Best Rock Vocalist of All-Time?
Someone else knows of the greatness that was Jeff Buckley.

While I do have to give Freddie Mercury the vote for best frontman of all time, Jeff Buckley has by far the greatest voice of anyone posted in this thread. Grace is the greatest album of all time.

You automatically kick ass in my book Tybee for being a fellow fan of Jeff Buckley.
Right back atcha, brother (and the others who showed out for Jeff). Glad to finally get some support.

Have you heard My Brightest Diamond yet? It's actually the performing name of Shara Worden, who is better known as one of the Illinoisemakers, Sufjan Stevens support band. Her voice is the closest thing to Jeff Buckley I've yet heard. She rocks, too.

She performed last weekend in Austin after ACL with Sufjan. She was his opening act.

However we got there very late and only saw Sufjan.

I didn't really care for him. My little sister is in love with the guy and forced me to the show (but I decided a free show is a free show). He's far too much production for me to really enjoy him. He has some good songs here and there, but his schtick just wore thin with me really quick.

If by "vocalist" you mean singer/songwriter/musician, then Kurt Cobain. His lyrics and his music go along perfect with his voice.

Just off vocals alone? Yeah, Freddie Mercury.

I love Sufjan! I wish I could have gone to that show. My b/f's brother went to that music festival, but didnt see Sufjan.

Yea, because you are a girl.

I had a hell of a time after the show trying to explain to my sister and her roomie why I didn't really care for him. They looked at me as if I had just tried to explain why I was masturbating in the children's museum.

Which, of course, didn't make the conversation about me masturbating in the children's museum go any better.

:\

In all seriousness, his schtick bothers the hell out of me. It's kind of like how you imagine the guy that played Big Bird on Sesame Street was probably a fat drunkard who got high every night. I'm willing to bet he's not this sweet little guy he plays himself out to be.

I knew this was going to come up eventually.

I guess I meant who has the best set of pipes. Cobain was awesome and worked very well with the talent he was given but he's not even close IMO to someone like Chris Cornell in terms of belting out a song. Cobain is the better songwriter though for sure...

Actually, we just saw them last night at the Fox here in Atlanta. I'm firmly in your sister's camp. The man is brilliant. But everyone's entitled to their opinion.

Oh and I was totally going to send you some GGCs, but not now because I'm just that petty. ;)

Also, you are no longer invited to my birthday party...which is only partly due to your habit of masturbating around children.

Yeah, he's losing he is Indie appeal.

Yeah, I'd have to go with Freddie Mercury then.

You fail at the internet.
I know I am going to get shit for this, but Steve Perry or Rob Halford. Even Bruce Dickenson.
Steve Perry rules!!!

Alice In Chains is the aboluste best Seattle Band ever. Layne Staleys voice gets my vote for the greatest not just rock vocalist but just plain vocalist of all time. And on a side note his story is just so much sadder than kurts. Its a crime AIC never got the attention it deserved.

Robert Plant.

No one else deserves the title of "Best Rock Vocalist of All-Time" but him.

Honorable mentions: Freddie Mercury, Axl Rose (I know he's hated now, but he was great for his time) Bon Scott, Jimi Hendrix (I think he had a geat voice), and yes, Chris Cornell.

I gotta go with Mercury buit Roger Daltry is a very close second. Klaus Meine (Scorpions) is another of the greatest IMO, the guy just never got the respect he deserved in the US for his talent. also very underated David Coverdale (Whitesnake) and Justin Hayward (moody blues)
