Best Gaming Headphones - 360 and Ps3 and movies?
Hey DLG - I am actually considering trying to trade my 1 month old xbox360 x41s ($170) for the wired DX11s ($130) or simply get the money equivalent to purchase the DX11s. I talk about why above, but the basic issue is that I can't get rid of interference from wireless networks in my apartment complex. If you would maybe be interested, send me a PM and we can talk.
well I would trade if I had the DX11s as for the money im actually buying on credit. How is the quality on the X41 when you are not having problem with popping and interference?
no its not, some think the simulated surround is actually better.
yeah Im getting that sense from reading some reviews and impression from owners of both, guess I will be going with the X41

The sound quality is pretty great. When I first put them on I literally thought that I forgot to turn off my stereo... I was literally tricked. The simulated 7.1 is impressive. I heard on Rebel FM today that they believe the x41 sound quality (literal speaker quality) isn't great and recommended the Astro high-end set ($300, http://www.astrogaming.com/products/detail/4/A40-Headset/). But as you may know with headphones and such, you never really know how much better another pair is without trying. For me the X11s and the X41s both greatly increased the audio quality when I gamed, so I am happy. But who knows, another could be better...? There are a few other annoyances:

1. Headset requires 2 double-A batteries that last for about 6 hours, about 5 with the Bass Boost on.
2. The Bass Boost feature is supposed to save battery, but really...? I want them on all the time so it just eats the battery anyways.
3. The volume control is located on the headset which is a bit more cumbersome to get to than the X11 dongle that is by the cable. So when you are adjusting gameplay to chat volume you have to move your hand back and forth constantly instead of having it all on one dongle.
4. The cord length for the headset to the controller for chat is a bit short... not terrible, but quickly putting down the controller and grabbing that piece of pizza can sometimes be disastrous.
5. My brother reported talk-back of his chat for a while, seems to have cleared up but it was an annoyance that I never truly solved.

Anyways. like I said, I think I would be perfectly happy with the DX11s simply to remove the interference. But if I am stuck with these, I am surely not upset.

Well yeah, there are better options out there, if you're willing to spend twice as much. I was considering the Astros, or at least the Mixamp and using my Steelseries Siberias as the headset, but it was still $60 more than the x41's.

I've noticed the talk-back is an effect of the chat boost if you have things set too high, just lower the chat volume. And don't have it set to play chat out of speakers, only headset.

x41s are $199 and the comparable astros model is $279. Not exactly double, but I get you point. And thats not always the case, I know from experience with earbuds for say an MP3 player... you can get comparable or potentially even better headphones for far cheaper. Price isn't always better, and when you are at the top-end models price is usually less of a deciding factor for some.

I realized the stereo issue from the get-go... But by changing the chat volume do you think the mic is picking up the voice from the headphones? It was the best guess I had. But my bro never heard any game related feedback... so I was never sure.

The Astros are sold only through their website, and almost never go on sale, the x41's were $140 a few weeks ago on Amazon.

And Amazon doesn't charge me shipping or tax.

The headset can get pretty loud depending on what volume you set it at. I think the mic only transmits voices, hence why I noticed it transmitted the announcer and other players voices until I turned them down.

lol really batteries only last around 6 hours? What happened to the supposed 25 hour battery life? lol. Still im willing to deal with batteries instead of cables. Wonder why they didn't put a rechargeable battery in it that you could charge from the base

The original set of batteries for me lasted around 20 hours or so, so YMMV.

My rechargables have been running out a bit faster, but not in 6 hours. More like 10.
