Best PC joystick for gaming

My favorite is the PS2 controller, which you can hook up to your pc with a Playstation to USB adaptor. I found it at frys for 10 bucks, but can't seem to find it anymore on their website.
First off 8800GT Rocks!!

Second, what is a decent joystick for general PC gaming, Guild Wars, Quake wars... XP OS.

TIA
Joystick? You must mean "dual-analog gamepad" for the PC, right?

When I think of Joystick on a PC, I picture a Flight Sim w/ something like this:

Anyways, the 360 Controller is pretty good. The last two games I installed (Outrun2006 & Tomb Raider) didn't need re-configuration.

Buuuuuuut...
Remember, some FPS's on consoles offer a slight auto-aim. You'll get absolutely no forgiveness from some PC games unless it's a 360 port like Lost Planet. I remember trying the 360 controller on Halo 1 PC and had a difficult time keeping my aim steady.

I also own the Logitech Cordless Rumblepad 2 w/vibration:

stay away from this one!!!!!

I would get a 360 controller for windows if you want a gamepad. But I wouldn't even think of using that for a multiplayer FPS for the PC, stick with the mouse/keyboard. You will get worked in a game like Quake Wars if you try to use a gamepad.

Serious? Mouse and keyboard are better for MP games rather than a game pad? And that's due to 'auto-aim' features of a gamepad?

So, any PS2 or X360 controller will work, with adapters and downloaded drivers, but you sacrifice the detailed control you get w/ a keyboard?

For Myth Wars, Runescape... a controller is fine, but Quakewars... not a good idea?

TIA

Xbox 360 controller is definetly the way to go if you cant use the keyboard and mouse. If you do end up using a 360 contoller you should download a progame called pinnacle game profiler. Its trialware (if you dont want to pay you know what to do) but makes the controller much more customization than the ones that come with the game. Its also make older games much easier to play with the 360 remote. Just dont try to use the controller with oblivion special software or not I cant seem to do thigs like cast magic or walk straight very well.

Yeap, sounds about right.

Remember, "auto-aim" aka "aim-assistance" is a feature integrated in the majority of Console FPS games (ie Halo), but rarely coded into PC games because of the precision of a mouse. But now, with the advent of the Games for Windows program, a few of the latest games will have full support for the 360 controller. For example, Lost Planet & Tomb Raider Anniversery. But games like ID's Quake Wars & Valve's Half Life 2 may not have full support out of the box since traditionally they have been PC only titles. So for those games, some additional tweaking may be needed (ie Pinnacle Profiler)

Btw, to game with a mouse, you don't have to drop 80 bux on some fancy Logitech or Razer. Things I would reccomend to look for are three things: wired usb 2.0, optical or laser, at least 800dpi.
Here's what I bought a few years back for 20 bux:
http://www.sunbeamtech.com/PRODUCTS/peripherals/x_1300_mouse/x_1300_mouse.html

And as far as keyboards go, nothing fancy, basically anything with multi-media controls built in (ie Volume Control) and a number pad.
