Best way to remove cigarette stench from modern games in DVD cases

I bought an eBay lot of some modern games and they reek like the Marlboro Man's 'stache.

Anyone got any tips?

I usually list my shit as coming from a smoke free home and I've gotten an email or two asking why I mention it or why it would matter.

This thread is why. Smokers are just oblivious to the stench that gets in everything.

Anyway, get some new cases and toss the old ones.

I'd like to avoid having to buy new cases, if at all possible.

I was thinking about sticking the games in a ziplock of baking soda and maybe a dryer sheet, like pitfall mentioned... But I have a feeling that won't cut it.

These things reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek.

I wish I could just soak them in hot soapy water.

have you tried frebreeze spray on them. you could try putting them thru the dishwasher use like china cycle top rack only.

The smell is likely trapped in the paper and using any type of spray or liquid could stain or warp the insert or manual.

I would first try to air it out: pull everything out manual, disc, case and insert and maybe have fan blow on it. If that doesn't work, chances are that there's some microscopic tar build-up and it will require bit more work to remove.

You can literally wash discs with regular soap (do not use abrasive soap! Like Goop, or the soap with the little bits of "gel" or beads in it) and cold water and towel dry. You could do the same for the cases but cases are very hard to dry as water often remains in the crevasses, corners or within the plastic window.

Old thread smell, but I've got a new idea for you if it still stinks:

Place everything stinky in one isolated area and burn some strong incense under it. Fight smoke with smoke. Afterwards it might smell like a hippie's armpit for a while, but it might do the trick and will definitely take most of the punch out of stench.

Cigarette smoke has a tendency to permeate rubbers and plastics. Your best bet probably would be to get new keep cases. It's annoying, but that smell is extremely difficult to get out of plastics. I bought an Atari Jaguar from a smoking home, and it took years for the smell to dissipate. It did eventually go away, but I'm not kidding, like five years. And this was after I thoroughly scrubbed it down with disinfectant. (lemon-scented disinfectant)

Video games and DVDs are especially susceptible to these odors. Don't store your game or movie collections anywhere with strong scents.
