Best music of the year?

Ah..okay..

This year has been pretty good..

Ayumi Hamasaki - Missunderstood
Otsuka Ai - Love Cook

These were released in the beginning of 06 but I am still listening to them..some great music [if music is more to you than two guitars, drums, and a bass]

Fey - Faltan Lunas

This totally came out of left field, after Fey's excellent Vertigo double album [in English and Spanish] more than two years ago, this was the shocker of the year

Couple this with two new Yaiko singles in less than half a year [Go my way, Start Line, which are both very fun] and the rerelease of Pink Floyd's Pulse [DVD and concert CD, which are both excellent if you've never bother to check them out] and it's been a rather decent year

Plus the Xenosaga Episode III soundtrack is incredible, more on the level of Mitsuda's wonderful Xenogears [and it's not even Mitsuda!~]

[coughs, holds in a giggle] sorry for not discussing real music...
Streetlight Manifesto's Keasby Knights.
fuck YES fuck YES fuck YES. I can't believe that one escaped me. I've been listening to it at least once a day since it came out on my ride to school. Lately I've been pulling it back and trying to listen to other stuff, but I keep coming back to it.

Anyway, add to my list:

She Wants Revenge
Shiny Toy Guns

If the new Mos Def is anything like New Danger, it will be terrible. I love Mos and Talib both, but New Danger was not a good album and Beautiful Struggle was pretty mediocre. The one track I've heard off Eardrum is a banger though, and I haven't heard anything from the new Mos but I hope it's good. I really want both of those albums to do great. As to the question, I answer as follows:

Skrapz - 12 Step Program (you are doing a disservice to yourself if you enjoy hip hop and do not buy this album, I can't stress this enough)
Sol.iLLaquists of Sound - As If We Existed (picked this up yesterday on a whim and it's a great, varied rap/soul album...don't sleep on it)
Gnarls Barkley - St. Elsewhere (forget what other people say, there's only 1 bad track on here, the only other problem is it's too short)
Cunninlynguists - A Piece of Strange (though not as good as Southernunderground to me)
Pack FM - WhutduzFMstand4? (another QN5 artist with a fantastic debut lp)
The Roots - Game Theory (this is honestly the first studio album from them I've mostly enjoyed)

That's all I can come up with for now, however my biggest dissapointments are:

DJ Shadow - The Outsider (while not a terrible album by any means, only about half the tracks are really good which is not what you normally get from Shadow)
Jurassic 5 - Feedback (their worst album to date...same deal as Shadow, only half the cuts are any good)
The Hold Steady - "Boys and Girls in America"

Seriously, people, there is *NO* excuse not to be listening to the Hold Steady... these guys are absolutely phenomenal (killer live shows, too).

There are a couple of free mp3's at their web site:

And some more at the requisite MySpace page:

Best damn rock-n-roll band in the world right now.
I guess I heard about original sin, I heard the dude blamed the chick, I heard the chick blamed the snake.
Mastodon - Blood Mountain
K-OS - Atlantis
Sonic Youth - Rather Ripped
TV on the Radio - Return to Cookie Mountain
The Hold Steady - Boy and Girls of America

2006 has been a great year.
Dammit, I was gunna be the first to say Mastodon's Blood Mountain!

Seriously, anyone who has ever liked the sound of a guitar should give this a listen. Their mastery of the instrument is uncanny.

Tramps like us and we like Tramps! Can't wait to see these guys at the end of Nov. New album is awesome.

Their mastery of everything is impeccable. I've never heard anything quite like them.

Thought a few CDs were pretty good, including Editors, Thom Yorke, Goldfrapp, Killers and Prince's '3121'. I liked Jurassic 5's 'Feedback', but not as much as the two before it.

My favorite CD of the year has to be 'Ta-Dah' by Scissor Sisters. It's not for everybody, but easily one of the best pop albums I've heard in a long time. Not a bad song on it, great production, the whole thing's just an absolute blast.

Albums that I've played a lot this year:

Drive-By Truckers - A Blessing And A Curse
The Killers - Sam's Town
Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not
Jars of Clay - Good Monsters

I think those are the only 4 albums that came out this year that I can listen all the way through and not skip songs.

Edit: Actually, there is one more album (my friend's solo album), but that's not getting released until 2007, so I guess I'll list it next year.
Tv On the radio- return to cookie mountain is the album of the year so far.
This is all anyone needs to know. Buy it... Download it and then buy it... I don't care. Just listen to it.

Andrew WK Close Calls with Brick Walls (Import)

great CD. Doesn't reach the level of I Get Wet (nothing really does though) though i like it more than The Wolf. Really really good cd.

Hmm... I always forget shit but here goes:

Pearl Jam - "Pearl Jam" Best rock CD of the year, IMO.
Beck - "The Information"
Arctic Monkeys - "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not"
Tool - "10,000 Days"
Jurassic 5 - "Feedback"
OutKast - "Idlewild"
Thom Yorke - "The Eraser"
Tapes 'N Tapes - "The Loon"
Tool - "10,000 Days"
Shit, that should definitely be on my list. I haven't listened to it much lately though, which I guess is my excuse for not including it earlier.

Panacea's Ink is My Drink is now my favorite so far this year.

The others on my list are:
Hi-Tek's Hi-Teknology 2: the Chip
Lupe Fiasco's Food and Liquor
Ryhmefest's Blue Collar

I'm predicting Talib Kweli's Eardrum and Mos Def's Tru3 Magic will also make the list when they drop.
