BEWARE...the XBOX Dashboard D/L fried my 360

is it an auto update.... as in as soon as you sign on live it will download ? .. otherwise where do you find this update ?

I just got done playing perfect dark on live... and now am downloading the quake demo..... but isn't it supposed to allow you to do other things while letteing you download in the backgroudn ? Since I soon as I leave the quake download....it cancels.
Looks like you got super secret 360 virus.
Oooh, is that a new achievement?

But seriously, my replacement 360 is going in for replacing. It'd be funny if it weren't true. Has nothing to do with the dashboard update though.

Full Auto STILL doesn't work for me.

By the way, I went to download the Full Auto demo again to try it one more time.. and.. I couldn't continue to do other things like I read. Did I do something wrong? I hit the 360 button, I hit the B button.. both cancelled the download..

Right now you can't do anything else while downloading something from Xbox Live. Microsoft has said that they may make that feature available in a future dashboard update but I haven't heard anything about it recently.

Then I'm going to kick Brevity's ass.. on Live, of course.

That really sucks man. I wonder if the patch really did mess it up, or if your 360 just decided to kick the bucket. I just downloaded the update and played a bit of Geometry Wars and everything seems fine.

Has anybody noticed that if you select a XBLA game on the dashboard (the part that says play game, achievements, delete game) that it'll display gamertag and pics of your friends and they're highest scores for that game? I don't know if that's a new feature or not but I just now noticed it if not... also the guide button seems faster.
Thanks....I appear to be the only one who got screwed. Amazing. Oh well....hopefully I goet my shipping box quickly.
sorry to hear about your problem.. but I think I will log in today and d/l the update.... (crossing fingers)

it sounds like your broadband connection crapped out during the download. thats what probably hosed your 360. it didnt get the full update.

'
I may call back and bitch more, we'll see. It's just frustrating, especially since they want you to d/l this, then it just craps out. I appear to be an isolated case.

I wish they would hook me up, but I already have all th 1st party games.

As for Mooky, it's pretty sad that you look through all the posts to find other people's posts.
Whats even more sad is the shit you gave everyone for even mentioning that CAG's Xbox 360s were dying.

I gave shit to people that DIDN'T own them. It sucks when people's consoles die...I realize that. I'm just more pissed since it directly related to this download.

That is terrible double, I would be going ape$%!* right now if my 360 took a dump. Hopefully they are very speedy in correcting the problem for you, good luck bro.

I downloaded the update when I got home yesterday evening and played a few hours with no problems.

No problems with the download for me last night. I got a little nervous when it automatically rebooted my system but all is good.

no problems here. and YES you have to download if you want to log onto Live. if you chose no it will log you off LIVE.

the download was quick for me. took about 3 mins on my DSL line. two times the download bar went across to full then the system shut down and restarted in about 5 seconds. all is fine

im good after the download, and ive been leavin this thing on for 12 hours a day. so far so good(i bought a 3 year warranty for 39.99 from sam's just to be safe though)
hope it doesnt have anything to do with FFXI
i have FFXI installed.....update went fine.....most likely an isolated case with a bad cable / dsl connection that cut out....or just a bad system....

3 min??? Mine was done in like 10 seconds or less. I hope it got everything and doesn't screw my system up.

mine took like 30 seconds with torrents downloading on my computer
My XBOX was working fine, I d/l the update and now I have 3 flashing RED lights. Calling them now.
Ah fuck, this is happening to my cos's 360.

Shh. No one tell him :whistle2:$

yea, mine was done in about 30 secs on my college's gaming network connection, which isnt that fast, so i can imagine if i was at home it would have only take about 10 secs.....

I didn't read this thread before I downloaded the update. Works fine. Played FFXI for like 6 hours without a hitch.

OK so it was more like 60 seconds total with reboot ... what I was implying was it was quick... and it was two files it look like it downloaded. but the person who had problems said he only got about half way thru the first download then it shut down. so it looks like he only got half the first file :(

my DSL is the 3 MB download 756k up account...

Probably not as quick as your Busa. 300 hp!?!??! You're nuts!

Hey DoubleDown, you aren't alone bro. Mine is done now too. Started crashing today and finally got the infamous 3 flashing red lights. On the phone to MS support now.

I've never heard of a patch causing a machine to completely stop working, but MS always seems to find a way to fuck things up.

Oh well. Off to repair.

Admit that you guys where shifting the machine around while the update DL'd, just like you did when it "scratched your disk"

Yep. I was actually juggling 3 of them while it downloaded.

So you're saying it worked fine for a day after the load and then crashed the next?

My car broke down after I got my last oil change, BEWARE.....OIL CHANGE messed up my car!
So you're saying it worked fine for a day after the load and then crashed the next?
No, as soon as I got the patch it started crashing. But I was able to play it after that for a couple hours. Then today when I tried playing it again it locks up completely and gives me the red lights.

One of the Xbox people I talked to said that one of the Live servers released a bad version of the patch and there are a few people calling in saying they never had a problem before the patch and now they have one.

I wish that was quoted somewhere....I bet we could get something out of them. Anyways, I mailed my XBOX back yeterday (next day air), so hopefully it shows up there today. I kept my HD because the instructions say in big bold letters DO NOT SEND ANY ACCESSORIES with the XBOX. The HD is an accessory to me.

Here's whats even worse : I have a PO Box as my permanent mailing address with Microsoft. So when I called and the girl setup the box to be mailed, she forgot to ask me my home address. It wasnt until after I got off the phone with her that I thought about it. So it took an HOUR on the phone again with MS reps to get the whole thing straightened out. And I need to call back again today just to confirm they are actually mailing a box to my home address.

And you're right, keep the hard drive. The girl who I originally talked to said that since its giving red lights without the hard drive in the hard drive wasn't the problem and it shouldn't be shipped with the 360.

Yeah, I wonder what would cause our Hardware to go bad...I really thought mine would be a HD problem, but alas, just the console. Hopefully they ship me out a new one tonight or tomorrow (if they ship Saturday).

Do they really even attempt to fix it, or do they just swap it out? I put a small dot on the back of mine to really check ;)

Or you could have written your serial number ;)

i thought this dl was just to prevent the homebrew community from using that kiosk file to run their code. is this a pretty widespread problem?
