I'm looking to expand my fighting game collection and was wondering what you guys think are the best ones.

I currently have:
Capcom Vs. SNK 2
Soul Calibur II and III
Super DBZ
Mortal Kombat 4

Tekken 5 (this has Tekken 1, 2 and 3 as a bonus feature so totally worth buying)
Tekken 4 (was unbalanced but should be cheap now.
Soul Calibur 2 (3 was unbalanced and had some bugs with corrupting the save for quest mode)
King of Fighters 2000/2001
King of Fighters 2002/2003
Guilty Gear X
Guilty Gear X 2
Marvel vs. Capcom 2 if you can actually find it but it's really rare and expensive
Street Fighter Anniversary Collection which has SF3 and Super turbo
Capcom Collections Vol 1 and 2 for the Street Fighter games
Arcana Heart just came out and it's pretty good if you like 2D fighters

And snk re-released a lot of their old games like World Heroes and other stuff in collections so you should check those out too.

Dont forget Tekken Tag has the addictive "Tekken Bowling"...

One to mention for the PS2 also would be Bloody Roar 4, the series in general does not get enough love.

All the bloody roars even the ones for PS1. I loved those games.

Would you be willing to get into importing?

Anyway, there aren't any worthwhile PS1 fighters, but on the PS2, the best domestic releases are: King of Fighters XI, Street Fighter Anniversary Collection, Street Fighter Alpha Anthology, Guilty Gear XX Accent Core, Neo Geo Battle Coliseum, and Fatal Fury Battle Archives 2 (though the US release is censored). I'd recommend Tekken 5, but it's basically replaced by the PS3 version.

Mark of the Wolves (Import)
SF anthology
Guilty Gear XX Accent Core
KOF XI
Marvel vs. SNK2
Arcana Heart (Current favorite)

That is how I roll.

Would you be willing to trade for Marvel vs SNK2, that game must be ultra rare

Guilty Gear, SF III Third Strike (from the Anniversary Collection), Soul Caliber II, and a little Marvel vs Capcom is what I recommend / play the most.

Samurai Spirits Tenkaichi is the only other game that hasn't been mentioned. It's import only though.

I second Virtua Fighter 4: Evo though. It's the best fighting game for the PS2 in my humble opinion.

Dead or Alive 2: Hardcore

Yeah, but this thread is about the best...... I can't even put DOA2 on my top 10 list.

Wow, no love for Mortal Kombat: Deception? Best MK game in the series since it went into 3-D. Other one i would recommend is MKII that is in the midway arcade treasures 2.

Soul Calibur 3

Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3 ( Best DBZ Fighter Ever, still better than the Burst Limit Demo)

Marvel Vs Capcom

KOF: XI (first kof that made me like the series :), before i used to hate it)

For some reason Mortal Kombat and Def Jam fight for ny are the only two fighting games I actually keep playing. The street fighters and most of the 2d ones just seem to move too fast for me.
I really liked the tutorial in VF4 though, and the tutorial/konquest mode in mortal kombat.

What's wrong with DOA2? It's an excellent game - the graphics are top-notch, the system is fun, and it's got a fun cast. It's certainly better than some of the other titles suggested in this thread.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the game. It's just that I can't recommend it over Virtua Fighter 4: Evo, Soul Calibur II, Tekken 5, or Tekken Tag. OP asked for the best games. Does it do anything specifically wrong? No. Does it do anything better than the other games? No. DOA has always been about the graphics. Sometimes it seems like the developers spent more time getting the breast physics just right and they neglected everything else. It's a fun game to play with friends but it won't get many votes for being the best fighting game for the PS2.

Is Markman on vacation? There's been a couple mentions of Tekken and no appearance yet.

Ah. To each their own, I suppose. I prefer DOA to all four of the games you listed. I find the controls tighter and I really enjoy the reversal system. Personally, I keep the age low in the option menu to keep the breast physics out of the game.

There's a really fun but kind of goofy PS1 fighting game called Slap Happy Rhythm Busters. It's not the best but it's pretty fun.

My favorites are Rival Schools (someone mentioned RS2 and I thought that was Dreamcast only), SF Anniversary Collection (for 3rd Strike), SF Alpha 2 and Alpha 3, Capcom vs. SNK 2, and Tekken Tag.

I prefer VF4 & EVO, Soul Calibur II, Tekken Tag/4/5 and heck even SC III over DOA2U. I mean it's a fine fighting game and all, but the game system is a bit lacking for me. It's a bit too easy and unrewarding to me as a player/someone who wants to learn a fighting gameplay system.

I'm here, I'm here! :applause:

I almost forgotten - How about Fight Night Round 3? Probably one of the few boxing game I got into.

Now that I think bout it, any of the game played at Evolution is pretty much what I play for fighters actually.
