Best gaming magazines? Edge, play, gameinformer?
Haha... when I said it paid tribute to GMR, I meant they shared a very similar editorial style, covering games most people wouldn't have heard of and other things you wouldn't expect from a mainstream magazine, like the murder in Akihabara or the interview with Kenji Eno, who made a game for blind people which included flower seeds, or another that came with a condom (at used game stores, the condom was still intact). Sorry for the misunderstanding.

You could find Games TM at Barnes & Noble or Borders. It would be like $10, but the paper stock is good and comparing it to a US magazine, the difference is like night and day.
Oh okay. I thought he had aknowledged GMR in his opening editorial or something. Yeah, I see what you mean. September was an excellent issue.

And I'll check at Borders-- thanks!

Also, Coffee, I loved that section in Tips and Tricks. All of my stores stopped selling that mag though. Do they still run the section?
I like Hardcore Gamer Magazine from Doublejump.
Aren't they selling themselves to the highest bidder on eBay? Seems like it'll probably go a bit downhill with new owners who bought the mag over eBay.

All that's left are Game Informer, Play, Edge, OXM, OPM, Nintendo Power, Gamepro....I think that's it.

For me, the main one will be Game Informer. I enjoy that mag (it's no EGM, but it's all that's left). Other than that, I'll only read OXM. I just subscribed to that one.

What's crazy is that I used to have 5 different gaming magazines coming to my house each month. Now I only have 2. Also interesting is that I used to be a devout reader of anything Dave Halverson. I LOVED gamefan and then game republic. But, Play just seems to....I don't know....off in their own little world. It's like, if it's anime based, you know they'll gush over it. And anything even remotely mainstream is just way too lame for them. It gets old and ruins the overall game commentary. That's just my opinion. I wish Mr. Halverson the best.
Gamefan was the shit. I remember it seeming so genuine. I loved the way that, especially in the early 90s, the pages were so crazily thrown together, and really specialized (for example, SOTN review. It felt very handmade.
Gamefan was the stuff of dreams. I remember rereading each issue over and over. I loved the import coverage. Reading that rag was intensive training to be a hardcore gamer.

I remember the coverage of what became FF7 as it was being developed for the 'ultra 64'. Actually, I still have almost every issue of Gamefan in my collection, along with almost every issue of EGM since issue 7.
