Best way to clean PS3 casing?

Bought a 60GB and it has little markings on it, not scratches. I used a microfiber cloth and nothing...then rubbed some alcohol over the markings and nothing. It seems like there should be a way to get them off (whatever they are?) Any suggestions? It looks like they were put on there by the bubble wrap or something...

I used my t-shirt when someone accidentally dropped some lotion on the top. Absolutely no scratches and the lotion came right off. I was upset it happened but I didn't care once it came off.

I don't know how to properly clean it though. Some sites say to use a swiffer dusters, but I don't know how to get those markings. Mine has none that I can tell.

Can you post a pic of it?

They might be scratches that might not come out, you can use car wax to take out minor scratches, since the ps3's cover is glossy. A bit Off topic but, xsouthparkx what the hell is going on in your avatar? And what the fuck is it from!?

See the little tiny "smudges" there? They dont rub off...
OK, Ill try some polish then. Thanks
Be sure to try it in a hard to see area initially, to see what effect it will have .

Just pick up a skin from decalgirl.com, after seeing how prone the PS3 is to scratches I had to get one. Sony should have stuck with the textured casing as previous Playstation systems and other gaming systems. Don't they realize kids and teenagers handle these things.

I was using something similar(and I though just as soft) as Swiffer sheets: DRYER SHEETS. Once you run them through the dryer once, they're very soft typically.

However, it left a bunch of little scratches on the PS3's case, so I switched to a microfiber cloth(Dollar Tree sells them 2/$1, so you can have a spare).

No problems since then.

But I am wondering why the hell they switched to the shiny, shiny black glossy case.

This is why I'm wishing Sony will release a matte finish PS3 once the price on it drops a bunch. Although, they did release a shitload of different colored PS2's in Japan, which we never saw in the States(aside from that horrid silver number).

I want a CLEAR CASE.

Steel wool seems like the best alternative. Trying to keep it clean and scratch free has been futile, and I've grown to accept that its going to look terrible no matter how many times I clean it. D:

I think the best idea is time. Just like everything else, in a few months you wont care how scratched it is because it wont be as new. Just like new cell phones and cars, you think the world of them for the first few months then completely forget about them after. Although I just do scratch prevention and put the cloth map from my zelda strat guide on top of mine, but thats off topic.

Dirt. I just rub dirt on it. Doesn't have to be nice dirt, just whatever is in your back yard. It's gonna look dusty and dirty anyways, so I might as well keep it nice.

I used to put the sheet the PS2 came wrapped in on top of my PS2 when I got it, but that was only to try and prevent dust from getting on it. I didn't even try it with the PS3, although I really should have.

Oh well, hopefully once Sony checks my PS3 when I send it to them they'll replace the case or something.

Sony did. It's the MGS4 LE Gunmetal PS3. It's matte.

It was also $500 or so, from what I remember. They're about due for a price drop I hope, since $400 for the lowest model is pushing it still on price.

I had trouble enough handing over the $400 for my 40 gb PS3, since my opinion after buying a year from launch system last gen was that $300 was too much, $250 was still pushing it and $200 was my 'perfect' price.

But I wanted GTA IV, though by the time I got it the story was already spoiled, so I could've waited and just bought a PS3 this year. Plus, I would've known about the shitty Xbox-esque controls for GTAIV and probably only bought a used copy from Blockbuster for $15.

That game, coupled with God Of War 3, are the only two reasons I really bought a PS3. Otherwise I'd still have my nearly 100 Xbox and PS2 titles and have ALOT of different games to choose from instead of a handful.

Maybe the PS4 will have a matte finish. Who knows? I also dont really care for the font. The font on the PS2 was cool, with the violet to cyan letters. But this is turning into a bit of a PS3 bash...

We love you PS3, just not our fingerprints being all over your pretty surface

Actually, I do like the PS3, but the price SUCKED. If not for the fairly high failure rate at the time, I was actually all set to grab a 360 instead.

But I couldn't bring myself to pay that much for something and have it fail.

I believe the Advent Children edition (with the Cloud insignia) is matte finish as well. However, it's black and not gun metal.

Same here, but mine did fail(laser). I fixed it, but I am always paranoid about it failing again. I guess that fact that I got it brand new for less than $250, made the failure not as painful as if I had paid full price.

The BEST way to clean a PS2, and/or PS3 is to use a vacuum cleaner. You need to use a vacuum cleaner with one of the car cleaning attachments (the slim attachments, or just the hose w/o any attachment, and basically use it to such the air from the vents that are all around the PS3 (or PS2) these are the areas that most would use a canned air to clean. Instead of pushing the dust inward w/ the canned air you can use the vacuum to take the dust away from the unit. That's the way I clean the PS3, and I wipe it down w/ an old t-shirt or something.
