best route for installing an Ipod into my Jeep??

Chrisr291

CAGiversary!
I've got a 2005 Jeep Liberty Renegade and i'm tired of CD's......

What is the best, cheapest way for me to get an aux switch in my car? I've taken it to best buy and well... I would have to buy a new deck and installation is going to run me 100+ alone.

I'm not a big fan of aftermarket Stereos because i've had several stolen.

Not that an Ipod wouldn't cause alarm but I could hide that in a glove box.

Help?

FM Modulator would be your best bet. It transmits your ipod audio over the radio waves and you just tune into the station you set it for. But an aux capable deck is the best... I never buy a cd deck without it....

You can wire direct into your stereo

here is a pretty good overview of your options

the cheapest to best quality ratio is th eold tape adaptors like we used to have pre-in-dash cd players (that would be thw royal "we") Mabe not elegant but if ou have a tape deck it will set you bacl only about $10.

Thanks for the responses!

I'm going to try some of your suggestions tomorrow.

My buddy has the Itrip and it works ok but in Austin, we have a bunch of radio stations so the sound is kinda weak. I wish those would work because I could get one cheap and be done with it.

If there's any way to direct connect your Ipod over an FM transmitter...DO IT!! It will sound 1 million times better. I just recently picked up a new Pioneer with Ipod cable after only having an FM transmitter previously. HUGE difference.

I actually have one of the monster ipod fm transmitters that hooks up through a power point and charges your ipod while its on.

An FM Modulator is the answer.

What it does, it installs between your antenna and your stock headunit. It's powered, so when it's off, your radio functions like normal. When on, it takes the signal from your Ipod.

Something along the lines of this: http://www.amazon.com/Pyle-PLMD2-PYLE-DVD-Modulator/dp/B00009V3U9/ref=tag_dpp_lp_edpp_ttl_ex

(It says DVD, but in reality anything with either a stereo phono hookup or a 3.5 mini jack will work as inputs)

If you're interested in going this route, hit me up for a PM. I've not done it myself, but I'm fairly familiar with Jeeps and vehicle wiring in general.
