well, i JUST got online with my ps2 for the 1st time a few days ago....lol
which free games are the best in ur opinion (and are still populated)? here's a few that i know a little bit about. if u know of some good ones, let me know!

1. ratchet and clank 3...i've been playing this a lot for awhile (usually 20-50) people online at peak time. siege is pretty fun, too. it's like ut 2004

2. mgs3 subsistence? i need this game still, but heard its popular..

3. amplitude...still have yet to try it out but i heard not many people are online playing it...

4. socom 2/3? which one is better? i heard part 3 is more arcadey, which is right up my alley.

5. star wars battlefront 2. i want this game, too. how many people still play it?
 
There's Killzone which has a couple hundred people online at any time last time I checked (which was quite awhile ago). MGS3 is pretty good online, and if you can find someone to play Syphon Filter with you that is really fun, no one is ever online with it though.

That will show you the most populated games. Mind you, this is only for games hosted by GameSpy.

For the most comprehensive online game list for the PS2, I would go to http://playstation2.onlineconsoles.com, and click on the "Online Game List." On the right side you can click on the GameSpy icon for the GameSpy-hosted games to view their stats.
 
cool beans. i wish there was a site that listed the number of people in different ps2 game servers to see who's playing what. then you could check online to see who's playing what and pop in the appropriate game in ur ps2... sound crazy? i hope not! haha.
