There have been a lot of "supergroups" over the years and I'm curious to hear what people think of them. To qualify, I guess there would have to be 2 or more members in a band that had mainstream success in a current or former band (recognizing the fact that probably 90% of the members of all "famous" bands started out in a different band somewhere along the line - you get the idea though).

Some examples:
A Perfect Circle
Travelling Wilburys
Damn Yankees
Temple of the Dog
Mad Season
Zwan
Audioslave
Velvet Revolver
Gorillaz

It's tough to say which one is my favorite because there are some good ones - I guess A Perfect Circle would top the list since I enjoy all three of their CDs from start to finish...

Any thoughts?
I'm not sure, but The Yardbirds win as reverse-supergroup.
yeah - definitely. I thought about them but then I remembered that everyone was in the Yardbirds first, not the other way around...

In rap, I'd probably have to go with Analog Brothers

Kool Keith & Ice T =

Overall, I'd have to go with Led Zeppelin.

Wu tang
Jurassic 5
A tribe called quest
Blackalicious
Pete rock and c.l. smooth
Jedi mind tricks
De la soul

Maybe KMD

I was thinking Wu-Tang, J5, and ATCQ, too, but did they have fame before they were part of the groups? I think members of ATCQ and Wu might have, but I'm not sure about J5...

i don't know if they count as a supergroup, but one of my personal favorites is the replicants. they were more of a side project i suppose, and only covered other artists' songs (partial inspiration for the name?)

nice to see someone giving the travelling wilburys some love.

do queens of the stone age count as a supergroup? everyone was pretty much in a different band first and they rotate musicians almost every album.

The Firm (Jimmy Page and Paul Rodgers)
Velvet Revolver
Nailbomb
Down
Fantomas
That new supergroup with Ted Nugent, Scott Ian, Ivan Seinfield, Seb Bach.
Damn Yankees

it's actually Trey Anastasio, the guitarist from Phish, not Phil Lesh (he was the bassist for the Grateful Dead.) the drummer is Stewart Copeland.

I'm gonna go with either Cream (Clapton, Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker) or Praxis (Bootsy, Brain, Bernie Worrel, Bill Laswell, Buckethead)
