Guys, I would highly recommend looking into Targus backpacks- for the money, they're the best quality you can get. Plus they usually have a padded compartment for transporting your laptop (especially useful in college). Two of my friends and I have the Targus Slam Backpack. I think it cost around $50, but it has lasted me 3+ years now.
Targus are good, I just got one for my laptop [the Targus XL Notebook backpack, TXL617; the company paid for it, yeeha].

In college I went to an army/navy store and got an old military pack. I'm sure it wasn't as 'ergonomic' as a Targus, but it held what I needed it to, it was comfortable on my back, and it's lasted over a decade, and it was bought used, for 20 bucks.
