For those that were speculating, I can confirm that the program will be starting up again on 7/15/2012 and running until 8/11/2012. Just like last time it will be good for ANY blu ray 9.99 and up.

There was a note in the terms of this promotion that this time around if you visit the best buy mobile dept in the first week and do a free upgrade check for your cell phone account, it will entitle you to one trade and save coupon for the $5 off a blu.
Credit: midgat0 from Blu-ray.com

Now, here are some commonly asked questions.

1. How does this work?

Basically, you bring in a DVD to Customer Service and they will give you a $5 off Blu-Ray coupon. Pretty simple.

2. Can you use it on any Blu-Ray?

Only on Blu-Rays $9.99 and up. Previously, music Blu-Rays have been excluded, but everything else is game.

3. Is there a limit of coupons you can receive?

5 per day seems to be the limit.

4. When does the coupons expire?

Last day of the promotion (8/11).

5. Do multiple disc DVDs = multiple coupons?

No. If you trade in a TV show season boxset = 1 coupon, not 3 or 4.

6. Can I trade in ANY DVD?

Naturally, they won't accept DVD-R/RW's nor will they accept pornos. So, no trading in Wii Like 2 fuck Part 3.

7. Can this be applied to past orders?

No. At most you can do a return/rebuy, but you would have to pay the current price so it may not be worth it.

8. Do I get the coupon back if I return the Blu-Ray I used a coupon on?

YMMV. Rule of thumb, be sure you are content with what you're getting before you use a coupon on it.

9. Do the DVDs I trade have to have the actual artwork and any inserts?

YMMV, but unless you get a real douche at CS, most won't care as long as it's in a case. (Generic DVD case will do)

10. I'm low on DVDs, any suggestions?

Dollar stores and places like Big Lots will occasionally carry $1 DVDs that you can get to trade in to Best Buy. Garage sales work as well if you can find one that is selling DVDs on the cheap.

11. Do coupons stack?

Nope. 1 coupon = 1 Blu-Ray purchase. Of course you can use multiple coupons in one transaction if you are purchasing the same amount of Blus.
If you need to find cheap $1 DVDs for trading, try Half Price Books, EZ Pawn, or Thrift Stores. Garage Sales work as well. Half Price Books has coupons this week so you can get a $1 clearance DVD for up to $0.50 off.
Yea my local HBD had a ton of DVD's for $1.00. I went there and picked up Austin Powers GOldmember, Resident Evil Extinction, Little Black Book, At First Sight, and A Matrix making of disc for $4.60. Traded em in for recycling right after that.
Went in today to trade in 5 more and ugh I went to a differnet store and the employee didn't know how to do it and litterally examed the condition of each disc. Ugh.
The employees at my local store have just been examining them figuratively.

todays U&S, Green Hornet & Gremlins 2 for $4.99 each. was debating on Bourne trilogy but mayb next wk. also got Scorpion King $7.99 w $8 Bourne Cash , figured i can sell SK after watching. and a movie called Immortals that sounded interesting for $7.99 that had shrink wrapped Blu-ray and DVD, which i figured could use for U&S next wk

I don't know what kind of fortune shone upon me today, but one BB around us only had the Attenborough Life in-stock, and they price adjusted! And let us use the $5 coupon too! :D

I've traded in Well over 30 DVD's in this and past BestBuy Trade and saves.
I kid you not, one store I went to, they girl did not even check to see if the DVD's were in the cases. Of course, this is a store that is closing at the end of August, so maybe she figures, "what are they gonna do, Fire me?".

I'm seriously considering picking up
Sparticus: Gods of the arena and
Camelot season one.

But not sure I wanna spend $15 for each of these.
SO hard to justify $15, when almost everything I've picked up has only cost me $5.

Quick question, & I apologize in advance if it has already been answered:

What is Best Buy's policy on using the $5 U&S coupon along with a $3 Universal 100th coupon on the same BluRay purchase?

I have seen it posted plenty of times in this thread about people using both, but when I went today to pick up Babe, I was shot down on using them together.

to my knowledge it's been YMMV
Odd question, does anybody know if they'll take exercise DVDs? The only exclusions the OP makes is no DVD-Rs and no porn, lol.
Yes, they take the exercise DVDs. I got a few Yoga, PIlates, Learn Guitar, and audio/video demos, and Region 2 DVDs (unplayable on Region 1 DVD player) to BB - a lot from garage sales ... 50c to $1. No problem.

I haven't had a problem using both, but you need to make sure they apply the $5 coupon first, otherwise the $3 coupon will take the DVD price under $9.99, making it ineligible for the $5 coupon.

As far as using them together, it shouldn't matter. One is a store coupon, the other is manufacturer, both backed by separate sources. If they were both either manufacturer or store, I could see the double-dipping issue.

Upgraded Firefly and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon today. Thinking about raiding the dollar stores around here shortly.

I'm pretty sure that manufacturer coupons are viewed as a form of payment. I used one of those during the last U & S sale, the easiest way to do this is:

1) Do NOT explain what you're about to do when you first walk up!
2) Give the clerk what you want to buy and your DVDs to trade in
3) Have them use the U & S coupons to reduce the price
4) Only when you're about to pay, give them the manufacturer coupon - it should be a form of payment

Given other posts I've read about this, I'm not surprised you had problems. But, if you do it in this order (and not mention this ahead of time), you should be able to use both coupons and their system should take them. Good luck!

Yup, no questions asked. Honestly, this guy didn't even open the cases to see if discs were inside. It was reasonably late at night though and he was working the service counter by himself...and he had a line. So, I don't think he really cared one way or the other, haha.

Ended up trading one more in for the Firefly complete series. Coupon and gift card brought it down to $8. For the record, when I receive the DVDs at work, I check to make sure something is in there. I don't care if it's the same movie/HD-DVD/rental copy/whatever. It's getting recycled anyways.

Apparently somebody cares if it's pr0n. Seems pr0n DVDs aren't recyclable.

Who needs those DVDs when there's Reality Kings and Naughty America and Bang Bros and Brazzers and.... hmm.... I think I'm revealing a little bit too much about myself right now.

I wanted to mention this in case nobody visited the best Buy DotD thread in the video game section. August 2nd the Looney Tunes Platinum Collection will be $20. If you have a copy in your local store, it would be a great U&S target.

I checked online and it isn't listed as available in-store, but I know that it was available at one time. I plan on checking today to see whether or not they are still there.

Took the 2-discs MI4:GP back and exchange it with the MI4:GP 3 discs version since they have reduced the 3-discs version to $9.99. I noticed the 3 discs version the slipcase is really bad - glue is coming off.
I would imagine for the Looney Tunes set, it would be the non-deluxe version?
They only have the standard one on their website.

Sadly, the closest copy to me is around 60 miles away, so I guess I'll have to stay up late on Wednesday night now. I guess I'll also have to see if I can find another $30 worth of stuff for the online gift certificate.

Awesome. Thanks very much for mentioning it in this thread. I'm in for 1 if I can find it.

At BB, I asked the customer service person to check this sku:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/LOONEY+TUNES%3A+PLATINUM+COLLECTION+1+%283PC%29+/+%28FULL%29+-+Fullscreen+-+Blu-ray+Disc/3641357.p?id=2259227&skuId=3641357&st=looney%20tunes&lp=1&cp=1

None were available at any best buy store.

On the shelf at this store however, they had two of those big "limited numbered edition" Looney tunes bluray collections. It's the one with the book and all the extra stuff. They were marked $79.98.

Oh yeah, here's the sku: 3641302. :D Hopefully this is the one that will be $19.99.

I did the stock locator trick with that sku and it shows up as a DVD. I'm 100% positive this sku was tagged on a bluray for $79.98. I'm only positive because I took a picture of it. It suppose it is possible that they mistagged a bluray with a DVD sticker, but the DVD MSRP is $59.98. I don't know if BB would price a DVD $20 over the MSRP.

None of these skus show in stock in my area on the website, but my store had 2 copies. I believe they need 3 copies for it to show in stock on the website.

I used the sku swap trick to create this link. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olstemp...contract_desc=2+YEARS+NEW&pageMode=searchmode

Hope my legwork helps in some way. I don't know why BB would have something in their weekly ad that isn't even on their website yet. It's going to be sad if we have to pricematch the darn best buy ad like the Inception Steelbook.

Here's another link

Do they take the thin paper cases from the Dollar Tree?
Do they take the thin paper cases from the Dollar Tree?
Should, unless you get a douche. Remind them it IS Commercially packaged, has UPC, and (paper) case it came with.

Only blockbuster or sleeved ones get denied most of the time...for recycling.
Do they take the thin paper cases from the Dollar Tree?
Yes they do. I've turned in quite a few of these this time around for the Trade & Save with no issue.

Here's what I noticed.
If the blockbuster ones that came in sleeves only or cd cases, they'll reject it.

But if the blockbuster used DVD came in regular amaray case (double) or single.. and the cover art (even if it's ink-jet printed) remains in the envelope.

They'll accept it as long as the original dvd is inside.

If you only have the original DVD with no case and no cover art, just have to go and find one blank case, print the cover art (with the UPC number) and try trade this in.

traded in 3 more, one of which was a previous $7.99 purchases that had Blu-ray and separate DVD shrinkwrapped called Immortals, sold the BLu-ray..i got Cedar Rapids for &4.99 which i heard was good and have 2 coupons left to use

damn, Total Recall MB edition is $7.99, not eligible for the promo. Plus there appears to be no copies in stock around me but has free shipping....decisions decisions.

I traded in 4 crappy DVDs today (that i got for free) and I got:

Kung Fu Hustle ($5)
Predator Ultimate Hunter Edition ($5)
Hook ($5)

Keep 1 extra coupon for later.

Snagged

Hatfield & McCoys $20 after coupon
Bourne Trilogy $25 after coupon

Will not open the trilogy until I see of the stand alone with the movie cash price drop finally next week!

I traded in 5 more DVDs and left the store without a damn thing. I'm officially out of ideas of what to get. Hopefully next week's ad sparks my interest.

I'm having the hardest time using my 3 coupons I got last week.
My Best Buy is not restocking the titles.
No Bourne Trilogy.
I'm convinced the do this to purge their inventory then when it is over, the stock magically replenishes.
I went back for EVEN more stuff. I have a problem and I should get my head checked.

Hook - $5
Tin Man - $5 (thanks for everyone's recommendation)
American Pie - $7.99 - $3 Universal coupon = $4.99

American pie had the Universal 100 slipcover. I really want Casino, but all the copies I find don't have the Universal 100th Anniversary slipcover.
So they have to have the Universal 100 slipcover? I think my BB only has one copy of American Pie with that slipcover. All the rest have the standard slipcover. Hopefully it's still there today.

I picked up the regular (Non-100th Anniversary) American Pie last week and there was no problem with the $3 coupon.

It may sound nuts.. but I wished BestBuy would actually jack up the price for Total Recall: Mind Bending Edition from 7.99 to 9.99 during this release period. Let us take the extra savings! Yeah!

No doubt. Interesting thing is that I thought it was on sale but it's listed as "our price" with the list prices as $14.99. So I'm thinking it won't and that $8 is their normal price. Oh well, I'll wait out my 60 day return window and if it doesn't, $3 isn't going to kill me. I ended up buying it at BB.com with free shipping (silver RZ membership).

Anyone know when the next one is and I think the coupons shouldn't expire because your trade-in something
Anyone know when the next one is and I think the coupons shouldn't expire because your trade-in something
This one's not even over yet, so no, we don't know when the next one is.
Thanks for the pointer. Have credit at both places but I'll save a bit by not paying tax at Amazon. Maybe I'll get it shipped at BB and wait to see if it goes to $9.99 during the last week or so of this promo.
I need to pull the trigger on this as well. I looked last week and BB had it as a pre-order price of $9.99, so I was also disappointed when they dropped the price (LOL). I have needed get this ever since I saw Collin Farrell trash "If I'm not Quade..then who the hell am I?!" on the remake trailer. It's not his fault, he's not Austrian.

Awesome. I'm going to try it with Casino if I get a chance, but I bet it's ymmv. I have a hard enough time getting them to accept the Universal coupon in the first place. A couple times I had to point to the top of the slipcover because the movie I was buying wasn't in the picture of the coupon. Then I show them the long list of movies that printed out underneath the coupon.

I agree. There are several $7.99 blurays I would buy if they were bumped up to $9.99 (sounds weird I know:)). I caved and bought Super 8 for $7.99 though.

I've looked for 2010: The Year we Made contact at 3 different stores and none of them had it. I also didn't find 8 Mile, Do the Right Thing, The Sandlot, and a few others.

I've been looking for 2010 and 8 mile at the beginning of the bluray section before the letter "A." Did you happen to find 2010: The Year We Made Contact at BB? If so, where in the store (endcap maybe)?

As someone wanted earlier, it looks like Total Recall: Mind-Bending Edition will be $4.99 after upgrade and save. Sometimes it's good when prices go up from $7.99 to $9.99 before coupon. ;)

I already have the original Total Recall bluray release. Do you guys think it's worth a double dip?
