the purple side) and they have the coverart, they'll take 'em.
