I was watching the news just now, and they brought up a proposal by some senator ( I didn't catch his name ), who is trying to put forth a law that does the following:

- A minimum of 2-10 years in jail for you if you know of someone, anyone who uses drugs, and you don't report it.

Don't get me wrong, I detest the use of drugs, but this is too far. Probably speculation, but if this passes, it's going to denegreate into a MacCarthy-style witch-hunt involving "OMG, HE KNOWS SOMEONE WHO DOES DRUGS, THROW HIM AWAY." This isn't even being reported on FoxNews.com, and that was the channel I was watching where they discussed it.

Hardly a good idea. Jail the actual users, not the people around them, for christ's sakes. If they love pot so much, make them smoke dozens of pounds of the shit until they puke.

If this were to be enforced we could probably call the US a penal colony.

I don't suppose you could try to find the link? It sounds like a good read.

I wish I could. I mean, it wasn't even on a website- It was the topic of some guy filling in for that sodding old twat O'Reilly. There was a woman who blamed abundant sex, immorality and such on drugs, which I found incomprehensible. I'm not gonna get into my moral hollerings, but she's incorrect, IMO. I never used drugs, but I used to be quite less conservative than I was before, let's leave it at that. Drugs didn't cause it. I don't think it's the case for the majority of others, either.

But that stuff doesn't really count as news. Personally I think we should use illegal drugs as a form of population control.

Which is why I called it speculation. But we'll see.
So big brother hasn't struck then?
Aye, cut me a break. I was strapped for a title.

Umm the republican party is full of nutcases?

Or simply: Another crazy rant by an unimportant member of the house.

So if you said "No I didn't know that Johnny used drugs" and they said "Well we have a witness here who says you DID know" then wouldn't they have to arrest the witness as well? I mean, that person knows someone that uses drugs.

High-larious.

That's the gist of it.

You don't even know if this nonsense was proposed by a Republican.
You don't know if O'Reilly had it on to make fun of it like the clown he is or to support it, though.
It wasn't even O'Reilly. It was some other talking head who's normally on on saturdays. He didn't make fun of it, they didn't even have the guy who porposed it, but he did shout at people.

Found this snippet from a talk radio site (someone want to corroborate this part?), it says parents who do not inform within 24 hours will get a minimum 3 year jail term.

WEDNESDAY APRIL 20, 2005 1:20 AM (ET) Just checking email-- got a request that I mention HR 1528 online. This is James Sensenbrenner (Idiot-WI-- ok,actually he's Republican-WI but you'll see what I man when you hear this) bill to create mandatory minimum sentences for non-violent drug offenses. How bad is it? You can read about it here, but my favorite provision would mandate three year minimum sentences to parents who did not inform the police within 24 hours if they noticed any drug related activity near their kids. I am not making that up. Passing a joint will land you in prison longer than the average rapist. You might want to call your representative and let them know how you feel. And again, disclaimer-- I have never done, and have no plans to do, any illegal substance intake-- or most legal ones for that matter-- still haven't had my first drink (beyond a sip of champagne upon my engagement, which I found distasteful-- the champagne, not the engagement), or cup of coffee. However the lunacy of our drug war has got to end. And increasing penalties such as those in the "Defending America's Most Vulnerable: Safe Access to Drug Treatment and Child Protection Act of 2005" is one of the most offensive pieces of leglislation to ever threaten our bill of rights. Notice, it's always "for the children". I'm gonna be sick now.
Unbelievable. This guy is an insult to my party.
I believe this news.

I propose we take the man who proposed this out back and give him a whipping followed by a town square hanging.

Tip concurs.

If this law is retroactive, will we have to lock up Dubya's parents for his cocaine 70's?

Are Rush "Oxycontin" Limbaugh's parents still alive?...or did they die of shame a long time ago?

If we did that for every idiot in the government, the senate, congress, supreme court, and White House would be pretty lonely places.

Actually, come to think of it, that wouldn't be a bad idea, sort of like flushing the toilet after a huge dump.
If this law is retroactive
Article 1, Section 9, Paragraph 3 of the United States Constitution:

No Bill of Attainder or ex post facto Law shall be passed.

You really need to find your sense of humor.

Before you get a chubby thinking about them leaving anytime soon, remember that this is pot-only.
