Ok, well I am not getting much of a nibble on my game list
http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?p=3203382#post3203382

so I know I can take my games to either a best buy or a micro center (since microcenter now does trade ins)

Problem is both best buy and mircocenter are roughly 20 minutes away in opposite directions.

Without driving out to either location only to find out I could have gotten more at the other location, what do you guys recommend? EB isn't going to give me much for them.

suggestions?

I never knew BestBuy took trade ins now? And I always wanted to see how Microcenter is with trade in values, though I doubt its any better then other stores.

best buy has a limited amount of locations of stores that do trade ins.. I don't remember the store link that lists which ones.

Microcenter (the only one in northern va) started doing this a few months ago but everytime I go over there I get a lame ass excuse from the employees in the gaming department that the trade in system is down or the "guy" who does the trade in is not there today or left for the day....... lame I know.

Trading in is a rip off....doesn't matter where you go. They give you 30% of what they sell the game for, you're just plain getting ripped off.

My suggestion is amazon.com -- you'll get close to what stores charge for used games.

And you can opt to be paid in the form of Amazon credit, to use for new games.

How much does it cost to sell there? I've been thinking about it for the longest time but never got around to it. I heard that you can just list an item on there for free and you don't have to pay anything until and if your item sells which would be really nice for those games which have little interest.

I am not really interested in getting credit to buy new games.. I need credit so I can buy parts towards my new computer. Just out of curiosity how much do you think I would get from both stores based on my list and condition?

Microcenter earlier this week had the price for the Q6600 chip 30-40 dollars less then Newegg which was a shock :O but today newegg dropped it now it's 10 dollars more then microcenter's price.

Their fee schedule is here.

I've noticed that my items sell for more money on Amazon than on eBay, and at a faster rate.

Went to Microcenter...
When I went in the guy told his co-worker that he is going to ring up the "til"(?) and be right back..his co-worker didn't know what the fuck he was talking about...probibly he went off to tell security to watch me...pff whatever.
He comes back 15 mins later and then has trouble finding printable stickers and tells me to come back 30 mins later or tomorrow...and I tell him I have to come back tomorrow just to get a price quote because your sticker machine is broken!??! He then checks in my stuff and is totally silent about it for 10 minutes.
grand total quote for all the games on my list (minus Obiwan and Shenmu 2)

went to BB
Went to CS, the chick was telling me "but you haven't opened the games yet..." and then TRIES TO OPEN my games without my permission.. I stopped her just in time!

Now I knew I was asking for a slap in the face when i walked into EB.
To make a long story short, this nasty looking redhead guy had the nerve to think I was bringing in stolen goods because they were "sealed"...

Most of my games weren't coming up in the system so I ended up at 11.xx for my trades... fuck that.

Oh well I guess BB had the best offer... I guess I will keep them on cag for trading.

You need a pre approved account to sell video games and systems on Amazon. Or you can pay $40 a month to be approved.

I don't think that's the case. I've been able to sell games and DS Lites -- the only things that I haven't been approved to sell have been Apple products (iPods, Macs, etc).

I don't know what the "til" is either, but it is legit (not just an excuse of some sorts). My Microcenter also has to open the til or ring up the til or whatever every time I trade games in there. The guy who has to do it is always super-annoyed that it wasn't done when the store opened, and always has to walk across the store to get it done. I have traded in multiple (like 10) copies of the same game (still sealed) after the til was opened and they didn't so much as bat an eye.

MC is an enormous ripoff when it comes to trading in games. I don't know why anybody trades in there (with the exception of the precious few games that slip through with flippable values). They also keep their trade prices up-to-date faster than any other trade-in locations I have traded at. You hardly have time to get your hands on a game to flip before they have identified the inflated buyback price and lowered it.

Most stores assume if you have the game still sealed there is a fair chance it is stolen. As a corporation it puts them at high risk financially, legally, and from a publicity standpoint to be buying games that are potentially stolen. You may say "well I could just as easily have stolen used games", which is true - but, much more difficult to prove AND sadly it is just far too common for people to steal stacks of games from large retailers and try to flip them. It's not EB's fault that a bunch of punk thieves are ruining it for everyone else - so be sure to direct your anger towards the right place. Trust me, even the dumbest of corporations has no incentive to single YOU or ME out of the crowd and say "we don't want your sealed games because we don't like your face".

The girl who tried to open your games - that was just dumb. :)
