Best SNES games

Most of the good ones are going to be expensive, but here's a starting list:

Super Metroid
Super Mario World
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
Super Mario All-Stars
Super Mario Kart
Donkey Kong Country
Secret of Mana
Earthbound
Final Fantasy 4
Final Fantasy 6
Chrono Trigger
Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrals
Zelda: Link to the Past
Legend of the Mystical Ninja
Super Punch-Out!
Star Fox

Of these, my favorites are Super Metroid, Earthbound, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 6, and Super Mario World.

hit the nail on the head.

Second tier:

Castlevania IV
Contra 3: The Alien Wars
Super Battletoads
Killer Instinct
Super Street Fighter 2
Megaman X 1/2/3
Uniracers
EVO: Search for Eden
Robotrek
Zombies Ate My Neighbors
Earthworm Jim
Kirby Superstar
Kirby Dream Course
Mario Paint
Actraiser
F-Zero
Pilotwings

I don't know a thing about sports games but there's probably some worth mentioning.

Yep, those are basically the best games the SNES has, though I'm sure there are a lot more gems than what listed thus far... Sim City and Demon's Crest are a couple great examples. ;)

Unless I'm too tired to notice but, where's Harvest Moon? That is probably my most favorite HM to come out for the whole series beside, Rune Factory and Back to Nature. ;)

Thanks for all the replies thus far-I guess I should have added I was looking for some hidden gems also.

the only games strell was missing in my opinion was, Soulblazer (done by enix back in the day) and Secret of Mana (done by square).

Past that, grab what strell was sayin and you will find gaming happiness forever!

Oh, Super Mario RPG and Earthboud are much cheaper on the Wii!

Here is a list of hidden gems (and some not so hidden ones) that haven't been mentioned:

Claymates - Platformer
Flashback: The Quest for Identity - Action-Adventure
Marvel Super Heroes: War of the Gems - Beat-Em-Up
Metal Warriors - Action
Secret of Evermore - Action-RPG (One of my favorite SNES games)
Shadowrun - RPG (This one is somewhat hard to classify)
Troddlers - Puzzle-Platformer (Another one of my favorite SNES games)
Wild Guns - Shoot-Em-Up (This one is pretty unique, too)
X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse - Beat-Em-Up

Several of the best SNES games either have or will soon have ports/remakes on other systems, such as the DS, GCN, GBA, or Wii.
Oftentimes, they will have more content and/or a better price, so that's one thing to keep in mind if you own any of those systems.

Excellent recommendations from others as well. Can't believe I forgot Soulblazer and Shadowrun - those two are great.

Soulblazer's sequel - Illusion of Gaia - is another great game. Terranigma fits in there somewhere too - same basic style of game, but it might be hard to track down since it was a UK game.

Oh! Out of this World is another excellent game. Might be extremely frustrating though.

that game used to piss me off to no end.

for a marketing tie in, the first Spot game was really good

some unmentioned ones which are fun are:

battletoads & double dragon - beat em up (2 player)
phalanx - sidescroller shooter
gradius 3 - sidescroller shooter
super ninja boy - (not sure to explain... action rpg? it's 2 player)
