For those that were speculating, I can confirm that the program will be starting up again on 7/15/2012 and running until 8/11/2012. Just like last time it will be good for ANY blu ray 9.99 and up.

There was a note in the terms of this promotion that this time around if you visit the best buy mobile dept in the first week and do a free upgrade check for your cell phone account, it will entitle you to one trade and save coupon for the $5 off a blu.

Now, here are some commonly asked questions.

1. How does this work?

Basically, you bring in a DVD to Customer Service and they will give you a $5 off Blu-Ray coupon. Pretty simple.

2. Can you use it on any Blu-Ray?

Only on Blu-Rays $9.99 and up. Previously, music Blu-Rays have been excluded, but everything else is game.

3. Is there a limit of coupons you can receive?

5 per day seems to be the limit.

4. When does the coupons expire?

Last day of the promotion (8/11).

5. Do multiple disc DVDs = multiple coupons?

No. If you trade in a TV show season boxset = 1 coupon, not 3 or 4.

6. Can I trade in ANY DVD?

Naturally, they won't accept DVD-R/RW's nor will they accept pornos. So, no trading in Wii Like 2 fuck Part 3.

7. Can this be applied to past orders?

No. At most you can do a return/rebuy, but you would have to pay the current price so it may not be worth it.

8. Do I get the coupon back if I return the Blu-Ray I used a coupon on?

YMMV. Rule of thumb, be sure you are content with what you're getting before you use a coupon on it.

9. Do the DVDs I trade have to have the actual artwork and any inserts?

YMMV, but unless you get a real douche at CS, most won't care as long as it's in a case. (Generic DVD case will do)

10. I'm low on DVDs, any suggestions?

Dollar stores and places like Big Lots will occasionally carry $1 DVDs that you can get to trade in to Best Buy. Garage sales work as well if you can find one that is selling DVDs on the cheap.

11. Do coupons stack?

Nope. 1 coupon = 1 Blu-Ray purchase. Of course you can use multiple coupons in one transaction if you are purchasing the same amount of Blus.

i think that he just subtracted a dollar from each movie since he used a 5 dollar reward zone certificate.

I thought I could get the Life - David Attenborough narratted (1080p) version but unfortunately, that's one is not on sale for 19.99. Got the Oprah Winfrey version (1080i) instead. Tried to have BB clerk price adjust .. but no go. He found another copy in the back room. With the $5 off coupon, got it for $14.99 plus tax.

Damnit!! Thanks for posting. My fiance and I picked up Planet Earth (Attenborough) and Life, and I didn't even think of checking which version of Life she picked up until I just read your post. Sure enough, it's the O version... :(

BTW - I can confirm that the first Ice Age is still 9.99 before coupon as of today.

I want to thank everyone for posting that they picked up Battlestar Galactica. I didn't realize how good of a deal $15/season was until all of your posts made me look into it further. $60 for the series is a lot better than $120-$180. I never watched it when it was on TV, but I've heard nothing but good things about the show.

Today I added the following to my list of purchases:
Battlestar Galactica Seasons 1-4
Stand By Me (found one!)
Tin Man (wish I could find my DVD case in order to trade those back in)

I also picked up True Grit (2010) and Platoon but those were both $7.99, so no coupons there.

Go ahead and start laying the groundwork for the 3-4 days you'll be calling into work sick.

Life - 1080p - David Attenborough's (UK/International) - 550 mins
Life - 1080i - Oprah Winfrey (Discovery channel) - 450 mins. :censored:

As side note, . they put up the David Attenborough's Planet Earth for sale but not the Sigourney Weaver's version (Discovery channel). Best Buy is not consistent here.

BB should put all the UK BBC documentaries on sale to promote the Olympics :bouncy:

Got all 3 Ice Ages ( they are in fact 9.99 each despite the price not being reflected online) 9.99 each
Boss 17.99
Life 6.99

How did you get Life for 6.99?

Haha! I'm a dumbass and totally forgot about the Eddie Murphy movie...
How is Boss?
I actually never saw it, but it has Kelsey Grammer, so I assume good. Plus a few people I knew recommended it and I'm into politics, so this seemed like a show I would enjoy. 17.99 seems like a decent price for a newly released season of a premium channel show
How did you get Life for 6.99?
I'm talking about the newly released( on blu ray) Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence comedy. 11.99 -5

Don't feel bad, I've been wondering for days why people were talking about going out and picking up Life on Tuesday. I'd just stare at the screen and think "Why would you wait until Tuesday, it's been out for two years?"

I was able to price match B&N's Criterion Rushmore price and use the $5 off coupon. ($19.99 - $5)

$15. Pretty happy.

I thought everyone was talking about the documentary...

Saw the ad for next week earlier today at a Best Buy and aside from new releases it's just Carry over deals again. Nothing about Life, Planet Earth, Human Planet, Firefly or any other TV shows however, so this week might be it for them so get yours now. But a lot of the same 9.99, 14.99, and 17.99 BDs are in there, so I'm guessing those will all remain unchanged. I think Chariots of Fire was 17.99( 12.99 with coupon) and Hatfield's and McCoys was 20 bucks with a coupon. i think i might go for that since the Amazon price is 35.99 as of right now
Go ahead and start laying the groundwork for the 3-4 days you'll be calling into work sick.
Just finished watching them tonight. I didn't call in to work sick so it took me a little over a week to watch every episode. Damn good show.

M
Yup, it's $9.99 in store now, too. I just exchanged my 2-disc for a 3-disc with minimal hassle.
Same here (changed out the 2-disc MI:GP for the 3-disc version, moving the coupon from one sale to the other).

I took 5 in to upgrade today and snagged:

Ice Age: The Meltdown -$5
Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs -$5
Date Night -$5
127 Hours -$5
Sucker Punch (which is the Combo pack even though it doesn't say so on the case) -$5

and picked up a $7.99 copy of Super 8 that had been oos until today.

I'll probably wait to see what comes out next week before I make another run...

I also pawnshopped a little today and picked up Moneyball (Blu) and Conan 2011 (3D Blu Combo) for $14 and Billy Madison and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs both on DVD, $2 combined. Not a bad haul for the day...

Ended up blind buying BSG Seasons 1-4 on Blu. I couldn't find a copy of "The Plan" however and the stock checker is unavailable for this item. >=0 Ended up with the South Park Movie, which rang 7.99, so the last coupon just kinda got wasted. Whatever. I've got more DVD's to pass off if I can find The Plan anywhere.
Odd question, does anybody know if they'll take exercise DVDs? The only exclusions the OP makes is no DVD-Rs and no porn, lol.
Yes they should
Odd question, does anybody know if they'll take exercise DVDs? The only exclusions the OP makes is no DVD-Rs and no porn, lol.
That's correct, yes.

They take anything that isn't burned discs or porn. Trust me, CAGs will find anything/everything to trade in and find what doesn't work.

I've given them DVD demo/teaser discs I've received from Best Buy, cheap crap discs from Dollar Tree/Walgreens/CVS/etc., and they've taken them without issue.

They even took some HD-DVDs and Xbox demo discs with a little convincing. That's severe YMMV, though.

Don't waste your time. The Plan blows. Almost as disappointing as Caprica.

If you need to find cheap $1 DVDs for trading, try Half Price Books, EZ Pawn, or Thrift Stores. Garage Sales work as well. Half Price Books has coupons this week so you can get a $1 clearance DVD for up to $0.50 off.
Odd question, does anybody know if they'll take exercise DVDs? The only exclusions the OP makes is no DVD-Rs and no porn, lol.
They should take everything but it depends on the associate. I've had some inspect the disc throughly and others just pitch it in a box without looking to see if anything was even in it. On Sunday, I almost had a disc rejected because it had a rental sticker from Movie Gallery on it. The manager had to get involved to straighten that out

They even take Dollar Tree thin case dollar DVDs

Thanks for the responses, guys. I've been trying to plan a run to a further out BB that should have all the Ice Age movies and a bunch of other stuff I haven't been able to find locally (based on the online inventory, it seems like this store doesn't get touched...though it is in a very ritzy area, so maybe BB is too trashy for them, lol). Just wanted to make sure I wouldn't run into any problems with "unusual" DVDs. It's been surprising how hard of a time I've been having finding cheap DVDs though.

I tried Wal-Mart (no $1 DVDs anywhere), Target (nothing under $4.75), Dollar Tree (no DVDs), Dollar General (nothing below $5), and even Goodwill (which hilariously had all DVDs priced at $3.99...even some of the slim pack ones that were obviously of the $1 Wal-Mart variety). Didn't want to waste any more gas, so I found a few on Amazon with Prime shipping for about $1.50 each. Good enough.

I actually liked Caprica and was really disappointed when they just ended it on us. At least they gave it a conclusion.
So on Blu-ray there is no seperate season 4.0 and 4.5 sets like they were on DVD for BSG?
I can confirm that they are separate sets, noticed this when I went in last weekend. $20 for each season before the coupon, not bad.
I can confirm that they are separate sets, noticed this when I went in last weekend. $20 for each season before the coupon, not bad.
But there's no season 4.0. Season 4 on blu-ray is season 4, not the first half. It's like they just made season 4.5 on blu-ray to confuse people.

Just to be clear: Season 4 on blu has all 20 episodes from that season as well as Razor on it. DO NOT BUY 4.5 ON BLU. It is a waste of money. (Almost as much of a waste as The Plan. Sorry, I couldn't resist!)
What do you supposed they're going to do with all the crap DVDs they've accumulated?
Recycle.

They recycle them. I took in two just to try for the first time. Didn't even open the case, just stuck them under the counter. Turned right around and picked up The Matrix Trilogy for $10, which I used a gift card on. Needless to say, I'll be back.

I got a cool chick that did the trade in with the quickness then the last two times I got the damn employee of the month who lagged it, took my ID info, and made me sign something.

Got Moon and Superbad today. Been wanted these since the deal started and they only had one copy of each when I went today.
--
The Ice Age movie money says it's for the 3D version. Anyone able to use these for the regular version?

Someone posted 2D works also. Basically it takes $5 off the admission. Only a nitpicky agent might say no. (I get those every so often).

So far, I've picked up:

The Dark Knight Steelbook
Batman Begins Steelbook
Kick-Ass
Inception
Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol
Moon
The Good, the Bad, the Weird

I am dying to get at least part of BSG, but since the sale prices weren't up anymore, I decided to skip on them and am unsure of splurging on those now.

MI4:GP (Best Buy Exclusive) went up in price to $29.99? What the hell? Luckily I placed an in-store pick up when it was $9.99 but now I can't use a coupon.

I went back for EVEN more stuff. I have a problem and I should get my head checked.

Hook - $5
Tin Man - $5 (thanks for everyone's recommendation)
American Pie - $7.99 - $3 Universal coupon = $4.99

American pie had the Universal 100 slipcover. I really want Casino, but all the copies I find don't have the Universal 100th Anniversary slipcover.

Did you try? I think the price might have already gone up yesterday when I swapped my 2-disc for the 3-disc. I think the blueshirt decided to adjust the price to $9.99 when doing the return/rebuy-with-coupon because my original purchase was for $9.99. A manager approval was required, but there wasn't an issue.

True. I traded in my Game of Thrones episode 1 discs that I got for a penny. I traded them back at the same best buy I bought them at. I also traded in a couple HD DVDs the other day, but they wouldn't take them in the Blockbuster cases I put them in. I went out to the car to get the HD DVD cases. I also traded in a Bluray I got for 99 cents at Blockbuster, but I had to put it in a normal DVD case for them to take it. This was the same time I traded in the HD DVDs.

Thanks.

Made my run to the further out Best Buy today and had success! Though I was disappointed to hear that they weren't doing the phone upgrade check = get a $5 coupon anymore, the 4 DVDs I traded in netted me the first two Ice Age movies I had been looking for, Space Jam, and Stand By Me. For whatever reason, the one movie I can't find ANYWHERE though is The Sandlot. The website shows it unavailable at all stores within a 50 mile radius. I had them check the inventory anyway, but they didn't have it. Still, very happy with what I was able to get.

Went in today to trade in 5 more and ugh I went to a differnet store and the employee didn't know how to do it and litterally examed the condition of each disc. Ugh.
