Best GBA Castlevania

Sad to say that I have only played Circle of the Moon. Yet I have two sealed copies of Harmony of Dissonance sitting in the GBA pile.

Someone convince me to open one.

harmony is my favorite to the series..... it plays true to other castlevanias. i love the game and if you dont open it its your loss! it is very good!

AoS is the best of the 3, they were all made in the mold of SoTN so they all play like SoTN in someway.. but nothing can beat SoTN.

Circle of the moon

Don't get me wrong, I love me some AoS, but I think nothing compares to the genius of CotM.

I have played this game for longer than any other GBA game to date including Final fantasy tactics. You know what made the difference though? My SP. I played the game on the regular gba and couldnt do shit. The first night I bought the sp, I finaly beat dracula. And then I played it from then on.
I wrote this about CotM, and I stand by it. I haven't gotten that kind of time on any other gba game, and all of it was a blast. The multiple playthroughs with different abilities are awesome, and best of all, the game is ceaper and easier to find than the other ones. PICK IT UP NOW

aria was good, but i missed the whip, which was the only reason i voted for HOD..... and COM was just too dark for my liking

Aria is the best, but Circle was just so fresh when it came out that it ranks up there just below Aria.

and as mentioned before, Harmony was horrible. way too easy, magic system sucked, and I didnt like how the whole 2 castles thing worked out

im not sure what game u guys were playing but aria was a cake walk!! ill admit hod isnt too hard but its much more difficult than aos.

anyway, all 3 are greast games

Eh, I'm probably the only one here who had a hard time with Aria of Sorrow...it probably was because I was underlevelled and tried to get to chaos (copy/paste into notepad for spoiler).

I've only played CotM and HoD so far, but I've found both to be relatively easy.

I think I just lucky with CotM and got the Summon DDS card early. That plus the Thunderbird made every boss cake. I also think I spent a little more time leveling than most people do.

I liked the graphics of HoD much better, but the magic system was garbage. Hard to manage and making it dependant on the items was a poor idea. It left little room for experimentation, especially once you got a "rare" item like the cross.

Despite my complaints, these games were both terrific. Took over my life for several weeks (partially due to my need to get 100% maps and all items). PsyClerk, definitely take one out of the package and give it a spin.

I've got AoS coming in the mail (thanks to a trade), so I'll soon experience the full trilogy.

I finished Castlevania Harmony of Dissonance on GBA and it was very similar to SOTN on PS1. I tried about one or two other gba castlevania games and didn't like them much because they are too hard.

yogi - keep plugging away at CotM. It's definitely worth your time.

On a side note, this thread made me dig up HoD again to finish getting all the items. Only need four more, baby!

umm...i forget which one l liked the most. actually, i just keep screwing up the names. i like the one in the middle. not the really difficult first one with bad graphics or the one in the future. I liked the really easy one in the middle cause I like my handheld games challenge-free.

I hate this thread almost to the point of locking it!!!

Why?

Because everytime I see Mustang's post on Castlevania I get the freakin Circle of the Moon theme stuck in my head
all i played is Cotm, cant find anything else
That's the exact same thing that happened to me. I loved CotM so much that I completed it with a regular GBA without a lighting attachment. I really want to play the others, but I've never seen either of them for less than $50. I haven't been able to find a new copy of SotN either. :( I had to settle for LoI.

Tough question. I like Circle of the Moon since it felt very close to the classic Castlevania games I like and the music was great, but the gameplay was slow. I liked Harmony of Dissoance gameplay better, but the music was a terrible noise IMO. Castlevania: AoS had the best story and was right in the middle gameplay wise, but I greatly prefer using a whip as my main weapon, since that's what Castlevania is all about to me. I will give the edge to Circle of the Moon, since I play it most and seem to enjoy it the most.

Having played all three, I have to admit that I love AoS the best. Granted, I'm not all the way through it, and there's plenty of places for it to go wrong, but it reminds me of SotN a lot right now.

And that's really the winning factor.

I do still have an unholy love for the other games. If anyone's having a hard time finding Aria, check your local TRU or Gamecrazy. They tend to sell for $25-30, but I've found that they're generally in-stock.

To be completely honest the only one I have played is AoS, I will probably pick up the other ones and give them a try. I absolutely loved AoS and spent countless hours playing it, and still pick it up from time to time. It is a great game that sticks true to some of the classic styles with a new twist which is great. The best ending is definately worth the playtime also.
