Beta Testers Wanted for GameTap

I work for iBeta Quality Assurance, a game testing company. We are recruiting for a beta test team. This team will get to take an early look at GameTap and provide us with valuable feedback. If you haven’t heard of this exciting new service, it’s a first-of-its-kind broadband entertainment network that offers games-on-demand plus original programming via a broadband connected PC. The service offers a wide range of games from retro-arcade to PC to popular console. GameTap will launch with hundreds of games and then roll out additional titles and programming on an ongoing basis. Programming is created expressly for GameTap -- coming attractions and behind-the-scenes peeks that introduce the games and provide background information.

Candidates for the beta test must:

1. Be 18 years of age or older
2. Live in the United States
3. Have an IBM compatible PC with Pentium 4 or AMD Athlon 1.2GHz or better processor
4. Have 256 MB RAM, or better
5. Have an ATI Radeon VE 7000 with at least 32MB ram video card, nVidia GeForce2 with at least 32MB ram, or better (On-board video cards will not be accepted)
6. 5GB of free hard drive space
7. Have a broadband connection

If you are interested in joining our team please visit https://betatest.ibeta.com/tgn/
and complete the submission form. If you fit the team's needs, we will be in contact with you shortly in order to verify information and set you up on the team.

Thank you for your interest!

FYI, he asked my permission before posting.

Also, I had a chance to test GameTap out at E3 (it was shown behind closed doors) and it is slick as hell. I am definitely signing up for the beta, and will likely subscribe to the service, depending on price.
linky no worky
You are a good beta tester!
I'll contact them and have them fix it.
Wow, IE ActiveX security is tighter than a virgin asshole now.
That signup page was a pain in the ass.
Sorry about that. This is actually the second round of testing. In our first round, we had everyone export their dxdiag info manually. It ended up being too much for some people to handle, so the current site is our way of making things easier... kinda.
Sounds like the Phantom has a competitor now, eh?
Yeah, if I had to bet which one will actually launch/survive I would put my money behind GameTap.

EDIT: For those of you who are signing up, I recommend using IE during the application process.

exp. considering Turner is making this product

and I am going to sign up right now
I signed up last night...Did anyone hear anything yet?
We'll be sending out acceptance e-mails in the next week or so, which will be followed closely by download information. Thanks to everyone who has signed up so far.

Signed up. The service sounds awesome, especially how much you talked it up at E3 Cheapy :). Hopefully I can get in to the beta and check this bad boy out!

I'm wondering about the details of the service. I assume all the content available has been licensed. It looks like some sort of emulation was employed.

I just signed up for the beta. Too bad I couldn't post my resume. I'm sure I'd be accepted based on the 5 years of cumulative testing experience I have working for Sega and Sony. :) Ah, the good ole days...

Just filed my application using my laptop...dunno if I should have used my more capable desktop... Something tells me they'll be seeking a big group of console users (versus PC gamers) to make sure everything's stupid-simple for the masses.

For those with beefier machines, you can always fill in the information manually with the information from your gaming box instead of your pathetically spec'd web machine.

I was impressed with the lack of BS in this interview at Gamespot concerning GameTap. It seems like they know what they're talking about and how to actually make the service and business model work together.
I wonder do we get paid to beta test this?
Yes, but the money is invisible.

This is great! I am no low-life loser pirate, so I was hoping there was a cheaper way for me to buy my official copy of arcade games, besides Neo-Geo. And here we go. I just wonder how long and how much you can keep the stuff on your PC.

Can someone please explain how it works?

For example, do I need to download various emulators (Atari 2600, Commodore=64, NES, et cetera)?

Are the games stored on the hard drive?

In this month's Game Informer, they have a short article on Gametap. I'm just going off memory here, but when I get home, I'll make sure everything is accurate.

It says they want to have about 1,500 games available by the end of this year.

Pricing will be either $5 or $10 a month.

There will be no current or future PC games available for Gametap.

Gametap will launch with about 300 games available. A lot of those games seem to be classic games.

You will not own the games, but can play them as much as you want as long as you have the service.

Gametap is owned by Turner.

Also, I really don't see why everyone made fun of the Phantom when it said it was going to do the same thing but on a tv.

Because it was a pitiful excuse of a console developed by a man who was known for embezzling company investments?

People were criticizing the Phantom before they knew any concrete info about the console.

Tell me, how is the Phantom a "pitiful excuse of a console"?

Yes, the price is way too much, and it seems like it will never launch, but my point is the Phantom Game Service and Gametap are extremely similar.

I hear a lot of people here bash the Phantom, but now all we're hearing is how wonderful Gametap is going to be. Why?

Because GameTap was actually able to license the games...I don't believe Phantom ever got to that point. Also, I think most people have little doubt that GameTap will actually launch.

Also, Game Informer got it a bit wrong...
*Price will be $10-$15 (if its $10, they got it right ;) )
*There will be (semi) current PC games like Beyond Good & Evil & Splinter Cell. I guess that just depends on your definition of "current".

Yea... I filled it all in manually the first time. The auto fill STILL doesn't work in IE or FireFox.

To answer a few questions:

The service will be all-inclusive, so you don't have to download multiple emulators. I wish I could reveal which systems it includes, but you'll have to sign-up for the beta and be accepted to find out. And CheapyD was correct that subscribers will have access to the games as long as they subscribe.

A couple of quick questions....

1) Is there any talk of Mac support at some point?
2) Is there any talk of these classics being playable online? For instance, playing Joust with my buddy across the country I think would sell a TON of subscriptions (including one to me!)

Has anyone gotten an acceptance into the beta program yet?
I got the email that they received my application but nothing else.

I got an email from them looking for more information from me, so they have not sent out acceptances yet.

I knew I shouldn't have checked off that I worked in the "Internet/New Media" field....now i'm gonna get nuked, I bet.

EDIT: Or not...I just got in.:bouncy:
