For those that were speculating, I can confirm that the program will be starting up again on 7/15/2012 and running until 8/11/2012. Just like last time it will be good for ANY blu ray 9.99 and up.

There was a note in the terms of this promotion that this time around if you visit the best buy mobile dept in the first week and do a free upgrade check for your cell phone account, it will entitle you to one trade and save coupon for the $5 off a blu.

Now, here are some commonly asked questions.

1. How does this work?

Basically, you bring in a DVD to Customer Service and they will give you a $5 off Blu-Ray coupon. Pretty simple.

2. Can you use it on any Blu-Ray?

Only on Blu-Rays $9.99 and up. Previously, music Blu-Rays have been excluded, but everything else is game.

3. Is there a limit of coupons you can receive?

5 per day seems to be the limit.

4. When does the coupons expire?

Last day of the promotion (8/11).

5. Do multiple disc DVDs = multiple coupons?

No. If you trade in a TV show season boxset = 1 coupon, not 3 or 4.

6. Can I trade in ANY DVD?

Naturally, they won't accept DVD-R/RW's nor will they accept pornos. So, no trading in Wii Like 2 fuck Part 3.

7. Can this be applied to past orders?

No. At most you can do a return/rebuy, but you would have to pay the current price so it may not be worth it.

8. Do I get the coupon back if I return the Blu-Ray I used a coupon on?

YMMV. Rule of thumb, be sure you are content with what you're getting before you use a coupon on it.

9. Do the DVDs I trade have to have the actual artwork and any inserts?

YMMV, but unless you get a real douche at CS, most won't care as long as it's in a case. (Generic DVD case will do)

10. I'm low on DVDs, any suggestions?

Dollar stores and places like Big Lots will occasionally carry $1 DVDs that you can get to trade in to Best Buy. Garage sales work as well if you can find one that is selling DVDs on the cheap.

11. Do coupons stack?

Nope. 1 coupon = 1 Blu-Ray purchase. Of course you can use multiple coupons in one transaction if you are purchasing the same amount of Blus.

So far what I have picked is:

Diary of a Wimpy Kid ($5)
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Roderick Rules ($7.99)
Big ($5)
Full Metal Jacket ($5)
Constantine ($5)
Final Destination 5 ($5)

Going to get:

Date Night ($5)
Collateral ($5)

Question:

I've been thinking about getting Spawn and Get Him to the Greek, but I haven't seen Spawn in ages and Have never seen Get Him to the Greek. Are they worth getting?

I can't comment on Spawn, but if you end up only paying $5 for GHttG, it's worth it, in my opinion. Just to hear the ridiculous music is entertaining enough.
I wish they would put Resident Evil steelbooks onsale as well for 9.99 each.
I think the first 3 were Wal Mart exclusive.

I'm tempted to pick up Tales of Vesperia: First Strike. It's actually cheaper at Best Buy ($24.99) than at Amazon, and with the coupon it's only $20... hmm, decisions, decisions. They surprisingly had three in stock when I went just now to pick up Superman II and MI4.

Picked up:

Watchmen $5
Memento $5
Wanted $5
Kick-Ass $5
Firefly Complete Series $15

Now the question I have is the BBY associate rang everything up and then put my 5 coupons still stapled to the receipt into the bag. Are these usable again? Last time they took the coupons. If so I might go back for 5 more movies. If not then I am done at 15 total.
The inception steelbook will be 9.99 next week, so 5 bucks with coupon.
Awesome. I already bought the inception steelbook day 1 at fye but maybe I'll pick up a spare. Will the batman steelbooks still be $9.99 next week as well?

That's odd, I was thinking of doing the same thing. I've never played the game, but that movie looks sweet.

All five were WM exclusive and out of production. Some stores have leftovers, though. Good luck finding them.
I don't know if it is a silver perk on not, but I get copies of my receipts to my email address automatically.
cashiers have the option to send your receipt to your email. most people don't want them, so we don't even ask.

YES!!!! They are still good. This has happened to me twice and I have used them again.
Oh, wow. So I can get a coupon and get a (basically) free copy of Dark Knight steelbook since I wanna see DKR? Pretty sick.
yup, it's a great deal. the steelbook is pretty nice too. you also get an ultraviolet copy.

My dad would buy a lot of bootleg DVDs when he worked overseas for some ungodly reason. And I have a hard time telling which are real and fake cause there's a huge spindle with a mix of reals and fakes. Anyone can help me?

Also would printing cover art and sticking it on the DVD case be a bad idea?
Not sure if its been asked...but will they take multiples of the same dvd?
the two BB's I've gone to this week didn't even check the movies, they just counted how many there were, typed up the promo and gave me the receipt and coupon. So possibly YMMV.

Yeah, I picked up 4 copies of Dirty Sanchez at Big Lots for $1 each and they took em all. They have a ton more left there if anybody is in Sacramento.

I'm just going to reserve a spot now for my soon to be horror story from Best Buy. Happens every time I set foot in the store.

Here is the plan:
Pickup my Uncharted 3 CE in store pickup order which there was a mix up on the last time I went to pick it up (they tried to give me the standard version). The guy had a CE transferred from store B and "closed out my order". At the time I thought this meant he cancelled it and they would just get another one that I could come back and buy.

No, he marked off that I picked it up already. I find this out today when looking through my credit card charges and then checking the order on their site. Ugh. So I've got a hand written note from the worker there at the time telling one of the managers that there should be one there waiting for me to pick up. This is going to be a mess.

Also going to grab some more blus for the DVD trade in which was a nightmare last time I did it. Away we go...

i need more dvds to trade in. i want to pic up more blu rays. i only had about 15 dvds and traded them all already. i'm not sure dollartree in california carries dvds. big lots do, but i think the cheapest ones are $3. halp?

I just noticed this too. last time, they just scan and took it away, now they give it to the customer again. But, it doesn't matter. We will have to bring in the old DVDs for recycle.

As for recycle,.. I think they just throwing into the trash bin. Anyone wants to try to dumpster dive? :D

Some of the clerks are trained to watch for Burned DVDR. They usually purple on the readable side and also printed cover art (non-glossy type of paper).

Also, they don't even want to accept "real' DVDs if they are not in amaray case or have real coverart (for examples those from garage sale in CDs case or Blockbuster closing sale).

I have a quick question to anyone who knows anything about the Battlestar Galactica blu-ray sets. I have seasons 1-4, do I need season 4.5? I've never watched this show so I don't know anything about how it ran and what is included in 4, and 4.5.

The old season 4 was only half the season. The only ones you'll find now are the complete season 4 sets. Ignore 4.5. It's already in the 6 disc season 4 set.
What exactly do you have to do for the mobile phone upgrade check?
Give them your name, carrier, cellphone number and zip code. It was quick, easy and painless.

Thanks, thats what i meant to say,i found the first 3 back in April in a bin for $7.88.

Ok so no horror story with my trip to BB today surprisingly. They did not get my Uncharted 3 CE like they were supposed to a week ago (post #360..), but the store manager said they would get it and ship it directly to me via UPS. So as long as I actually get it, that works.

As for the DVD trade ins I got exactly what I wanted today and had no real issues finally. They did not have Stand By Me out so after looking for it for 20 minutes myself I decided to get some help and it ended up being in a box in the warehouse still. They went all out looking for it though so I appreciate that.

Got:
127 Hours
Stand By Me
The Butterfly Effect
Dark Knight Steel
Batman Begins Steel

They didn't have The Sandlot which is the only other one I really wanted =(
Give them your name, carrier, cellphone number and zip code. It was quick, easy and painless.
Awesome, thanks, because after today, I'm literally out of DVDs. Both Dollar Trees around here don't sell them either.

I was VERY happy to find out that my BB restocked all the Ice Age movies. I wasn't expecting to see an endcap full of them. So I picked up:

Ice Age
Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs
Ice Age: The Meltdown
Spawn

The Sandlot, Stand by Me, The Evil Dead, Creepshow, THX 1138, Escape From LA; all of these would be great $5 movies if there were any copies available in any of the stores nearby.

I can't complain too much. I did pick up Army of Darkness, Altered States, and both Batman steelbooks. Hopefully I'll also be able to pick up the new remaster of Total Recall for $5 when it comes out 07/31.

I have sometimes found dollar dvds at Family Dollar, Dollar General or Save a Lot if you have any of those stores near you.

i'll google, but sadly, i don't think i have any of these near me

actually there are a few 99 cent stores but i'll have to drive. hopefully they have dvds.

at least i know bestbuys is recycling these dvds and helping the environment.

what do they do with this? harass you in the future with cold calls to upgrade with them?

My last two waves:

We Need to Talk About Kevin 9.99
Human Planet 14.99
Firefly 14.99
Once Upon a Time in America 9.99
Crazy Heart 4.99

The Mel Gibson "Smile And Blow Me" Commemorative Wave:

The Patriot 4.99
Braveheart 9.99
Ransom 9.99
Maverick 4.99
Get the Gringo 12.99

Wanted Payback, but they didn't have it.

Also, of you look in Wal-Mart, they sometimes have boxes of DVDs up near the registers somewhere thy are $1. They're crappy old movies or cartoon collections in slim cases. They do have a barcode, though, so it's no issue for BB to take them.

Went over to Dollar Tree to pick up some more movies and they were still running their sale for the slim cases at $0.25/movie. I was surprised that a few of the movies I picked up this go around were $0.01 a dvd. I picked up 10 of the penny movies along with a few of the quarter ones. Hoping to find some more good movies for $5 at BB for the next week.

Gosh.. no more DVDs from my Dollar store.. but got to hit the garage sale this weekend.

Picked up the following:
Knights and Day
Army of Darkness
Evil Dead
Superman: The Movie
Superman II (Richard Donner Cut)

All $4.99 each after trade ins of my last DVDs.
Has anyone seen Insomnia in any of their local stores?
My store had like 4-5 copies of this when I went in to pick up Blade which they were now out of.

Damn, all three pages of stores close to me are showing unavailable. I'll check when I'm there but i didn't see any last time. Excellent film, vastly underrated
They are telling you whether or not you are eligible for an upgrade in hopes that you are and that you will upgrade with them. You get the coupon regardless, I just upgraded at Best Buy like a year ago.

My store (and every store anywhere close to me) shows unavailable, but I thought I saw a copy/copies when I went today. I could be mistaken but if you happen to go anyway be sure to double check for it.

Also, has anyone seen The Sandlot? It doesn't seem to exist in store. I saw a couple of the newer $10 Blus like Big, Sleepers, and 17 Again, but no Sandlot.

Also if anyone is going and doesnt go to BB too often, be sure to check everywhere. At my store they have the main aisles with the movies in alphabetical order, but then they also have a crap load of end caps and stand alone displays, along with a couple more random racks all with different titles on them.

They're all basically in the same large general area but it can be confusing the way they're set up if you don't know.

Traded in some more DVD's today and picked up the steel case bluray version of Batman Rises and the Dark Knight for $5 each. Redeemed both of the $5 off movie passes for The Dark Knight Rises so it was like getting both the movies for free. Going to see Batman tomorrow! Really nice Bestbuy is doing this again.

So I picked up Seasons 1-4 of Battlestar Galactica and I got to say I'm a bit disappointed...not in the show itself but the package. Box, spine, and case is beat up and I opened a brand new sealed package and found dusty finger prints.

I mean the case was probably customers/shippers man handling things but the dusty finger prints was kind of weird. I'm pretty sure I bought cleaner bootlegs then this.

Also my season 4 has scratches on two discs...so I guess I'm exchanging those. It's not bad so my PS3 might just be able to play it without skipping but I'm uptight about my my DVDs/Games/Blu-rays.

I've run out of things to pick up for now so I'm hoping there are good Blu-ray sales next week =)

Anyways my loot has been

#1
Batman: Steelbook
The Dark Knight: Steel Book
MI:4
Date Night
Matrix Reloaded/Revolution

#2
127 Hours
Kick Ass
Due Date
Black Hawk Down
Planet Earth

#3
Firefly
Battlestar Galactica 1-4

I ran out of DVDs though so I'm probably going to hit up the 99 Cent Store for some skater DVDs...depending on next week I guess.

And last 4 of SSAN, which is a deal-breaker for me. No reason that needs to be going through Best Buy's systems.

What kind of coupons are people getting from CS for this deal? They gave me a card that looks more like a promo for the deal than a coupon - in fact, I think the wording said something about bringing the card *and the coupon* to the cashier. However, the cashier just scanned the UPC on the card and it worked.
