I've been looking to upgrade my 160gb slim PS3 for a while now as I've been having to delete and redownload games and installs due to a lack of space. (All of the PS Plus Freebies over the last 2 years mostly) I think that a 500gb hard drive would be sufficient for my needs. There are a few that I have been looking at, (links below) but I was wondering if anyone has any experience with any of these or could recommend another. Thanks for any help.

I have a WD 500 and a 320. WD you can't go wrong with and just happens to be on sale when i was looking. Seagates are trust worthy too but I've noticed allot of ps3 users with WD's. I went from 80 gigs, top 160, to 500 and wish i would have gone bigger still. So plan for the future. Game sharing and 1,000 rock bands songs took it's toll but yeah ps+ eats up a huge chunk now

I have the 500 GB Seagate Momentus which you linked to and it's working great so far. As a matter of fact, I installed it last night. It seemed like there were more negative reviews for the Western Digital drive on Amazon so that's why I selected this one.

Ironically, I purchased a Seagate GoFlex portable drive from Target and it was DOA. I returned it, bought a 320 GB Western Digital MyPassport drive (currently on clearance) and it hasn't failed at all.

The backup process is annoying so make sure you have a working portable hard drive formatted to FAT32 and it includes a folder titled "PS3" for your saves and an "UPDATE" folder for the latest Playstation firmware update.

One last thing: After the Seagate Momentus installed on the PS3, I had 400 GB of free space available before I transferred the saves from my old drive (96 GB from my 120 GB drive). Make sure you check your drive and your downloading habits to see if you need a drive with more or less space.
