Gamespot begs to differ "one of the most disappointing games I've ever played."
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/adventure/thedig/review.html?om_act=convert&om_clk=gssummary
but thats alright, because i beg to differ with gamespot a lot *cough* Gears of War 9.6 *cough*

just for the records i have never played The Dig, but if two people love it that much, i might have to check it out
It was a very good book as well!

KOTOR was phenomenal in that it perfectly captured the Star Wars atmosphere like none of the prequel films had except maybe the third.

Chrono Trigger/Cross
Jak and Daxter 1
Prince of Persia The Sands of Time
And who could not but love the first MGS
Kingdom Hearts 1 (one of the best original RPGs to have come past gen)

Red Faction is a particular favorite of mine. Love the first one to no avail and have actually recently restarted it on PS2. Still awesome as before. Perfect difficult with the right amount of increase. I liked the second game as well, but the story should have been a true sequel to the first/should have continued it rather than diverge and deviate onto a separate semi-spinoff storyline. The dictator aspect of it was cool, but I believe that anyone who played the first expected something entirely different and that's why it was a slight let down storywise.

I agree wholeheartedly. Very underrated game(s).

I thought Republic Commando was pretty, not as good as kotor or deus ex or some of the other games that were already mentioned but good enough to keep me from playing anything else till I finished it. Also the first Medal of Honor.

You people are just talking about RPG games purely which all have a pretty okay story but you are forgetten about

CONKERS BADFUR DAY
This game is the story to end all stories. Starting from a innocent begining to a unrealistic turn out.

Also

Earthbound series
Tales Of Phantasia
Hybrid heavan
Beyond Good and Evil

hands down: Killer 7

I have ever come across something that's made memore educated and feel very smart by enjoying a story. I've learned about japanese and american history, culture, philosophy, art, and numerous other things through mind blowing connections unthinkably linked. Took me a month to digest and focus over in order to understand everything. Plus, being a art game designer I totally enjoyed the conceptual side to the entire project.
I disagree. MGS2 is FAR from the worst story ever.
I still say MGS2 had the best story out of every MGS released so far. I was pissed that the complexity of the plot became alot more straight forward and simplified in MGS3, though it was still a great game.

Can I change mine to The Legend of Zelda series? I love the fact that when I start a new game I never know what's going to happen to the princess or what kind of sword I'm going to have to find.
fuck, Final Fantasy X was horrible and Final Fantasy VII is so fucking overrated. :bomb:
Because people are really knocking your own opinions....

I wanted to add a game I didn't see on the list (because Xenogears is my favorite).

Metal Gear Solid 3. The ending was really sad and got to me. Took me by suprise.

Though I didn't cry like Trakan did at the end of Shadow of the Colosus.

My opinion is that Final Fantasy X sucks and Final Fantasy VII is overrated. So you're knocking my opinions.

Legacy of Kain gets my nod for a great story. Perhaps too much time travel for its own good, but gripping and quite novel nonetheless.

Also, Ace Combat 4 has a surprisingly great one too. Basically the entire story was told from the perspective of a child in an occupied territory(in narrated, handrawn stills). His tense relations with the occupiers who murdered his family and the occupiers anxiety as they awaited their encounter with the player's squadron was conveyed very well. I looked forward to the story segments after each battle just so I could see what effect this new loss or victory would have on the situation in the life of the narrator.

I was first introduced to RPGs by FF7. I hated the game, but the more I played the more I cared about the characters. I was completly schocked by the death of one of the characters.

Star Wars KOTOR 1 & 2 were great story wise.

MGS to me brought a movie like atmosphere to videogames. I kept thinking this is like a movie, they should make this into a movie.

Ok, i have not disagreed with anyone, except for the guy ripping on MGS 2. But i mean Halo and Gears of War, you cant be serous. I mean, thats just ridiculous to say, in the history of video games that you think they are the best ever? I mean thats not true, the things that I am saying right now, are not opinions, they are facts. Halo and Gears of War are not the best stories and should not be your favorites either. Once again these are not opinions, they are facts.

Lmao, It says Best/Favorite Story in a game. Read before you flame somebody, you stupid fuck.

And i said, it is a fact, that they should not be your favorite story's of all time, thats like saying your favorite story in a movie all time, is American Pie or Fast and Furious, its a sign of simple mindedness

A opinion is never wrong. You lose. Good day, sir.

Don't tell me what I should like and what I shouldn't.

I was just trying to make you a more intelligent person, maybe you could have carried some more complex conversation. But you cant help the ones who don't want help, i guess you can just stay the way you are.

Alright sorry, back on topic.

What I like does not determine my inteligence. I am tired of people like you on these forums. DON'T make a thread if you are going to argue about the comments in them. Especially if your contradicting yourself.

Ok. Back on topic. My favortie stories in games are Gears of War, Halo, MGS, and FF 7.

I'm going with:

The Call of Cthulhu
Vampire: The Masquerade
The Legacy of Kain series had good stories even though I'm not fond of the games
Jade Empire
Deadline (an old Infocom game)

Liking a complex story doesn't make you a more intelligent person at all. Being condescending about someone's taste does make you an asshole though.
Many FF7 votes but none for the best FF story FF8?
I couldn't name my favorite story in a game because I can't pick one or five for that matter, I would have to make a large list.
I liked 9 and 10 a lot more than 8 (though I did like 8). I liked 6 and 7 more too.

I probably would have enjoyed 7 even more if some game magazine (EGM?) RUINED THAT EVENT NEARLY A YEAR BEFORE THE GAME CAME OUT. It said "well everyone already knows that..." and then said it. In January. Of 1997.

Yes, everyone knows about it, SINCE IT WON'T BE RELEASED FOR OVER HALF A YEAR. Thanks EGM. (Or whoever spoiled it.)

Still a great game, but obviously the whole time I'm just thinking of that.

What event is that?

I don't know why everyone loves FF7 so much. It was a big factor in stagnation of the genre for about 10 years.
My favorite is probably the original MGS.

FF7s story was only alright up until part way through the second disc. What made the story for me was finding out exactly who Cloud was; suddenly everything came together. The "hidden" cutscenes allowed the player to uncover more of the puzzle, as well.

What stagnation of the genre? Most RPGs are cliched, but the Final Fantasy series much less so than most others.
