Best cellphone company/plan

Nifferson

I plan on medium to low useage of my cellphone once I get it and I don't want to pay more than say 30 or so dollars a month, but I'm willing to go +/- if it seems right.
Free nights and weekends are a must(gotta start and end at decent times), a free nice phone is awesome, I want(notice, want not have to have) to be able to run aim from it, don't care about games, custom tunes are nice but not needed, the rest is up to chance and price..

Any suggestions ideas tips coupons or free ultimate cellphone/cellphone plan for life please, let me know.

i got sprint 300 minutes, unlimited pcs to pcs (great if you know someone with sprint), nights at 9pm, unlimited weekends/nights. that deal was 40 a month plus tax. (35 w/o the pcs to pcs)

then my brother and i began sharing a plan. 800 minutes, unlimited pcs to pcs, nights starting at 7, unlimited nights/weekends. that was a 75 dollar plan i do beleive. so after taxes i still end up saving a few bucks.

oh, also, if you get the phone/plan online that'll be your best deal. the price of the phone will have like $180 off. my brother got a video camera phone (usually about 400 bucks) for 200 and i got a basic flip phone for 20.

activation fee is about 36 dollars. overall, i'm pleased with sprints service. when we switched to a family plan, radioshack didn't switch my plan. so i was charged for two plans. i called customer service and they looked up my bill before we started talking and they knew the problem without me even telling them. she fixed it and took of the activation fee.

I have Cingular, I think I pay like $46/month (after taxes/charges)

I think i have 600M /month + rollover. I had like 1000 minutes saved up.
My fiance has Nextel, but I don't think it's that great. I guess the "walkie-talkie" feature is nice, but you have to know enough people to use it.

I may get a new plan though when I upgrade my cell-phone.

Thanks for the info, all good stuff, keep it coming :p

I hate the walkie-talkie feature, bleh. I watch people use it all the time and it pisses me off. I'd rather hear one sided conversations that amuse me than know the mundain truth of my fellow humans lives.

I've been looking at T-mobile and Verizon, T-mobile being the cheaper, and verizon being the supposedly better service while being a bit more expensive,
t-mobile offers a nice plan with a really cool free phone, I think I might do that.
Not sure yet though.

Cheapest deals I have ever seen on cell phones. The monthly rates are still the same and it takes a long time for the rebates as well. You have to wait to receive some montly bills before sending in the rebates. But, the price of the original phone is the best anywhere as far as I know.

I got Verizon through Costco after I was tired of Cingular's crappy reception in my house. I love Verizon and wouldn't switch to another carrier.

I had an employer supplied Nextel unit for a few years. The walkie talkie feature was extremely useful in some situation but we didn't use it for conversions generally because that got annoying for us befor eother people became a consideration.

One thing to consider is what services the people you are likely to talk to most frequently use. In my case that was Cingular by a big lead, which meant it didn't use up minutes for unlimited time to those users if I was on Cingular as well. Since I'm not given to lengthy phone conversations this meant that int he four months since I started I've never used more than 20% of my minutes on the minimal plan for that service, which is $40 plus tax a month.

They offer as low as $30 but when you factor in the unlimited usage to other network members the high price eliminates a lot of hassle and can be cheaper if there are other Cingular users you'd be speaking to frequently.

Most carriers offer such features now, so a survey of those you need to be in regular voice contact with or would like to be be is worth doing.

If you travel a lot, Verizon has the best coverage out of all the carriers. My family decided to switch to T-Mobile because my mom's side of the family all has T-Mobile and they live far away, but if I had a few extra dollars to spare, I'd go with Verizon. They've never let me down yet and nine times out of ten my Verizon phone worked when everyone else didn't.

Sprint has their plan where if you go over your minutes, they charge you either $5 or $10 for 100 minutes. I thinks thats pretty nice. Most new plans suck. After you ahve been with a company for a year, call and say you want to cancel. They usually give you extra features for free tog et you to stay.

I think I've found about the cheapest low-usage deal.

ATT Free-2-Go (although because of their merger with Cingular . . . it may be in flux).

I paid $60 each for 2 phones (Noika small but standard) and got my first $10 card with it.

$10 gets about 40 minutes but is good for 3 months. My wife's phone is almost never used, so it costs $10 every 3 months to keep it active. My phone is used more, so I bit and bought a $100 card which gets some 600 minutes and is good for 1 year. (I use something like 30 minutes a month (I'll be home in 20 min. or what should I buy at the store) . . . so it should last the year.)

So, I have two phones for about $12 per month ($100 + $40 + tax). The service is fine.
