Best Metroid game?

I can't decide...maybe prime or zero mission. Haven't played prime 2 yet.

The transition to 3-d was perfect to me, but I hope they keep making side scrollers, cause those are just as fun.

I love them all equally, but for the purposes of this poll, I said Super Metroid. Truly, one hell of a game, and one of the classics of the 90's era, and of all time. I wish they'd port it to GBA.

I'd have to give it to Zero Mission. The controls were great, the graphics were good, and I could play it in my living room or on the go.

They also were finally willing to try something new (the stealthy part).

The whole game was just really well done, in my opinion.

Metroid Prime. It beats out the also excellent Super Metroid. MP nailed it - the environments, the bosses, the story, graphics, puzzles, weapons, enemies - EVERYTHING. It's about as close to perfect as a videogame can get.
Super Metroid for me. I couldn't even get into prime. 30 minutes in I stopped because I hated the controls.
it does take about an hour or 2 before you get the controls down. but once you do, it's one hell of an awesome ride.

give it another chance and don't try to play it like an FPS. sidestepping and locking on with L are essential.

put in my vote for prime since it was the most immersive for me..I was glued to the screen for all 25 hours it took me to beat it, which is pretty rare. Most games have a boring part or element, but prime didn't. after a few hours with the controls, it felt like I was playing a metroid game.

but picking between metroid games is apples and oranges. except for Metroid 2, which is a lot of fun but the gameboy spinach green screen kinda ruins it.

I voted for Metroid Prime myself, but if anything, this poll has reminded just how good the Metroid series is. Not one weak link in the series.

Whew, not looking to flame here, only trying to help.

Seriously, you should try Prime again. After the ice area boss fight, I was totally hooked. I voted for Super Metroid in this poll, second up would be the original, but Metroid Prime is absolutely awesome. I'm playing through the second one now, and it too is picking up slowly as I go along.

Metroid Prime games take some time to really pick up speed. But when they do, they are amazing.

Well the obvious, and correct, answer is Super Metroid. That being said, zero mission had it's charm. Also, the Primes are both genius, although I prefer 1 to 2. 2 had better puzzles and flow, but it just seemed like it was trying too hard and missed some sort of je ne' se' quois.

I'll have to play through super metroid again, it's been a looooong time.

Nintendo needs to remake Metroid 2, like they did with Zero Mission. Metroid 2 is better game than 1, IMHO, and has more to gain from a graphics update.

IMO, Metroid Fusion comes pretty close.

Nothing like having a linear Metroid, where the computer had to give you hints and details about where to go. Metroids for me are about exploring every nook and cranny figuring out what to do next... getting told exactly where to go and what to do ruined it for me a bit. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't nearly as good as any other Metroid.

At least in Prime 1 and 2, the help system could be turned off, which was pretty awesome, made it feel more like a real Metroid, with the whole exploring aspect.

I myself really don't mind being told where to go. To me, the original is probably the weakest game in the series, but that's only because of it's age.

Prime's pace is too slow. I liked Metroid Zero much, much better.

Out of *all* the metroids, I like the 2D ones the best. I don't think Metroid works in 3D (too hard to find the hidden puzzles). I get frustrated standing around and going, "Now what do I do?"

With 2D, you can usually see the puzzles, so 2D Metroid flows at a faster pace. Much more satisfying.

Everyone who voted for the shitty NES Metroid deserves to have their head in a toilet.

1st =/= best, especially if the first was a turd.

Not if you were around when it was released. I remember when Metroid and Kid Icarus came out (same day) and I really wanted to get them both. I bought Metroid first and loved every second of it - then I played Kid Icarus at a friend's house and knew I had to have that too. Metroid isn't anywhere near the greatness of Metroid Prime or Super Metroid but it's not that bad. Now Metroid 2.... That game sucked.

Metroid Prime is a great, great game. So is Zero Mission and Fusion. However, nothing can hold a candle to Super Metroid. One of the all-time greatest games ever made. Without it we would never have had SoTN, and that would've been a shame.

Just because Metroid 1 was good then, doesn't mean it is good now. Times change, and so do expectations. Metroid 1's only purpose is for memory. Otherwise, it's trash.

I disagree. There are tons of old movies that people think are great (Casablanca, Gone with the Wind, etc.) that I think are shit but that doesn't make them shit. Get it? It's an opinion. Metroid still plays better than a lot of games released today - particularly most crappy 2D side scrolling GBA games.

Lessee, in chronological order, the Metroid games go:

Metroid/Zero Mission, Metroid Prime, Metroid 2, Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion

Where does Metroid Prime 2 fit?
